How did 343 mess this up so badly?

Downloaded the update; still a broken pile of shit. I feel as if this launch would have gone more smoothly if they focused on one game and did it well. Even if matchmaking was working how it should be, the game feels. . . cheap. There is no flow between the games themselves and the "Master Menu" - it's slower than the original UI's were originally, looks horrendous and is generally unintuitive for first time users; Halo games don't need such a complex UI that makes you go through every possible option before starting a single-player level or custom game. There are seemingly arbitrary wait times between matches in matchmaking - why do I have to wait 25 seconds before the next match starts? There is no seamless single-player progression - each level forces your eyes to bleed over that ugly excuse for a loading screen. There is no true 60 fps in Halo 2 Anniversary - the level of framerate drops and microstuttrer make me wish they kept it at a stable 30. Essentially everything 343 added to the older Halo games has made them worse. Avoid this garbage for the foreseeable future.

    • If Halo 5s launch is this bad, I will not be pre ordering 6. This is huge for me since Halo is one of my favourite series next too The Elder Scrolls, but if 343i thinks they can just leech off what Bungie did they have another thing coming.

Oh, just in case you were wondering if the update released today worked - nope. It made it worse. Matchmaking wait times are just as shit, and once you get into the game it's usually so horribly bugged out it'd be more enjoyable sticking a rod up your asshole. Just. . . jesus christ.

      • Well were you expecting Halo 2 Anniversary to STAY at 60fps but we all know halo games have already had framerate drops when there is too much stuff going on the screen so I expected framerate drops it's not going to kill you unless if it's below 30fps

          •
Downloaded the update; still a broken pile of shit.
Campaign, Forge, and Custom Games works fine. 343i never said this update would fix all the problems. In fact, before this update launched, 343i said that more updates are already on the way.
I feel as if this launch would have gone more smoothly if they focused on one game and did it well. Even if matchmaking was working how it should be, the game feels. . . cheap.
Which is not what they set out to accomplish. Their goal was to bring the Master Chief's story on to one console.
There is no flow between the games themselves and the "Master Menu" - it's slower than the original UI's were originally, looks horrendous and is generally unintuitive.
Well, between the games, of course not, none of them share the same engine. UI wise, I find it very intuitive, the menus for each game are nested in more general menus, for easy to tell what you're doing.
There are seemingly arbitrary wait times between matches in matchmaking - why do I have to wait 25 seconds before the next match starts?
I believe this is what 343i is working to fix. Keep in mind that this is the first time that Halo is running on XBL dedicated servers. Also, this isn't the first time a Halo game's MP has been broken at launch. Remember Halo 2? It's gameplay was so unbalanced and random, it was practically unplayable due to how frustrating it was.
There is no seamless single-player progression - each level forces your eyes to bleed over that ugly excuse for a loading screen.
Screenshot for the respective level, along with its description and information on what skulls you have activated along with scoring. Granted it may not have the most visual flair, but it is functionally the best of all the loading screens.
There is no true 60 fps in Halo 2 Anniversary - the level of framerate drops and microstuttrer make me wish they kept it at a stable 30.
Dunno what's up with your Xbox or copy of the game, but my H2A barely drops 60fps. Of course there are sections where it drops to 45fps, but other than that, it stays around 60 for me.
Essentially everything 343 added to the older Halo games has made them worse. Avoid this garbage for the foreseeable future.
Higher resolution, better frame rate, more collectables, and more achievements make the game bad? Damn dude, I think you've got the extreme nostalgia stick up your bum.

            • I feel your frustration but the campaign is going to hold me over until 343 gets it fixed. This is still a collection of awesome games. Legendary from start to finish!

                  • I have had no problems since the latest update. Yes 343i messed up last week but for me and all those people I have recently played on the Halo 2 Anniversary maps, it works.

                  • I disagree, I've seen a dramatic improvement in matchmaking times since the update. Finding a game isn't such a damn toss up anymore. The UI is convenient once you get the feel for where everything is, but I do think that pre-game lobbies could use some reformatting. Wait times are ok, I guess, I'll usually pull up my phone or go get a beverage in between games anyway. What they should be doing is giving you a loading screen you'll actually want to pay attention to. They've got a ton of lore packed into one game, with terminals and what not, just put bits of lore in the loading screens and randomize them. Most of the anniversary maps run fine, Zanzibar (or Stonetown) has very inconsistent framerate, mainly when panning your camera towards the center of the map. My primary complaints are with the customization. Halo 3 and Halo 4 no longer allow you to mix and match armor pieces. Plus, they gave everyone Bungie's flames! Dick move. Emblems are lackluster, I can't use my old emblem anymore because they don't have the background I need. Also, "transparent" is a color now apparently, so you'll have to color parts of your emblem transparent if you want them to not show up, instead of pressing X to toggle them.
