HUD Design Flaw...

Hey Bungie, I love the game...I really do...but I don't love the HUD enough to want to see it displayed over everything I watch. Unfortunately I have no choice in the matter. Since the HUD is designed as a bright white with NO transparency at all it has lovingly burned itself into my 65inch Panasonic Plasma. Now, I know that 'burnin' is NOT supposed to be possible...the nicer term for it is 'Image Retention'. Yet, after using my built in Screen Wipe program for hours on end and still seeing that lovely HUD in the lower left corner it feels a lot more like 'burnin' to me. Why not put an option to adjust the transparency of the HUD? Or to dull back the brightness of the white? You guys are clearly an awesome team of game developers, yet it seems like a HUGE oversight to have made the HUD so blazingly bright. Was there NO thought to people who owned a Plasma? I play a ton of games and have never had a problem with any of their HUD's staying on my screen...so I honestly didn't even consider it to be a possibility...but now I have no choice but to realize that your HUD is just way, way, WAY TOO BRIGHT for my TV's own good. I am currently trying out different methods and test patterns suggested online to minimize/get rid of the everlasting HUD you've gifted me with. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE the game...I couldn't help but play more of it after taking a break for 48 hours as I tried different ways (un-sucessfully) to fix my screen. But in the off chance that I actually DO end up restoring my screen to it's PRE-DESTINY glory...could you PLEASE PATCH the game so that the HUD is either less bright, or able to be made transparent so this doesn't happen again? thanks, MrJolly ***UPDATE*** I'm being told by a few engineers where I work that simply running the built in Screen Wipe program for 3-4 hours at night won't solve this kind of a burnin/IR issue. What they say is that I will more than likely need to run the Screen Wipe program for at least 48 hours, quite possibly longer. I work at Technicolor and they have a lot of Panasonic Plasma's here that are the same model I have at home...after looking at the exact same settings I am using they are surprised to find out that anything would have burned in at all...they suggest that I turn down the Contrast ratio for Destiny to try and compensate for the bright white of the HUD. Ultimately I REALLY think that Bungie should fix this with a patch that allows for a transparent HUD. I know they have a lot of complainers on in these forums...and I'm really NOT hating on this game...I love playing it and want to be able to continue to do so WITHOUT fearing for the well being of my TV. I'm hoping permanent damage hasn't already been done. PLEASE BUNGIE...do the right thing and PATCH THE HUD! I'll even let the Cryptarch destroy my Purple Engrams again... *** UPDATE 10/07 *** OK...so I changed some stuff up this weekend and got some better results...here's what I found: MY TV is a Panasonic TC-P65VT60 65inch 1080p 600Hz 3D Smart Plasma HDTV (in case you have the same thing) and it has had the lovely Destiny HUD 'burned in' for the past week...IF you have this TV, then do yourself a favor and set up a Picture Setting to use for games that DOES NOT use the THX Cinema present. The THX Cinema present seems to turn OFF the Pixel Orbiter (even though it says AUTO) and allows your TV to be vulnerable to burnin. I used the Home Theater preset and altered it to look as close to THX as possible WHILE HAVING THE PIXEL ORBITER TURNED ON! I then proceeded to play as normal this weekend (Friday thru Sunday). ANYTIME that I was not actively playing or watching something, I turned on my "Screen Wipe" program (white bar running from left to right over black). My HUD went from VERY VISIBLE over everything on Friday evening to BARLEY VISIBLE over PURE WHITE on Sunday Night. I found that even playing Destiny with the Pixel Orbiter turned on seemed to lessen the burnin effect. Guys, it's not completely gone yet, but I can tell you that THERE IS HOPE! I have not yet purchased the Disney World of Wonders BluRay set for the Pixel Flipper that some people swear is the answer...but I might if I cannot get the last little bit of HUD to go away. I would suggest anyone with this TV to try what I have and see the results for yourself. You don't need to run the "Screen Wipe" constantly...just when you are not currently using the TV to watch/play something. BUNGIE: I still think you REALLY NEED TO PATCH THE GAME to allow for a TRANSPARENT HUD setting for us Plasma users who love your game, but don't want your HUD to be over all our viewing/playing experiences.

  • Really Sorry to hear your story Mr Jolly. I also run a panasonic 65" that is literately 3 months old, it's a ZT65 and cost me a lot. Now I have two burn ins both from Destiny. The first one is the HUD on the lower left and the second one is the circle button with the 'dismiss' text on the lower right. I've been running the screen wipe for at least 10 hours of the last 24hours as soon as I found out then went online to research and found this. Didn't know this game was going to cost me so much and I don't even game that much, I must have a grand total of less than 25hours on destiny. I've thrown every over kind of content at this TV without any issues and needless to say that I'm off this game until there's a patch that shows up that completely removes the HUD. For everybody else that has an expensive plasma, I would avoid Destiny like the plague until this issue is fixed. @Bungie, I hope someone reads this and you guys patch the game. For other players with plasmas, I hope you read this and stay away from the game… there were reports of people having this issue with the beta, it is ridiculous that the Bungie team decided to sit this out and let people mess up their 5k$ pieces of hardware... Cheers,

  • Weird I don't have burn in on my 43" panasonic plasma. Maybe it's a problem with the larger models?
