Weapon Balance For Dummies

To all of those who simply don't get understand anything about weapon balance, this is for you. Weapon balance has two layers, one simple, one slightly more complex. Part One, Efficiency So this is very simple. You take the damage per round (X). Multiply it by the rounds per second (Y). Them divide by the total health of a target (Z). XY/Z = K, Kill Time The lower your value of K is the better off you are. Also since a weapon also has a range at which damage drops off, your K value is range dependant.
Examples: In Close Quarter Combat #1 Auto Rifle/Hand Cannon #2 Burst Rifle #3 Scout Rifle In Mid Range Combat #1 AutoRifle/Burst Rifle #2 Hand Cannon/Scout Rifle In Long Range Combat #1 Scout Rifle #2 Burst Rifle #3 Auto Rifle/Hand Cannon
This creates a hierarchy of weapons at particular ranges. And before you say, "Doc, what about Shotguns and Fusion Rifles, they're OP and kill you in 1 shot." I'm getting to them, be patient. So Special Weapons are "special" for a reason. That reason being they dominate their intended ranges. Shotguns, Fusion Rifles, and Sniper Rifles dominate close, mid, and long ranges respectively. That is the whole point of them. It's a beautiful rock, paper, scissors scenario. Fusion Rifles are beautifully designed for balance. The reason they charge is so their K value is higher than shotguns in CQC. Part Two, Other Stats So here is where balance can be trickier. When you include stability, reload speed, and magazine size, things can get really complex really fast. To simplify it as much as possible each stat had it's own kind of responsibility. Stability is a somewhat skill based range limitation. Reload Speed and Magazine Size are Multi-Kill restrictor. I can't really go into more than that on my phone so that's all you get for now. Oh crap here we go again, "Hey Doc, what about exotics, surely they break the game." Why yes they do that's the point. Exotics SHOULD (I'm looking at you Bad Juju) out perform their legendary counterparts in every way. That's why you are limited to one Exotic weapon. TL;DR - If special ammo only spawned twice as often as heavy ammo. The works would be a much better place.
