Improving Destiny

Some suggestions regarding several different mechanics in the game. For your consideration. RNG Loot System: Currently most of the loot in Destiny is RNG except for maybe VoG as this got at least special items in its loot table. I think this system is rather frustrating as you are not able to “work” towards most items in the game. For example if you wanted a Vex Mythoclast then you would go to the VoG in hard mode as it only drops there. You have a goal and a clear path how to acquire the item even though it is random who or when you may get it if at all. However at least you know what to do in order to have a chance at it. But what if you wanted a The Last Word? – That item drops from basically anything in the game world. While in theory your current RNG system enables players to do whatever they want to acquire the item the reality is that it is completely out of their hands making it discouraging. I therefore suggest to rework your entire RNG system to be more similar to what VoG is doing. Have certain loot tables for certain activities, places, enemies etc. so people can actively choose to pursue certain items. It is certainly great to get a good random exotic or legendary drop but I think it is all the more fulfilling to finally get an item you actually wanted and put effort into getting it. Vote Kick option: I think we need this option. Passive people in strikes are a rather common issue and then there sometimes unhelpful people in PvP as well. Give the affected strike team the ability to actively counteract these players by offering them a simple majority vote. Certain limitations e.g. players can only issue a vote every X time and only X times a day could be implemented to prevent abuse. The details are for you to work out but I think a vote kick option would benefit the game if done right. Optional Matchmaking for all modes: There is really no downside offering it to the players. It’s not just the raids but story missions as well. If people want to play in a team and got none of their friends at hand just let them connect to random players with the same intention. However don’t make it mandatory like in the Crucible or Strikes, make it optional! – People should still be able to go alone or in “odd” teams. Maybe extend your current matchmaking system by offering a filter for certain languages/regions which would come in handy with my next suggestion: VoIP for all modes: I get your concerns offering VoIP for example in PvP as it often quickly turns into a cesspool of hatred. But honestly even with that downside it is a too important tool of team coordination to omit it. In combination with the kick vote I suggested earlier and an option to forcefully mute players I believe people would rather like to have it than not. Join game in progress option: Now I get why you would refrain from offering this in PvP. Aside from random disconnected players it usually fishy if you join a session in progress as it is most likely a losing team. So barely anyone would use it. Anyway if you consider offering matchmaking especially for story and raid I think it would be beneficial to let the players choose whether the like being put into a running session or would prefer only being matched with one starting from the beginning of an activity. PvE factions: Currently Destiny only offers the Vanguard traders for PvE players. Basically it is one shop selling you armor for your class (divided onto three NPCs) and one shop selling you weapons (and speeders). However it offers 3 factions for PvP as well as general Crucible traders that serve the same function as the Vanguard option. This means that Crucible Marks are way more usefully than Vanguard Marks and PvP players have more options to specialize their characters. Now I get that with raid gear this becomes rather obsolete in end game but for the mid game it is rather striking that PvP players can choose which stats abilities they want to push and PvEs simply can’t. So yea how about offering PvE players the same options by creating some PvE factions? Vanity Slots: As I mentioned all other gear becomes obsolete once you acquire raid gear or basically any other gear that increases your light level above your current standing. So everyone ultimately switches to higher light level gear regardless of stats abilities or whatever as the light level ultimately in PvE (or Iron Banner) is more important than anything else. The inevitable conclusion is that every player of a certain class will look the same (assuming they all can acquire the highest rated gear of course). To avoid this you could offer vanity slots where player could equip gear in order to use that look instead of the real equipment. People could then equip one item for the stats they wish for and one for the look the wish for. Shaders: TBH I don’t like most Shaders. For me they are too saturated. They look surreal and more out of a super hero comic… with rather bad taste. Anyway there are some decent shaders in Destiny for example Thunderdevil. However for most of the part the RNG gets the way of actually getting your hands on them. You already got the Guardian Outfitter on the tower selling very few shaders. How about adding a slot with a random picked shader for sale that gets cycled just like the emblems? Maybe not legendary shaders but of the rare and uncommon shaders?
