Design vs. Fun

I have a question. At what point does the intention of your design outweigh the fun players have with the game? Loot Cave gone. Ascendant Material for dismantle patched. No trading between friends. No matchmaking in Raids (you don't have to nerf the difficulty, but just let us attempt it). Grimoire, nuff said. I get the decisions that are in place. Many choices were made to maintain the integrity of the overall design but so many other features were left out, so many flaws willingly implemented. Bungie, I don't get the same feeling now that I had when you were making Halo. I'm not filled with anticipation for the next game, but worry. I get the feeling that design on this game became too rushed. That the main question was "how can we make this game work right" rather than "how can we make it fun". You've handled the criticism well publicly, and I HAVE had fun playing this game with my best homie. The close calls, the victory against overwhelming odds, beating Phogoth for the first time, the miracle on the Moon (we made a freakin name for a story about our experience in one mission). For every one problem people complain about, I can name something that was done very well. At the same time, for every time I've had fun in this game, I can name one where I felt defeated by your design. Not challenged, but defeated. At what point is design greater than fun?
