SUGGESTION. Leveling any Item with you.

I had the idea earlier of a way we can sort the customization issue where all the armor and guns look the same and possibly just for those who want to keep a gun of helm they like and keep it as they level. Being able to level an item that's say level 10 all the way up with you as you play would be very nice. This could be done by just keep gaining EXP for it and it keeps leveling up with better and better stats then maybe when it reaches 20 you must use mores of light (which don't have much of a use at the moment anyway) to keep it? Maybe this could be applied to class items as well so they could have a use as well? We could also possibly add a good use to the gunsmith with this method where if you level the gun from white to green and green to blue and blue to purple you can get ability slots in the gun/armor that you fill with ability mods you can get from the gunsmith with vanguard/crucible marks (or glimmer). Possibly when you hit some rank in the middle if it is heavy or special you can get an element token to give it that elemental hit. This could make the custom weapons/armor that some people desire a reality too. TL;DR: level weapons/armor with you so you could keep that style or type to customize as you will basically. Hard to summerize. What's everyone's opinions on this? I'd love to hear anyone's additions maybe even a comment from Deej?
please excuse any typos
• Take Fable for instance where your weapons have embument slots, which allow you to add tokens/buffs to the weapon. If this were put into effect I could see down the road haveing multiple elements on a weapon, But they would have to add more elements and you could pick the perks, or earn/xurn them. Possibly could get them from RNG or to make the class item more fun, certain perks only drop if you have the correct class item equipped/appropriate level, or could make the class item a total character element of damage but at a reduced rate like half of what the guns do, but stacked with all damage done by the character. say i have a sniper that is solar and a shot does 15% solar damage, if I'm wearing a class item that gives my character an arc damage, i would deal 15% solar damage from the weapon, 5% arc damage from the class item buff and 80% static damage, instead of just solar at 15% static at 85%. This would make class items alot more than just a visual POS. Thoughts?
