The Traveler is not that giant ball in the sky.

Rather that is the vessel in which The Traveler uses to travel around the universe doing it's deeds of enlightening civilizations. This is speculation, but seems pretty legitimate to me from the two grimoire cards that I read. See here: "You have lived as invisibly as possible, flicking from solar system to solar system, making grand plans, overseeing the culturing of civilizations, before leaving in a blink. But you have no recollection of ever wanting worship or even thanks from those blessed by you. But memory is heavy now. It feels like lead and neutronium and electroweak matter fashioned into a moon-sized ball that you must carry as you move. Now, your flight is rapid, your vast mind infected with such dread and toxic doubt that you find yourself afraid of the simple act of thought. And it is your children you must turn to now, in time of need" and then this in the next card: "The knife had a million blades. And you were giant, powerful and swift. But the knife pinned you. Cut your godly flesh away. Very little was left, you are sure, because you feel insignificant now. The hard slick heart of your soul: That is what remains. A body small as a river stone, and just as simple. You picture yourself as a piece of indigestible grit, a nameless nothing hiding among other nameless stones. Perhaps you glitter like a gem, yes. Pride makes you hope so. If only you could see yourself. But you have no eyes. Not the dimmest sense survives. What lives is memory, and what slim portion of these thoughts can you trust? The knife stole much more than your body" I could just be taking the phrasing too literally, but it does seem that there is more to the moon shaped object sitting below our atmosphere. Any thoughts on this?

  • We're the one's who destroyed and are destroying the traveler. How many mentions of the traveler destroying anything? It's power is peace and prosperity. Light. We began to use it for evil after initially accepting it's guidance. Everything since has been a doomed attempt to fix our mistake by repeating it. We use more and more of the traveler to create and upgrade mor and more powerful weapons in an interstellar arms race blindly killing whatever we're told to kill(albeit never by the traveler). The Traveler is just waiting for the evil to burn it's self out before releasing Destiny 2: Peacetalker, which is the exact opposite of destiny: great story, decision making, and awesome chat options, but no loot or gunfights. It's a 10 year plan.

  • Plottwist: you are the traveler, ghost has reanimated your dead body but there weren't enough braincells left to have full memory recollection yadaya future medical recompiling of brain functions bla bla "but what about the exo then?" FUTURE MEDICAL SHIT DON'T QUESTION IT touch the traveler vessel, regain parts of memory 10 years later last Destiny game You remember being the traveler, entire past now flashes by in a cutscene (finally after 10 year we get answers) you become super powerfull and fight your evil sibling better known as the darkness 10 millionth dinklebot phrase about awakening the hive You destroy the darkness just to see the speaker was the villain all along and without darkness there can be no light (bullshit about needing a point of reference) harmony in universe is reestablished new golden age sketchy end cinematic possibly hinting about how the darkness is regaining strength

    • Yes I agree with you on that there is more to the Traveler then as we see it. We only see a giant moon like object simply floating above the city. The only action we have ever witnessed it doing is making it rain on Mars. A planet that currently is little more then a desert planet where all the water is locked in the poles. However the examples you have provided to try and convince me that the Traveler is NOT the giant sphere are not cohesive. You have not pointed out the exact lines that support your reasoning and why. To top this off, most of the Grimore descriptions are prose. They are the poetic musings of individuals who are pondered every possibility but do not narrow down anything into cold fact. They are little more then pretty sounding metaphors which encode the data in relation to the topic in an artistic cipher. They are not to be taken literally. When you describe something you don't understand, you write down everything that comes to mind. The Traveler is non-describable beyond "Big Giant Moon" so metaphors are used to describe the "miracles" it preforms.

i don't think even bungie knows. but they'll probably steal your idea because it is good and plausible. regardless we know that it is alive and that it can "open" http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20141011191600/destinypedia/images/9/98/Destiny_Concept_Art_18b.jpg but again, whatever it is, it is alive. and doesn't even understand it's own purpose.

        • The traveller was supposed to be a bad guy until the head designer left the company and they had to cobble together this trash story to meet deadline.

          • There are some interesting things involving Rasputin, The Darkness, and an unknown "Gardener" on Mars as well. I kind of think the Traveler and the Gardener may be the same. No real reason for that then piecing together vague references from the Grimoire and my belief that in the opening cutscene where the astronauts find the Traveler on Mars is (becomes) The Black Garden.

Let's not speculate on what the traveler may be but instead continue to serve it.

              • There was a mission on the moon where we found a shard of the traveller that the hive were using . I think you are wrong.

                • Needs more ground before true speculation... Maybe after the two expansions?
