Using "leaks" for advertising

Along with the traditional advertisements, why don't videogame companies purposely leak out info that appears to come from a single, unofficial source than the company itself? Especially for games like halo or destiny? Any leaks that have come out have spread like wildfire, so that's proof it would work decently to draw people in Also, if they can't live up to the promises that were "leaked", there's no pressure (both legal and from the fans) since they themselves never released anything official Sure, they could include some info in their official trailers and whatnot, but for the more juicy stuff, like "this is not a skybox, it's all playable space", they could simply "leak" it, so they won't get into trouble if they cant live up to it. Am i missing something?
