The Mother Warlock (Part 3)

Sorry for not updating for a while. I've been busy, and lost the muse to write in general. This part is sort of a filler, it's shorter than I had anticipated, and just something to post until the next major part is up. But it's still important. “Didn’t… Didn’t we just talk about them though?” Aero asked, his words conveying his confusion better than his expression, “I don’t really see the big deal if someone sent them-“ “It IS a big deal, Titan,” the Warlock’s Ghost snapped, “Revivals are usually isolated events; it’s very rare for there to be other Guardians in the area when they occur. Faerin’s site is far out of contested area, it’s basically completely Fallen controlled. It’s nearly impossible for someone to know where this is. And yet, here we are.” “You think it might be The Mother?” Eriica asked. “We certainly can’t rule out the possibility, but…” Faerin’s words trailed off as she glanced around the Tower Plaza, “We shouldn’t jump to conclusions.” “Fae’s right,” Aero agreed, “Keep an open mind about this. So, what’s the plan?” “Well, we’ll start with visiting my site first,” Eriica stated, “It’s closest and at least we’ll still be close by. Aero, yours will be next. Last will be Faerin’s.” Faerin nodded as the three Guardians made their way to the hangar. “Before we head out, I gotta see Holliday about something,” Aero said, breaking off and heading up the stairs to the shipwright. Faerin and Eriica approached the area where Amanda Holliday usually sat, talking to Guardians who passed by, and often selling and repairing various ships that came in. “…Yep, all loaded up,” she said, motioning to the trio’s ships down in the hangar, “Just be careful with them, yeah? Those tanks got some high quality stuff in them, and high quality means highly explosive, you hear?” “Wait, wait, wait,” Eriica rushed up to the two, “What did she do? What did you do to our ships, Holliday?” “Woah, calm down there, Hunter,” the shipwright replied calmly, waving a hand in the direction of their vehicles, “Your friend here just wanted a few upgrades for your journey, more food, ammo, guns, and higher quality fuel.” “I…Thank you, Amanda,” Eriica sighed, clearly irritated, “Aero, can… can I speak with you, for a moment?” “Yeah, sure, was just about done here anyways,” he smiled, walking over to Eriica, “What’s –“ “You god damn idiot!!” she screeched, smacking the back of his head, “What gear turned the wrong way to make you think that this was a good idea?” “Wh-I figured it would help!” Aero stuttered, taken aback by the blow, “I thought-“ “You thought what, that we would all want an upgrade?” she cut him off, giving him a forceful shove, “You thought we’d all appreciate it? And how much did it cost US, Aero? Hm? How much are you going to have to take from US to pay for this?” “Listen, I did what I thought was best for us,” Aero snapped, taking a defensive stance after he recomposed himself after the shove, “I thought we’d be out there for a while, that we might have needed all of it!” “Well what if we DON’T, Aero?” Eriica growled, “What if we don’t need it? What does it become? Dead weight and a higher risk of death, THAT’S what!” “What if we get stranded out there, Eriica?” Aero said, “We run out of supplies, we can’t fly back, and we have no comms with the Tower, what THEN?” Eriica went to retort, but in the brief silence, she heard a quiet whimper. Looking over at Faerin, she had moved away from the argument. “Faerin, I...” Eriica sighed, turning to the Titan, “Listen, let’s… let’s just go. We should be out there by now.” Faerin let out a sigh of relief as the three Guardians made their way to the lower hangar, and to their ships. As they took off to the sky, Holliday watched them leave. “That could have turned ugly…” she mused to herself, quickly turning to speak to another Guardian approaching her.
