Here's What I Don't Get

If Crucible removes leveling attributes so there's a 'fair playing field' and Iron Banner retained them (to the extent they explained), why are the weapon changes that necessary for outside the Crucible? I can see changing shotgun ranges. I can see reducing the Vex Mythoclast damage. I can see the need to boost scout rifle damage. But I can only see these changes being necessary for the Crucible. Why are they being applied across the board to the PvE side of the game? Isn't there a mechanism for scaling the weapons differently between PvP and PvE? Why is that mechanism not being used to make the necessary changes to keep PvP fair while not changing the PvE side of the game? It sounded like the PvP imbalance was the root of all the changes. I didn't hear of anyone saying that 1-shot kills from a shotgun were OP in PvE. I saw precisely zero complaints about the VM owning Vex in the VoG. Why are these changes across the board for both PvP and PvE? Why not use the leveling mechanism in the Crucible/IB matches to bring those weapons inline for that mode of game play? Perhaps my questions are rhetorical and will never be answered, but I think they are questions that Bungie should answer. If we had the answers, maybe there wouldn't be as much pissing and moaning as there is. I personally am unaffected by the changes as I will adapt and learn. That's what the best Guardians do. We adapt to the situations at hand, we learn from the environment around us, we grow, we change, and we conquer. I'm sure that will continue, regardless of the % at which our arms are adjusted, one way or the other. It would just be nice to know the why of things. I don't see anything lost in Bungie informing the community on the thought process. When they don't, all we're left to conclude is that the 'squeaky knob got the grease' and all that leads to is more squeaking.

  • The problem is how all of the stats are considered. Crucible is equalized by ignoring a weapons damage rating while retaining it's attributes. So for example a weapon with high impact and a high rate of fire with a damage rating of 20 won't do much in a level 28 nightfall strike because it's damage rating is so low; but in the crucible the damage rating is ignored and all weapons have the same base damage so high impact and high rate of fire would make a gun overpowered. In order for a weapon to be changed in PvP the attributes need to be changed not the damage level; meaning no matter how they change a weapon for PvP it will spill into PvE.

    • Why the change well that should be easy to figure out. The vex was suppose to be the hardest gun to get and only received after beating vog on hard. Not starting at atheon and pushing him off. So they didn't want the cheaters to have the op gun.

        •
It would just be nice to know the why of things.
well stated, and very true. it seems bungie never learned the cardinal rule of change management - always start with the "why". Of course in this case, unfortunately a lot of the "why" behind any of this might just come down to "because people were crying in the forums".

          • For some reason when I read that the "squeaky knob gets all the grease" I felt so dirty. But yeah you're right, treat PvE/PvP as different arenas. Because well, they are.

          • I agree as well. Crucible should had been balanced from the start. There should be no reason to nerf weapons unless its a PvE problem.
