Will the future of Destiny be nothing but DLC?

Hey. This is not a flaming or trolling thread, this is a honest question to those who know more than I do about Bungie, or if I could get an official response from Bungie that would be very helpful as well. I like Destiny a lot, it has it's obvious flaws but I'm not particularly worried since it's still a pretty new game. But I am worried about the following: Will the new content be released as DLC? Is this the full game for those who won't pay for expansions? I'm talking about permanent content, not temporary events or anything related. I don't have so much money at my disposal which is why I'm simply asking if in order to acquire Destiny's new content as it gets released I'll have to pay 20 dollars every time. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

  • I see it as expansion packs as well. You get WoW, for example, and then they add more to it. They could GIVE it to you, but they sell you a whole new game to keep playing the old game. *shrug* Some would argue that Destiny alone isn't enough, and that's a fair argument. It feels stilted, the gameplay is limited, and there's no way for a dedicated single player character to get to level 30, you HAVE to interact with other people. I don't know what the next two expansions will offer, really. I'm going to assume more PvP maps, because that's what they did for Halo, and two possibly three more storyline missions, and another Raid location. Still not enough to keep the dedicated single player enthusiast from being ticked off they're stuck at twenty eight, instead of thirty (as I don't believe they'll raise the level cap first DLC), but it's what it is. As you won't be getting a full games disc worth of stuff for your $17.99 or whatever it works out to in price, they're not doing anything differently than what most game companies do when they add to their games, really. Does it suck? A little. Is it going to completely change the game? Hope so? Is it going to be everyone's cup of tea? Aw...No?

As far as I'm aware, they have two paid expansions planned currently. The ones you automatically get by purchasing that Season Pass or by purchasing the Limited Editions. I can't remember the names unfortunately. After those are released, they'll be evaluating the long-term sustainability of the game after the release of each DLC pack. Obviously the "10 Year Plan" is a hope, but it may not be the case at all. Interest may wane and they may not receive enough revenue from DLC sales to make it worth it. That being said, it does have a huge community, so the possibility of it being sustainable for at least a few years is very possible. I highly doubt they'll get to the 10 year mark, but we'll really see how well that's going to go when we see how much content is supplied within the first DLC pack set to release in December. Also, to directly answer your question; New content past what is there currently will be DLC content. They may have small bits available for those who decide not to buy the DLC pack, but the majority of the content, or at least the content that really matters, will be behind that pay-wall.

  • i wish bungie was more transparent with this aspect of the 10 year plan.. why i do enjoy destiny i would rather spend another 60 dollars in a "huge" expansion than 60 towards a destiny 2 or 3... with that said i dont see me buying a destiny 2,3,4 or 5 unless it is a dlc expansion to the core destiny game(mmo style) and i know i am not the only one with this mind set..

    • Expect a robust flow of PAID DLC as well as smaller free event content.

    • if u do not buy all the DLC, you won't be able to play some parts of the game. I am 100% sure this is something they already planned out. money comes first.

    • I think so it's also not dlc it's expansion packs as in they are expanding the Destiny universe. I bought the expansion before the game came out, I would hope that between the long expansion releases that they would flesh the game out a bit more.
