Ok, about that Destiny Review
This may offend some special snowflakes, those little Desticles out there, and maybe if I'm lucky, will be seen by someone who can actually get shit done, any critiques that are actually constructive would be appreciated. So sit back and enjoy
So my experience with Destiny can be compared to going to a new restaurant. You go there with an open mind and instantly the waiter is shoving their newest incredible dish in my face. As they go on and on about all the tasty components and great texture and all round mouth watering greatness, I get more and more excited for this dish, then it finally comes out of the kitchen, and I’m not wowed, not angry, just depressed and somewhat disappointed. Mainly because the dish is actually filled with styrofoam and bits of dead dog. See i’ve been looking forward to Destiny for a while, as you've probably picked up, but just like a partially blind baseballer, its a bit hit and miss. The plot kicks off with the intro cinematic showing an oversized golf ball called the Traveler on mars, and apparently launched humanity into a space faring “golden age”. Calamity however strikes when the Traveling Golf Ball’s arch enemy, the generically called Darkness, shows up. Misiour Darkness then proceeds kick the living crap out of every person in the room. So then our character gets resurrected, in a rusty car in a rusty traffic jam next to a rusty brown wall by a floating robot called the Ghost, or Peter Dinklage depending on your celebrity knowledge. But Dinklage reads all his lines with about as much enthusiasm as a KFC fan looking through vegan diet options. This doesn’t help the fact that most of the games minimalistic story is told through exposition by him, or from the Grimiore cards on the bungie site, and just to add you cant tell a games story in a medium other then the bloody game. Having said there are some sections of the game that feel alive and well crafted, such as the first mission, which paces itself from running around in a darkened tunnel section from evil spider dudes to watching a giant spaceship fly over you a couple meters above your head. This first mission and a few others like it confirmed my suspicion that this game was chopped up for commercial purposes before release, maybe because the idea of mystical powers given to us by a golf ball is somewhat ridiculous when you think about it too much. Funnily enough after doing some digging I discovered some clever or desperate guys, depending on your perspective, on the Bungie forums had some better reinterpretations of the games minimal lore then the actual game had. So much for Bungie’s five star rep for listening to the customer. The games story mode is broken up by some immensely boring cutscenes with no hint of the grand story we were promised. Alongside the story there is the free roam patrol mode, which can be summed up with the phrase “go back to that place and do random shit”. And the free roam element is completely contradicted by Bungie’s deep passionate love of invisible walls. The Strikes are just longer missions with slightly more payoff, and the multiplayer is at least competent. In PvP I was having at least some fun double jumping around with a rifle and shotgun in hand, although balancing is still a bit of a problem and the game has some huge hit detection issues. I lost count of the amount of times I’d empty my weapons on some random in a corner for five minutes before the game jerked awake and gave me the kill out of pure pity. The one thing in the game I never did was the Raid, which is apparently the best part of the game. But saving the best till last then suddenly saying, oh no you cant do this until you have friends who all have as much time as you is a bit of a sucker-punch to say the least. Scenery and game plays nice at least, it functions. The constant disconnections from the game are arse, the loading times are worse and the loot system is still the worst I've seen, although they patched that and its still somewhat stupid. I’m to tired to even be somewhat witty about this train-wreck, I predict this game will fall faster then Tony Abbot will from parliament in a couple years. No public chat, game modes lacking matchmaking and the general mediocrity of the game are making me depressed. I’m holding out for just a shred of excellent in this game, but every time I get close to that goal some jerk off with a cheap exotic goes and ruins it all. Actually lets just stop sidestepping it and cut to the chase, The game isn't worth the money, don’t buy it. Well that saved a hell of a lot of time.

  • Sad you didn't like it, but by all means move on to games you do like. And that's not snark or "NO U!", it's just saying to each their own. I don't think even the most ardent fans of Destiny (I probably qualify) would defend its story as well-developed or complete at this point. Whether fault lies at the feet of Activi$ion, Bungie, or both - or in what percentage if both - is almost certainly nothing outside of two very closed communities will ever know for sure. Honestly I don't let it bother me much. I'm in gooey love with the rich sci-fi setting and lush (for last-gen) visuals; I dig the lootventure mechanics and Bungie's best-in-class shooter gunplay. I'm imaginative enough to people the world with interesting personalities (and willing to read the Grimoire - and have - to learn about how they act and interact). Most of all, I'm having fun, even as I'm willing to post threads here in the Feedback forum to try and move the game in a positive direction. One of the biggest current shortfalls is the complete lack of connective tissue between the game on disc and the Grimoire on this site. I mean, all four of the platforms the game is available on have browser solutions onboard. Just launch a webpage from the Speaker's room that links to the Grimoire FFS. That alone would do much to help the story experience IMO. And I have hope for the expansions in that regard as well.

      • Don't blame Bungie for the game. Blame Activision for cutting the game into pieces trying to make a buck by taking that cut content and reselling it on top of their game. Activision also didn't want Destiny to cut into their COD franchise that was recently released. I guarantee you when all the DLC's come out, this game will be great. It's a new type of RPG and once activision realizes no one is buying their DLC's for COD they'll try to focus on making great DLC's for Destiny. (Unless you're on xbox like I am, as for some odd reason they are giving more content for the PS4)

        • To your magic space golf ball rant Arthur C. Clark said magic is just science we have yet to understand And that's exactly how I viewed the "magic" in this game

          • I think everyone who has played Destiny knows the story was crap and needs to be addressed. A lot of people who just want a game to tell them a story will find Destiny is not for them. PvP is great fun and with new modes added will just get better. Raids are also great and for people who like challenging co-op play. Destiny is just going to keep getting better.

I don't think it's fair to compare destiny to a mess pile. It's more like you were promised lobster but got like half of it and without butter. Edit: Fine it's a lobster that's not fully cooked

              • Now to everyone with negative feedback, that's fine, feedback helps the writing improve, at least if the feedback is smart. To those smart people, I don't hate you or this game, but the game is still shit, that was my only point.

                  • Dude, why do you need validation from strangers to justify your hatred? I just saw your other post about how shitty it is. You have nothing better to do? Stop playing, then. Nobody cares.

                      • Honestly you don't like it and I do. It's just that simple because I'm not going to cut in saying how godly this game is, it's not. The loot system is a hell of a challenge but hey, more hours for me. Not to mention the damned level cap, disappointed. All the problems and the few good things are what make this. I play to pass time, whether I'm running a shooter like Battlefield or this game where I'm grinding. All that matters is it passed time. I'm not trying to argue here, You are entitled to your opinion as am I
