Why Hunters are utterly terrible in VOG

If you didn't check out the Gif above, then I'll say it here. Everybody, calm the -blam!- down. If you are slightly intelligent, then you might have guessed by now that the Title is over-exaggerated to simply get people clicking. If you aren't, then I suggest to leave now. Anyways, thank you for entering this thread, and now I shall begin. Why are Hunters so terrible in the Vault of Glass? This is a serious question many people have been wondering, mostly Hunters, mostly people observing the commotion, but nonetheless its been a topic of discussion. While my words aren't fact, I'll try to tackle this as Objectively as it is humanly possible. So, bear with me, I'm trying to give the community an answer that is reliant on Fact versus "well i'm a titan and hunters suk cause they cant bubble" and the like. To try and delve into why Hunters are "Terrible" in the Raid, we need to evaluate the Abilities and Skill Sets each Class and Subclass has available. For simplicity, let's focus on the Super Abilities each Class has to offer. I am writing this part in the assumption that readers know and understand the capabilities of the Six Super Abilities in Destiny, as of right now. For those needing refreshing, Titans possess the Arc Slam and Ward of Dawn; Warlocks possess the Nova Bomb and Radiance; and Hunters possess Golden Gun, and Arc Blade. Now, of these Super Abilities I can categorize them by what they are capable of doing. As in: Arc Slam, Nova Bomb, Golden Gun, and Arc Blade can deal massive Damage outright, Radiance is the only Super Ability that can affect the charge rates of a player and their teammates, And Ward of Dawn is the only Super Ability that can provide literal defense towards incoming damage for you and all teammates. Now, if you analyze this properly, you'd see that Titans have access to Damage and Defense Super Abilities, Warlocks have access to Damage and "Support" abilities (Supports in the case of "Buffs", more so than any other ability, even more than WoD), and Hunters only have access to Damage Super Abilities. Taking this into account, Damage, Defense, and Support, Hunters are left very restricted. Golden Gun and Arc Blade are strictly Damage based, and do not affect any other Player directly. You can argue that Golden Gun has the ability to kill high priority targets from afar, thus protecting teammates. If you argue this, then you can also argue that Nova Bomb can kill multiple high priority targets at a range, thus protecting teammates. You could also say that Arc Slam can do the same thing, though risky to the Titan at high level PvE like the Raid. So if you try to use this argument, you acknowledge that other abilities from the other classes can act similar, whilst also providing the options to their other subclasses that actively benefit other teammates outside of "Damage". This isn't a sufficient argument, so the point goes to everybody but the Hunters. You could argue that Arc Blade is really good at dealing massive damage at close range. Let me remind you that in the Raid, there are multiple enemies that can ruin your day if you try and get too close. Smack a Fanatic, and it'll blow up, leaving you Marked for Negation. Smack a Praetorian, and they might royally mess you up, unless you have damage resistance. Smack a Supplicant, well, you better kill them quickly or else insta-gibb. Saying you can deal damage up-close and personal also means you acknowledge that the Titan Arc Slam can do the same. It requires the Titan to get near enemies, and provides similar risks just as Arc Blade does, to some lesser extent. Once again, your argument also favors another class that has access to another ability that can directly affect other players, benefiting them outside of "Damage". With the above, you see that in terms of versatility, Hunters lack for the simple fact that they only have access to Damage abilities, while the Titan and Warlock have access to one Damage ability, and another Defense/Support ability, respectively. This is the reason Hunters are so taboo in Raids; everything they can do, Titans and Warlocks can do to some extent, while Hunters cannot protect players like a Defender Titan can with Ward of Dawn, and they can't even hope to benefit Teammates with the Ability Charge Radiance can provide when the Warlock wishes. Simply put, Hunters lack any benefits that other Players may capitalize on. And whatever benefits they do possess are either too minor to be considered, or are done just as well as Titans or Warlocks. This is due to their Super, and nothing more. Really, Supers mean a great deal in Raids. And because Hunters lack the appeal of Ward of Dawn or Radiance, they are considered horrible, and are often replaced by those who can actively benefit their teammates. ...But this does not mean Hunters aren't viable in the Raid. But didn't I just spend this entire lengthy post detailing why Hunters lack in comparison to Titans and Warlocks? Yes, I did. But that simply details the disadvantage Hunters have that the other classes do not in the Vault of Glass. But in Destiny, your Class does not Define your playstyle. Your Playstyle defines your Class. Confused? I'll explain: If you wanted to deal lots of Damage, be up-close and personal, and be a serious threat to anyone on the battlefield, then you don't have to pick a Titan, Hunter, or Warlock to do so. Titans aren't all about "CQC/Tanking", Hunters aren't all about "Stealth/Sniping", and Warlocks aren't all about "Fighting at a Distance/Buffing Teammates". Every Class has a Gun. Every Class has HP. Every Class can Kill. And this is what separates Classes in Destiny. I don't have to be a Hunter if I want to be a long-ranged Sniper. A Titan can snipe perfectly fine, and so can Warlocks. I don't have to be a Titan to Tank, either. Hunters and Warlocks can soak lots of damage, and Skilled players can abuse the PvE aggro more than efficiently. And whoever said that Warlocks couldn't CQC? Just because they use Magic? Whatever Class you choose, no matter which, does not define your playstyle. It does not restrict how you play a shooter. Instead, your Playstyle decides your Class. Whatever you want to do, you can do within your Class. With the exception of Super Abilities, each class can use any gun, and kill just as well as any other Class. Hunters may lack the Super Abilities that benefit Teammates directly, like the WoD Titans have, or the Radiance that Warlocks possess, but this does not stop Hunters from killing Adds. This doesn't stop them from killing Oracles. Or killing the Templar, Or Sneaking past the Gorgons, Or using the Relic, Or opening Portals, Or killing Supplicants, Or even taking down Atheon. It's no question; Hunters lack versatility. This is why people favor Titans and Warlocks over Hunters in the Raid; Titans and Warlocks have the potential to be beneficial to other players directly. Hunters lack this potential, right now. Hopefully their Third Subclass can provide what they lack, but as of right now, this is as objective as I can make it. Even saying this, don't just kick out a Hunter from your Raid group because they aren't Titans or Warlocks. A Skilled player can make due with the bare necessities, and as helpful as Ward of Dawn and Radiance can be, they are not requirements to complete the Vault of Glass, Normal or Hard. To those who stuck around for the end, thank you for reading this lengthy post. I try my best to post with little personal opinion, and utilize the information presented by the game to translate into legitimate statements. If you have any problems with anything I wrote, feel free to post a reply below. Any other follow-up information may also be posted, but please remain respectful towards the Forums, Community, and myself included. And with that, TL;DR:
You should probably go back and read this post, instead of skipping to the end for the final results like 60% of you probably did.
Thank you.
