I was playing with one of my friends yesterday who I enjoy talking about Destiny lore/speculations/story thus far with. He brought up that there are 7 larger sized strange coins spread out throughout the tower. Now, I tried to do some research as to what strange coins actually are and why they might be important to Xur. You can probably guess that the overwhelming majority of my search results ended in how to farm/obtain strange coins and what Xur is selling. My question is this: Why does Xur want strange coins? Am I looking into this too deeply? Where do strange coins come from and are they useful to the nine? I realize this might just be a random currency put in to buy the exotics of Xur (seeing as Xur even sells/sold strange coins for glimmer). I hope there is something to them as Xur's position with the nine makes me more inquisitive than the lore of say glimmer. Thanks.
