I just checked out a couple of sites on some normal runs, and I couldn't help but notice some articles discussing The Dark Below DLC features. According to GameSpot, the DLC will have:
New weapons, armor, and gear to earn, including Legendary and Exotic items Light Level cap raised to 32 and five additional Bounty slots added New story quests and missions--after years hiding amongst the Hive shadows, a new character, Eris, has come forth bearing an ominous warning: The Hive seek to summon a god, Crota, to destroy the Earth. Find Eris in the Tower to take on special quests that include three new missions where you will increase your Light and earn new rewards New cooperative Strike, The Will of Crota, pits you and your Fireteam against Omnigul as she works to expand the Hive army at the command of her master, Crota Three new competitive multiplayer arenas: Pantheon--set deep within the Black Garden in an ancient Vex temple that features Vex-designed landscapes and tight corridors Skyshock--an old interplanetary defense array that offers both vehicle and infantry engagements The Cauldron--an abandoned Hive ritual site that offers close-quarter combat New six-player Raid, Crota’s End, set deep within the depths of the Hellmouth PlayStation platforms will also get access to an exclusive cooperative Strike, The Undying Mind, and more (timed exclusive until at least Fall 2015)
I won't get into some pages-long diatribe about how I feel like I've been robbed due to content existing on my disc that I paid for, but cant play. I don't care. But even so, does anybody else feel completely and utterly jipped? I guess I just figured there would be more available come the second DLC release. My issue, primarily, is that it just seems so clear to me how Bungie is employing tactics out of Activision's strategy book of nickle and diming players for nominal and incremental advancements to their game. My whole thing is, as a Battlefield Player, I'm expecting sweeping additions and changes. 3 new strikes, 3 new pvp maps, and one raid is NOT an expansion. Its not. Especially in light of how obviously limited the vanilla environment felt. I guess it just sucks because I, along with players I know on both consoles, have really been holding out for the bigger picture that Bungie has been convincing us to stick around for. I, personally, was never sold any false promises on Destiny because, quite honestly, it wasn't a game I was keeping up with in its early phases pre-release. But what I WILL say, is that after scoring a 6/10 on Gamespot and Polygon, Bungie and Activision aren't doing much to make these publications eat their words. Moreoever, the DLC just falls flat on all accounts. It is almost as if Bungie and Activision weren't even trying to listen to the requests and wants of the community. IMO, The Dark Below DLC should have looked like this: -No less than 10 new Strikes -2 New Raids (Moon, Mars) -Level cap no less than 35. -At least 1-2 higher level patrol zones for each world -PVP Maps should always add no less than 50% of the original map count in the vanilla pack. This is me speaking, again, as a battlefield kid who has traditionally enjoyed hefty and extensive expansions with cool maps, guns and vehicles. Destiny had 10 PVP maps out of the box, TDB should have NO LESS than 5. My issue with destiny isn't that Bungie has loaded what is essentially GROUNDWORK for other sections already on-disc. It is the fact that this information on The Dark Below confirms that this game will likely not be immune to any of Activision's lazy approach to DLC creation... And quite honestly? That's enough to make me consider not playing anymore... That is much of the reason why I stopped playing COD--Because beyond a couple of disappointingly small maps, and a handful (like 3-5) of new guns, the game remained largely the same between its different expansions. If the Destiny devteam expect to have a 10-year franchise on their hands, why wouldn't they added more to solidify its presence? Im curious about what others were expecting to see from The Dark Below expansion pack, and would love to see what your thoughts are on the forthcoming release. Is it what you were looking for out of Destiny's first continuation, or does it fall short? If so, how much, and how so? I think discussions like these are important, especially when deliveries such as The Dark Below fall short of expectations.`At the very worst, this thread will just give some folks a place to blow off some steam, but at best, it could provide the devteam with some insight into what release-quality should resemble when making creative overtures to the community. Anyways, just a thought.
