Have Faith: A place to challenge complaints.

With little deliberation I've chosen to start this thread in Feedback since most of the complaints seem focused here. In these threads I'd like to respond to every comment, I may quote something you missed or another response if I've already addressed that issue. I don't want to appear rude, however, if your reply is nonsensical, angry or ALLCAPS I may overlook you. Without further ado, let the debate begin. • I paid 60$ for this game. The current content is not enough, unacceptable. I think this is one of the most opinionated arguments out there. Some feel it's fine, others do not. So what makes this a valid point? Promises and expectations. I've been excited to play this game for almost 5 years. I quit WoW, got into various other MMO's, League of Legends and eventually let Warframe and Titanfall fill the nitch gap I expected Destiny to fill. I read up on Destiny, bought into the hype, was expecting a monster and then realized something when the game came out. It's not a monster, yet. I'll start with some perspective. Look at Halo one, it had maybe 8 hours of linear content. It cost me 60$ new and I had to get an Xbox. It left us with many questions unanswered, plot holes unfilled, theorys to share and a pretty great PvP system. Over years and multiple new systems I got more content, it got better and better with time and eventually I found new content to play in the form of MMO's and CoD. Why do you expect anything different with Destiny, you have only to look at the company's history for a trend. Most FPS titles today have less PvE content than Destiny and cost the same, they're linear and the missions/challenges never change. Before raging about why the games isn't what we were sold to believe, look at the game from the other side, past the controller, past the ring of your CD and think about what you've bought. You've bought into an emerging community of die-hard fans backed by a responsive and proven development team. You have this unique opportunity to help shape the content of this game by submitting objective feedback about what is there right now, they've already commented on our feedback and in this next expansion hope to surprise us with the changes to story-telling and content. Bungie promised an expansive, discoverable universe with endless customization where you forge your character to be something unique and focused to your playstyle. The framework is there, we're just getting started. It's easy to see how people look at the first expansion and think "we're all the same" and get pissed off, I get it, its short-sighted though. Just look to this next expansion for evidence of the future. Imagine just 10 or 20 patches down the road, paid and free, expanded earth alone. Eventually you'd have this huge, instanced real to discover and explore in just Russia alone. Imagine that with Africa, US, Europe, Asia. Now multiply that by every moon, world and outer solar-system location we have yet to even see. This initial release is just the starting zones of each starting planet, they're telling a story bit-by-bit as our characters are meant to be exposed to it. They promised us a 10 year plan for Destiny, if this first set of expansions is any trend towards the future we're going to see one of the most diversified and expansive games in the history of FPS or MMO gaming. Period. I think that Bungie releasing limited initial content has caused a bit of a stir, and I understand some issues with it. I think, however, it was intended. Unlike other MMO type games where we get a years worth of content or more and have to wait another year or longer for the next 60$ expansion while paying regular fee's to keep the game bug-free and maintained between expansions. Bungie has instead set-up a more agile and quick to respond model where they release more frequent, smaller and cheaper expansions so they can see how we respond to what we have and make changes to upcoming content so it better resonates with our changing needs and wants. It is a soft-subscription fee in the form of cheaper expansions, unlike other MMO's where they lock you out of your account when you fail to pay. You can choose when to pay for the next content upgrade while still enjoying as much of the game as you like. I suspect that as several expansions come out they'll start selling the older ones at cheap, hard discount prices. If you want to take a break, take it, you'll catch up, I'd even help. Just add me on PSN :D Subtopic: I'm a MMO player, I wanted more story. I feel you, I wanted more too. I wasn't satisfied with what I was presented and it took me a while to figure out why. Some of it is because of the above, less content with more frequent upgrades, but its also because this game is a social game. You're meant to tie your experience in with bungie's grimoir cards and the community discussions. There's lots of theory-crafting topics and excited people chatting about story and the universe like its the next star-wars, its actually pretty fun and I think if there wasn't so much mystery surrounding the game and where it's gong there would be far less community storytelling and debate. If that's not your thing, well. Maybe takea break for a few expansions and come back, I'm sure there will be far-far more story and universe to explore. I however, am an avid collector, I can't miss the new content, I want it all as it comes o__o; Subtopic: I'm a FPS player, PVP isn't what I expected. Well, to some extent PVP was an extra. Or at least some people think so. I really enjoy PVP, I suspect the map diversity will expand new games-types will emerge and new challenges to balance weapons will arise as you meet each expansion head-on. It suffers from the same issues as PVE, content comes slow for those of us at the finish line, I don't think buying another 60$ PvP oriented game would be any better though, you'd still have DLC, you'd have less in the end. I do get how weapons being nerfed/tweaked can be annoying time to time, it's something you'll have to adapt and get used to if you play this sort of game. • Why didn't QA or Beta cover all these bugs/exploits/issues. Simple math, hundred or so people playing and breaking the game can only find the most glaring issues. When exposed to as many players as destiny is now, you'll find accidental glitches that are repeatable, the architecture has changed from in-house to live. As millions of people try to do things outside the box genius emerges and its up to the Devs to decide if the methods and ways we do the game was intended or not. Subtopic: Atheon 'bug' Pushing and Random Teleports; terminology issues. I think it's pretty obvious that pushing him off was an AI bug on the developments part. I highly doubt that the QA team discovered this exploit as it was really only discovered when two people ran the raid as a duo and it was posted to youtube. As for the three people in back vs. three random teleport. Again, its highly opinionated. Dev's can't be expected to respond to peoples opinions of content that isn't even live yet, you have to try what it is they're implementing before judging it. I really didn't find this change in tactics difficult, it actually gave us more time on the boss in exchange for teaching a couple people how to handle the relic. If you ave questions, post below I'd be happy to address this further :> • Customization, this isn't what I was 'promised' I expected more. The game is small right now, the customization issue is hand-in-hand with the volume of content. For those of us that have dumped hundreds of hours into the starting zones and content, we have it all. For those casual, average players they probably have a few exotics and raid-goals in mind. As this game expands year after year, I suspect the universe will be entirely too big for the average player to get through. They'll likely have picked a path to level on, gear up around and their gearing and setup will be entirely different than mine or yours. People will have weapons they kept and weapons they still want. Capes, blood-pressure bands and butt-flags galore. I think more face/hair/shape customization coulda been neat, but I can see how a console specific games wants to keep what you load to a minimum, not to mention clipping bugs that come with height and shape modification. Maybe in the future! Races were meant to have slightly different starting areas I suspect. I also suspect that they chose not to reveal the awoken, human or Exo story for how a guardian is formed and what their individual mysteries were for now. Perhaps in the future each race and class will have more elaborated and playable stories. For now we've awoken in the very beginning, we'll have a different story to tell than those who join us down the road. It'll be water under the bridge. Continued below.

  • You're the brave one who actually went to the trouble of typing all the things I was thinking in regards to the complaints and willing to take the inevitable return fire. For that, I commend you. The simple side of it, MMOs take time to develop themselves. It can take till well after the release for the game to really evolve into what its going to be. I read somewhere that most MMOs take about 2 years to really establish themselves. Especially considering that Destiny is made by a company that never really ventured into the MOM world. Its a good start, but right now, that's all it is. Its going to take time, and not all players are willing to wait.
