Endgame Content? lol munnies plz

I was thinking about Destiny today. I couldn't get it off my mind at work. So many glaring flaws in a 500 million dollar game. We mostly agree that it's a dumpster fire that is a BLAST to play thanks to snappy and responsive shooter gameplay. But something has been spoiling my Destiny experience as of late. Something has made me begin to question if this game is even worth playing anymore. I'm talking about endgame content. Let me explain. We need to do the raid to get raid armor that will allow us to reach level 30 which is the highest level possible. Okay. I suppose someone somewhere in the bungie office decided at one point that using 'light' past level 20 was a good idea. Here's the thing: If we all eventually reach level 30 (plausible), then won't we all look the EXACT same? We'll all be wearing raid gear. Nevermind the fact that this game already has a serious lack of loot and literally discourages creativity and customization because of the light system. We will literally ALL LOOK THE SAME. But wait, this is when it REALLY takes a turn for the worst. You'll have to open your wallet if you want to keep playing! Yep. When the cap is eventually raised (30 was way too low I don't know who thought that was sufficient) then you'll have to 'purchase' access to the next strike/raid that grants loot capable of boosting your level past 30. This is wrong on so many levels. I'm sure someone will say something like, "no no man don't worry bungie is going to support us for the next 10 years with free content!" No, man. They won't. This is perhaps the biggest money-grab I have seen since Bernie Madolf ripped all those people off in that real estate scam. BUNGIE IS SETTING YOU UP FOR THE BIGGEST SCAM IN VIDEO GAME HISTORY. This game is literally $25 of content that can be recycled for over 100 hours. That's wrong. You cannot possibly defend this. Bungie refuses to clarify there plans for the future and that's because they KNOW we will be PISSED when we all find out that we'll have to pay to continue playing for anything worthwhile. What a joke. The worst part is that I can't even do anything about it. I just have to accept the loss and look forward to Borderlands. Alright that's all that was on my mind. I'm interested to hear people's thoughts on this although my threads always seem to fall into oblivion. P.S. Bungie you guys used to be really good at big team battles. Vehicles, big maps, lots of players, splosions' left and right. What happened to that? Are you going to sell us that later? SUMMARY FOR THOSE NOT INTERESTED IN READING (I'm looking at you, stoners): Everyday it becomes a little easier to accept that Destiny will never be what they told us it would be or what we wanted it to be. I'm trying to just enjoy Destiny for what it is at this point. That's the best anyone can really do with the situation. With that said, I think the most important and immediate course of action should be adding loot variety to this game via some form of free DLC before we all run into a wall of sameness and disappointment. We will never "Become Legend" until our guardians are an extension and reflection of our very own character. Thanks for reading and feel free to comment. I'm going to do my best to respond to as many of you as I can in an attempt to further discussion. IMPORTANT UPDATE: -It has now been about a week or two since getting on to Destiny and playing for any significant amount of time. It's a weird feeling. All of a sudden this game has become a collection of dead content to me. I no longer enjoy stock Destiny. Sort of upsetting to admit. I was hoping on hanging around this game until at least holiday season but that isn't looking very likely at this point. ANOTHER UPDATE: It's funny how literally every single issue that highlighted in this thread has either been untouched or worsened since the new DLC came out. This game is a train wreck. Please don't give this company your money. vote with your wallet.

    • In 10 years if this game survives the next few months even.. the entire -blam!-ing Destiny playerbase consists of zombies.. This game actually made my brain stop working.. - Auto aim - Nada content on repeat. - Brain hurting story content. - No comms. - Sad -blam!-ing armory and customization! The list is too long to finish!

    • Everyone is blaming bungie and yet activision is the problem. Everyone clearly agrees bungie is a name synonymous with quality so they can't understand what's gone wrong. It's simple, the publisher. You know, the ones who feel they need to release a slightly polished version of the same tired FPS every year so add a charge on top for your favourite multiplayer maps from the previous games just so a bunch of half wit children who shouldn't even posses a copy of the game can spend hours hooting at each other to reach a "Prestige" level and start all over again. No, it's not like Bungie to create a hollow, repetitive, cash sink of a game that relies on PvP to carry it but it's pretty much Activisions calling card. If you still feel that bungie are at fault then fine but don't forget to add Activision into the firing line as there's no way they should be getting away unscathed while bungie weathers the shit storm.

      • Yup, I'm rank 29.8 and only require 3 more light to get to 30. Unfortunately in my case that means grinding VoG on Hard Mode because that apparently is the only place in the game where I can find a helmet that surpasses my current one. Today is the first day I didn't feel like Destiny at all, I don't feel like spending six hours playing the same boring raid i've done over a dozen times on normal, only to see how cheap you did it (just make the game harder, throw some harder enemies at you but don't bother giving us true end content) . Right now I'm gonna try and find a group to clear VoG, I hope I get that friggin' helmet soon so I can upgrade that and then just put it in the freezer until they release their first rip off DLC. (Which I got with a voucher, I'm not buying anything from a company that lies that blatantly in the face of it's customers.)

Wow Release (10 years ago?!) 1-60 levels, huge world, 9 classes, with 3 trees each, and two completely seperate factions which had seperate quest lines, both consisting of 4 race, which each* had their own starting zones and cities, with their own lore. Destiny: 1-20 (20+ is just ilvl), 1faction, 3races, which can all be one of 3 classes, with 2 trees each, only one set of quests, and all dungons give the same rewards.... And I like destiny but damn, that content lacks a big one! *only 3 starting zones for the 4 races technically, but they all had origin "zones" up to like level 5, so :P

          • Go play a different game then. This is an MMO or "Shared World" without a subscripton fee. You paid $60 for the game which gives you all you can play for free. Three months later they release DLC for $15, then 3 months later another for $15. Take World of Warcraft now, $60 if you want the game with current content and a month free included. Each additional month is $15. Bungie is cheap compared to that. If they charged $15 a month and gave you "Free Content for 10 years" the next 6 months, you'll pay a total of $120 if the first month was free and DLC didn't cost. Yes, for now, there is only one raid set (another one hidden in game but not awarded yet) but everyone having different exotics to fit their play style on will change the look along with shaders and class items. Using light to level up instead of XP is the best way to control power levels for those grinding a loot cave for hours compared to those actually doing end game content.

As a response to the people comparing destiny to subscription mmo's: Guild wars 2 has no subscriptions, costs about 50$ and is 100x larger than Destiny. The level cap is higher and the endgame is much much harder. You can play that game allot longer without being repetitive then Destiny and it doest require you to pay more than 50$. However... Destiny is just an slightly larger than regular fps game with a loot system en cooperative PVE. Doesnt make it a mmo. They would be smart adding more mmorpg elements since those elements make games like these feel less repetetive and make them feel like they last longer. Bungie will hopefully see those.things that are wrong. They probaly already have, maybe theyre fixing them right now behind the scenes. Things like these take weeks if not months to fix. Bungie not telling you anything is a marketing strategy so that if they fail they can remain silent and if they succeed your feeling of relief will be greater. Those are my thoughts

                  • You do have some valid points but you need to see game for what it is not for what it should be or what we wanted. Its a shooter with looting, with a sprinkle of mmo (very little mmo) and no monthly payments. Gaming is a business first of all and destiny did its content well (no perfect), what would you choose 1) monthly fees to play like other mmo 2) microtransactions 3) or one fee for content I choose #3 every time at least I can look it up before hand if its worth my money. And for looking the same I doubt most people are gonna get lv 30 before the next dlc, because first you need to beat the VOG(not an easy task) and if you do better pray you get an piece of armor, hope its not a repeat, if not you got to wait a week for another chance. If you manage to get 30 (only the most dedicated players) then we have shaders even if their isn't that many. Sorry I think made to long but its just an opinion, im just saying Destiny isn't that bad, just not the perfect game we wanted.

                    • I've been feeling the same way for about a week now. And raid gear being completely based upon chance is literally insane. You should automatically get some sort of currency that will allow you to buy raid gear if you aren't lucky enough to get it from boss loot.

                      • I agree. I am starting to wonder who they payed to get those 180 awards the cd box says this game got. Seriously with this short story and already released that two dlcs will come feels only like a rip off that i won't support more than this. I admit that i have enjoyed playing the game but if i knew this game hade this short story among other things i would not have bought it and just played last of us. And that is such a good game i have bought it twice. So i am willing to pay if i think the game is good enough and i get the feeling that they actually give you the game they made. And not make a complete game just give us a certain procentage off it and withold the rest to sell us at a later date. I don't invite people over for pancakes and give them the the fork, knife and plate and a little bit of jam to eat and tell them that they actually have to buy the pancakes at a later date for them to eat. Isn't it common sense to appriciate your "guests" and fans so they actually like your game enough so they come back when they make new material? (When one make more NEW pancakes) not try to sell them the old one ' s. Nobody will want those when they know they were made the first time cuz they will feel ripped off . And people who still buy those pancakes i would actually say they don't think enough for themselves. Only my opinion and now i want pancakes. ..

                          • I agree wholeheartedly, and was disappointed to see that Iron Banner gear didn't help players reach 30. Also, I hope Bungie releases harder strikes (nightfall playlist) that rewards players with sets of level 30 gear for those that love to play with a tight fire team of 3

                            • Keep in mind that Activision was part of the making of this game not just bungie. If you think about it, Activision screws up every game they get involved with unless they have full control over it. No wonder this game is so incomplete and we're having to pay to continue a story that should have been included.

                              • The game is no different than a lot of MMO's these days really. Same 5-7 dungeons that you do for gear and then redo on hard mode for better quality gear to get you into the raid. Vendors to fill in gaps and give you a chance at raid level gear to help you better complete the raid. Then you move on to hard mode of the raid for the best gear in game. MMO's in the traditional form all have monthly subscription fees which pay for the new content and raids they add between expansions. Destiny does not and so that extra content and raids has to be paid for somehow, thus DLC. I certainly do not work for free, why should we expect someone else to do so? The expansions will be a test of what is to come for this franchise. Bungie could either hit a home run or give more of the same. WoW certainly was not the game it is today upon release. It grew over the last decade and many other MMO's mimic that same model. Even their content becomes stale at times however, take a break and enjoy something else for a while then come back. I have done it several times with WoW and always find I enjoy the game a lot more after a break. Just my opinion. I am sure I will be flamed by some for not agreeing this is the worst game ever and they owe me something.

                                  • I can't think of the method they're using to make their money because I just woke up but I do have something to say. Destiny was meant to be different from other games. The story is constantly evolving and will continue to. If you unlock around 1900 grimoire and actually read them all you'd see that destiny has the opportunity to possibly have more vast lore than halo. If you youtube/google destinys lore there's so much controversy over it and I love it. I'm more excited to see where this goes than any game I've ever played, and the suspense helped add to that. If they choose to charge a monthly fee than so be it they wouldn't be the only ones and honestly if I'm right with where I think destinys going, it'll be the most worthwhile payment I make. So don't put the game down just yet, there's lots of time and it is FAR from over.

That will at least say that you've tried. Wouldn't want to sell it only to find out the expansion just added loads of fun, you know?

                                      • Most other games of this type would charge a monthly fee to play, Destiny doesn't so they are using another method to make their money. I played FFXI on and off for 10 years, was paying around £9 a month the whole time and still had to pay for new content when it was released. This didn't bother me at all because it kept me occupied for so long. I don't mind paying for more content in Destiny, my only complaint is there isn't enough content in the original game. Would like to see some additional content added for free before we start paying for more.

I lurk the forums in hopes that one day Bungie will apologize and fix everything. I really only post to spread awareness of the experience we were robbed from. Or at least try to. It's worth noting that the actual level cap is 20 - the light levels are likely a fudge to extend the limited content When the DLC arrives, the light levels will probably be removed or disabled, and you'll be able to extend your main level beyond 20 to purchase new, more powerful armour and weapons
