Dear Bungie: A suggestion for evolving weapons and gear
Based on the information found in the "Evolving Weapons" portion of the linked page, I would like to suggest that Bungie consider implementing an evolution mechanism for all gear and weapons found in the game, not limiting it to a few specific items. Build in whatever limitations you feel are appropriate (for example, nothing reaches Exotic or only Rares can be upgraded or something), but allow players to improve the quality of the stuff they love.
The idea is that players can find a piece of gear or weapon that they really like the look of, and they don't have to discard it for whatever comes along that happens to have better quality and/or stats. For example, I love the Surrender A auto rifle. Everything about that gun is great, in my opinion. However, it's a Rare quality weapon, and so I had to set it aside for a Legendary. If I could upgrade it to Legendary, I'd probably still be using it today, even over Suros Regime. I imagine I'm not the only person to really like the look and function of a certain piece of gear who had to put it away in favor of something with better stats, but less overall attachment to the player.
If not an evolution system for all weapons, please consider some form of transmogrification that would allow us to use the appearance of other gear and weapons on the stuff we're actually using.

Bump! Seriously, I juat picked up the Argus Deimatic helmet for my hunter, but since it's a blue I already know that, no matter how cool it looks, it will ultimately be useless. There would be a lot more variation with just a simple transmogrification and I think it would bring a much more unique aesthetic to the game for every guardian.

3 RepliesI was going to post something like this just now. I was playing Halo: Reach, and being reminded how much I LOVED the armour customization system in Reach. Perhaps Bungie could implement an armourer. You decrypt engrams, which gives you access to different armour and armour specs from the armourer. The only thing that you can't change is exotic armour.
