Leaving

To whom it may concern (at Bungie), I am leaving Destiny but I wanted to give you an explanation as to why. Since the very first announcement of the game, I've been a huge Destiny fan. I still remember showing every gamer I knew the E3 and gameplay trailers back in 2013. Back then the game had so much promise and unlimited potential. I knew this was the game that I would buy immediately and scoop up the DLC the moment it came out, giddy at the thought of new weapons/armor/worlds. But I played it safe and only pre-ordered Destiny's regular version, opting out of the DLC expansion pass with the option to buy it later if things went as well as I had hoped. However, things did not go well. Tues 9/9: 5:30 couldn't come soon enough at work. I left 5 minutes early to beat the flood of people leaving the office. After a short drive and a brief period of waiting in line at Best Buy, Destiny was finally in my hands! It was mere minutes before I was home and happily downloading the day 1 patch. At the end of the night my warlock was made and Earth was conquered (with the exception of the strike). Excited for what tomorrow's missions will bring, I went to bed. However an idle thought kept me awake for a little while. What was that speaker's deal? I get there was some big war that happened, but you'd think he would have filled me in on the details. I understand that I used to be dead, but this floating orb "ghost" brought me back. Did I die in the war? Wed 9/10: The entire day at work felt like bullet time in the Matrix. My email inbox was as bored as I was and I could swear that the water cooler was pouring water in slow motion. Finally, 5:30 had arrived! I raced home (without speeding... somehow) walked and fed the dog, prepared dinner and fired up Destiny. Before I knew it, nightfall had arrived with the Moon and half of Venus having felt my wrath. But something was amiss. Who was this strange robot lady and why couldn't she tell me who she was? What do you mean you don't have time to explain why you don't have time to explain? If I were in as much a rush as you, I'd certainly be talking much faster! Oh well, maybe I'll find out tomorrow and we'll both fight the Vex together in an epic battle. Thurs 9/11: Work wasn't so bad today, got a lot of work done and that made the day go by quickly. Soon it was time to go home, do the chores then find out who this mystery lady was. Clearly she was a hunter, that cloak was a dead giveaway. But if she isn't a guardian, who is she with? Some time drifts by and suddenly I'm staring down a massive black robotic heart who is bringing stone statues to life. A few nova bombs, more than a few grenades and a healthy amount of bullets taught them all a lesson! What's this, speech time? Oh, awesome! Maybe I'll get to find out what this is all about and where we are going. This feels like a good half-way point to take a break from the action and drop a few knowledge bombs on the players. *The speech is over* Wait... what? Hold on, lemme get this straight. You said a lot of stuff just now, but at the same time you said nothing. Nothing helpful as to what has happened, what is happening or what's going to happen. That last mission with the robot heart was the last mission in the game? You can't be serious. And what's with giving me your gun, lady? Don't you think I could have used this BEFORE?! You know, "before", as in before the end of the game?! What happened to the epic story they went on and on about when they announced Destiny? What happened to all the planets? What's with the ships? Why are they only used at the loading screens, and why are there different calibers of ships? It doesn't seem like a blue ship loads the next mission any faster than a green or white one for that matter, so what's the point? So what is there left to do if the story is really over? Well, I haven't unlocked any legendaries or exotics for my warlock. Maybe if I do that, I'll have more fun in strikes and crucible. Fast forward to today. Here I am, coming to the realization that over the last few weeks... I wasn't having any fun in Destiny. Repeatedly doing the daily missions has become another form of work. What is there left to do? I created a Titan and beat the story with him but this time it wasn't as fun as before. Each mission was just a mindless grind of go here, stop there, defend the ghost, go to orbit, pick the next mission, rinse and repeat. People say that the most fun is from the Vault, so what does that mean for me (at level 26-27)? Do more strikes to get vanguard marks to get better gear to do the dailies with to get the materials to upgrade said gear to do Vault to get even better gear to do the dailies with to upgrade said gear to... to... to what? It's all the same. Why would I want to grind and farm for better gear to do a raid to grind and farm for even better gear for no reason? I'd much rather work towards gear to use for beating the story because at least then it will feel like my efforts have gone towards a goal or a higher purpose. So to wrap things up with a nice little bow, I'm leaving. I tried Bungie, I really did. I can't tell you how many times I've defended you from attacks from people saying you are a wanna-be Borderlands, or your random loot drops are broken, or your lack of drops from strike bosses is ridiculous, or you've incorporated all the bad stuff from MMOs and left out the good. But I'm tired. I'm tired of trying and tired of being wrong. Let's just chalk this up as a learning experience, for both of us. TL:DR - I'm leaving. This took a long time to write so if you want to know why, you'll have to read. Sorry...

  • One out of the supposedly 3 million won't affect them unfortunately. I agree with you though

  • Make that 2.. I left before it started to be cool! ;) but I do come on these forums in hope for an apology from bungie but that won't happen as they're probably using my £70 to produce more shit games and lies!

I agree but the game has got me. The loot system is a joke and I actually do feel like it's a chore cause I know for a fact the reward will be blue and not needed. Even if it's an engram I'm not excited cause I know lvl fifty crytarch will make it rustburner. It's a shame you have been driven to this and I hope you find enjoyment in the next game.
