The Darkness = The Dark Ages. key to everything!

I will edit later with more details but I think this could be a rich vein Read these http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Ages http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decline_of_the_Roman_Empire The Golden Age = The Roman Empire The Fallen = barbarians (Goths, Vandals etc) The Hive = rise of monotheism (Muslim empire and the Papacy) The City = Florence, the city-state that birthed the Renaissance What I'm saying is that these are the themes Bungie are exploring. Being a citizen in the remains of a once great empire, now overrun by outside forces, barely understanding what has been lost and how it happened. Historians still debate why Rome declined. Centuries ago they literally just referred to a darkness which enveloped civilisation. Similar to how The Speaker describes the world in Destiny.

      • So this is basically history repeating itself? Well that is certainly interesting...

        • You're putting more effort into Destiny's story than all their writers combined.

I've thought this as well, the grimoire cards remind me of literary fragments from the dark ages. Which where pieces of larger works that where found and thrown together to make a book years later after the fall. Thus giving you pieces of the past, but not making a lot of sense. I actually used this as a plot device, to give out history of a land, for a international LARP. The people that come from all over for the games understand the concept and have been collecting the pieces since 2006. This is what I hope they are attempting with their plot line.

          • i see what you sayin bro. I've been looking at the grimoire cards here and there to try to flesh out the story, but it's all very disconnected and vague. reagardless of their motivations or their inspirations, I'd like to see the NPCs get some shine to really add some story to the game u feel me? Check me out... You got a strike that plays like a raid. You and 2 others, while the other three are the vangaurd hunter, lock, and titan. throw in some cutscenes for aesthetics, some vog mechanics to make it interesting, but try to keep the play time between 45m-1hr. If bungie fleshed out the characters a little more that would really bring the story to life for people who wanna know about it. shit they could make it an event like queen's wrath, or a special heroic strike (better yet... nightfall) one week out the month. with different story lines to them. Little black ops shorts kinda, suicide missions,... shit like that. plus people got all week to get with it before they miss out, and each one should have a special reward. not even necessarily gear, but at least a class item, a ship, and/or an emblem. I'm sure there will be other mechanics in play with the gear system as time goes on, but I would still wanna have something to say "I was there... that shit was tight...", without having to say anything at all you feel me? All this just came to me as I started typing this post. I'ma re-post, and see if I can't get some bumps. I would love to see an element of story progression in a game like this, at least with a small group of characters, or maybe rotating groups of characters. Maybe I'm just getting excited, but that shit sounds tight to me. Bump ya boy if you wanna see more story outta Destiny. Imagine the opportunity to play through your favorite tv show or action-comic book series. I think that would take the genre to another level. But I digress destiny fam-bam.... -blam!- it I'm bout to log back on (lol) Ps3 psn=Kr90018 lvl 26 hunter/titan (let my wife play the warlock... she gettin kinda smooth though...) Happy Hunting ya'll. Bless.
