Things you wish you would have known

Things I wish I had known when I first started playing Destiny: 1.) Save all your rare fusion rifles! The Pocket Infinity is hungry, you know. One day you just might get the bounty for it. 2.) Even if you love your current subclass to death, once you've maxed out it is a good idea to switch to your other subclass before turning in your bounties. Why waste that free experience? You may want to use it one day. 3.) Fusion Rifles: Hip Fire at close range! Spraying the enemy with vaporizing ammunition over their heads really doesn't work. nor scare them. They aren't grunts from Halo that will run away with their hands over their heads. 4.) Patrols do not end! I swear I spent over an hour on my first patrol waiting for it to end. I didn't want to return to orbit and fail the "mission". 5.) If you love shotguns, it's a good idea to practice the slide --> OHK enemies during the Story mode. Practice makes perfect, but trying to practice this in the Crucible means certain death. 6.) Love shotguns, but are you getting obliterated running straight at your target? Well, Warlocks and Hunters have Blink! Jump up and then blink towards the enemy, it increases the likelihood you'll get to your target alive to deliver the knockout blow. 7.) If you get a rare rocket launcher with the perk "rockets from this weapon will detonate early based on proximity to targets" saved it! That is awesome in the Crucible. Yes, I did shoot that over your head on purpose. Yes, it did kill you while you were behind cover. 8.) Don't exchange your materials (Spinmetal/Spirit Bloom/etc.) for Vanguard or Crucible Marks just yet. One day you will want those to upgrade your gear. 9.) Don't try out the Crucible at level 5 with the white gun that the Weapon-smith gave you. It was free for a reason, you know. 10.) Love the Bladedancer's Arcblade in the Crucible? Well, resist the urge to activate it when at low health and backed into a corner. Yes, the enemy will kill you with just one more bullet. I swear people swell with pride when they gun you down in Arcblade form. 11.) It is a good idea to have multiple special and heavy weapons with all three damage types (Arc/Void/etc.). When you start doing weekly missions or exotic bounties you will be thankful. (Void damage for the Thorn bounty!) 12.) Doing your first Strike? Well, its good to know you can revive your teammates when they fall. Ignoring two downed teammates is a bad thing, even if it was through ignorance. 13.) Did you just get to choose between 3 exotic bounties? Awesome! Well, don't just choose at random. You can see what the outcomes will be by searching online. Glad I didn't pick the Bad Juju one! 14.) Don't be worried about missing a blue/purple/exotic engrams while doing story missions. If you missed one it will be sent to you via the mail carrier in the tower after the mission ends. I probably spent hours when I first started checking every nook and cranny to make sure I didn't miss one. "But, what if one was a legendary?!" Mail Carrier: "I got your back, bro." What would have liked to know when you first started playing Destiny? Granted, some of these would have been helpful for me even after I reached level 20. Please feel free to share your favorites.

  • I wish I would have know the importance of the Ice Breaker in the hard raid and that Xur would not have it again for eons.

  • 1. That you get rewards for ranking your faction rep past rank 3. I wouldn't have wasted time ranking up to level 2 with Dead Orbit. 2. That each time Xur brings a duplicate of an exotic armor piece it has DIFFERENT buff rolls than the version that he sold in previous weeks. Got my second Skull of Dire Ahamkara from the random engram...and sharded it before even looking at wether it was better than the one I had already.
1.) Save all your rare fusion rifles! The Pocket Infinity is hungry, you know. One day you just might get the bounty for it.
Trouble with this is that inventory and stash space won't allow it.
2.) Even if you love your current subclass to death, once you've maxed out it is a good idea to switch to your other subclass before turning in your bounties. Why waste that free experience? You may want to use it one day.
This! That's why I like Titan. Both subclasses have their uses and I switch back and forth ALL the time.
4.) Patrols do not end! I swear I spent over an hour on my first patrol waiting for it to end. I didn't want to return to orbit and fail the "mission".
You can abandon a patrol mission by bringing up Dinklebot and holding down the button shown for "abandon mission".
9.) Don't try out the Crucible at level 5 with the white gun that the Weapon-smith gave you. It was free for a reason, you know.
You just need an auto rifle with decent stability and impact and you can do very well in crucible. My new hunter has been playing crucible almost exclusively since level 7 and has been doing pretty well with white and green weapons (levelled up to 16 now from crucible alone).

-Ducking behind certain height cover will allow you to auto-aim over the cover when you are facing it and aim down. All you have to do is release the aim-down to duck back into cover just read this in another forum last week, and ive been playing since release, just figured it out recently. It is somewhat a "secret" mechanic, as the game never tells you that you can do this. So useful. You just need cover that is around the same height as a crouched guardian. -rank up 3 characters ASAP being able to do Nightfall, Weekly, Raid, gain marks, rep, etc is a lot more rewarding when you can gain three rewards per activity per week.

    • I wish I had known that this game would have been overall underwhelming, and the only reason to keep logging in is minor up keep and a shard farm.

Don't listen to the nightfall difficulty of Very Hard. This discouraged me from trying it until I was actually 28. Missed out on a lot of free goodies.

        • Don't use ascendant shards unless it's on raid gear or exotics. You can't get level 30 on regular legendaries, so Don't bother investing 18 shards into a piece of gear that you're just going to dismantle later. Shards are invaluable

          • 9) one of these days I need to create a new account so I can make a 4th character and play crucible in all white gear. 13) don't pick thorn when you get a missive right after hitting 20 like I did. (unless you enjoy being carried) That bounty sat in my inventory for SOOOO long. I picked up another and completed it before I was high enough level to handle xyor. 14) Do green engrams actually drop? I pretty sure I've never seen one in the mail either way.... And I avoid picking up greens.

            • 8) selling material ranks up your sub class, gear and weapons the same as turning in a bounty 9)not true. white weapons have all the lethality minus perks the greens and better have.

To not buy the game because there is no story and the PvE content is repetitive garbage.
