How Armor SHOULD Be IMO
I personally am not a fan of how armor currently exists in the game. We find armor that looks awesome, but the stats don't match how we want to play, or its a rare/non raid armor so if we want to be higher level we have to ditch it.
I think that when you find or buy anything under an exotic piece, we should be able to customize and upgrade the stats. Here's an example:

[i]I find a rare chest piece that I love the look of. It has 0 Intellect, 41 Strength, 40 Discipline. Damn, I need intellect...and its rare so what's the point really :([/i]

[i]I find a rare chest piece that I love the look of. It has 81 talent points. I decide to put 50 into Intellect and 30 into Strength. Sweet! Now it buffs what I need. Then I can lock that choice in permanently for a bonus of some kind.
Also it doesn't matter that it's rare because for 20 Motes of Light I can purchase a Light Transfusion which upgrades my rare item to legendary quality, upgrading my defense, and adding a few Talent points that I can assign to my liking.
But I still want level 30...hmm well every time I beat a raid, I earn an Enrichment Diode and 5 of those bad boys allows me to upgrade a piece of my armor to light level 30.[/i]
Thoughts?

I have purchased a Legendary Exodus Vest, I also have a Nightmask OAX chest piece which is the model I prefer. I would like, at the very least, to go to an armorer or something give him/her the armor and some glimmer and have the armorer decode the legendary and apply it's stats to the Nightmask model. They could then concatenate the name . I lose the Exodus Vest and I lose the Nightmask Vest and receive a Legendary Nightmask Exodus Vest with the Nightmask model and exodus perks. I think that this would require the minimum of effort (model swap) and would not effect game balance since all of the perks are already within the game mechanic. This might also make an excellent mid point where we could have this level of customization so that Bungie has time to develop more advanced customization features.

This would be SO FRICKIN NICE. Mostly the enrichment diode part. I'm so tired of running the raid and never getting anything new. I don't even get armor drops anymore, just shards.

I mean, this sounds really cool. I like the 5 coins for a Raid Piece idea a lot. It sucks it's just a little too late for Bungie to implement something like this :/

2 Replies5 diodes might be a little high. That's 20 raid completions to get full level 30 gear. Then again, I've beaten the raid 11 or 12 times and still don't have the friggin boots, so maybe you're spot on with the 5. Haha

Bump. I've been preaching this for a while now, why the light leveling is flawed. Problem is they would have to rework the entire game to get this so I wouldn't hold your breath for anything resembling any sort of logic to be implemented in this game. Personally I feel the only way to "fix" this game is to pull a FFXIV. Parts of it need rebuilt from the ground up.

I really wish they made some interesting names for the stats that made sense in the lore, instead of having armor that inexplicably makes you smarter. What, do my gauntlets have a cheat sheet on how I can smash the ground or create a safety bubble faster than normal?

I would be more OK with a re-forging style. Like having it cost very high amounts of materials to re-stat your armor how you want it.

1 ReplyYou're cutting out the RNG but these types of games rely on RNG, they need players to farm, grind and strive for the 'perfect loot'. If your system existed I would not need any further armor drops period and once I have upgraded my armor then that's it, game over in terms of gearing. What then?

I believe this (as in how you've outlined it) to be the best way forward along with the introduction of a wardrobe for skins without stats (like if you hate the look of an exotic but want its unique skills for example)

Imagine if I use my born spark armor(starter armour for warlocks) and use it to level all the way to 30. Epicness will be achieved.

I am lvl 30 I like my armor to protect me like it should I shouldn't be damaged by a lvl 10 what is that crap man.

I don't agree with the talent point system. If this were implemented we'd be better off just buying armor pieces from a vendor based on aesthetics, then just leveling them up. Just skip all the middle men and let the players pick armor and spend mats on upgrades.

I also wish, rather than having to dedicate upgrading the 'light' of one piece of armor (especially if they're going to require raid completion), that they'd allow for transmog. Yes, just like WoW. Then I can decide just how I want my character to look. Create my own style. Even using all my available exotics for esthetics...
