The problem with Destiny.....

After playing through the 'campaign', multiple strikes, countless playthroughs of each tier of the Vanguard playlist and scattered hours within the Crucible; i have to say i'm bored. The game had so much promise prior to launch, post launch not so much. However, there is still time to take steps towards its evolution. One of the BIGGEST problems with the game is the lack of depth to the story. Why do we need to delve into the grimoire system in order to gain an understanding of the lore? Why could this not have been a part of the game from the beginning? Every SINGLE story mission consists of spawn - travel - shoot - repeat. Apart from a few cut scenes here and there, there is no attachment to the underlying lore or story within the confines of Destiny. No variety between missions besides the different enemy classes. Same gameplay mechanics required in order to pass each mission. Having to replay the same missions over and over again really gets boring after three or four times. The same goes for Crucible/Vanguard/Queen's Wrath bounties which always seem to cycle back after a short period. Add to that the recent leaked footage showing what the two upcoming expansions will be bringing to the game, i'm sure i am not alone in being disappointed that this content wasn't a part of the game from launch. We have 20 campaign missions which do not go into the history of the world Bungie has created nor explain why the hell we're doing what we do in each of the missions. After finishing the campaign, it felt like we were back to square one with no story progression. Nothing changed apart from having our guardians leveled up. The planets are still full of the alien races. The traveler is still in a comatose condition. We don't know who the Exo Hunter is. We don't know what exactly happened between The Darkness and The Traveler. Who or what the hell is The Darkness? How did the Awoken, Humans and Exos come together to coexist? So many unanswered questions and yet it looks as though Bungie have no plans of rectifying any of this. At the very least, we need in-game access to grimoire, otherwise it's meaningless. We need more objective-based Crucible modes which STRESS playing the objective rather than getting kills. We need better dynamic events, not ones which are effectively reskinned existing content e.g. Queen's Wrath. A lot of people expected some sort of story content with the Queen's Wrath event, not simple bounties. We need to be given reasons to go out of our way to purchase new ships and sparrows, which at the moment are dispensable, since they don't have a legitimate reason for upgrading past the basic models we get at the beginning of the story. Most of all, WE NEED A REASON TO KEEP PLAYING AFTER HITTING THE HIGHER RANKS! Once you've completed the campaign, Vanguard playlist, Nightfall strikes, and the Raid. That's pretty much it. What else do you do? At this point, bounties become useless if they hadn't already, and since there is a strong focus on reward based play with the Crucible, i'm thinking that becomes obsolete too.

  • I do agree with you that more content is needed, but honestly I've never had that problem. There's always more bounties, weekly/daily strikes, chests to find, weapons to upgrade, etc. and I've never really been bored. But with that being said that's just my experience and it doesn't help you much. Even after you hit the mark caps you can still rank up and get drops/rewards. And if you haven't gotten the Queen's ship and/or Sniper you can still try for those (although it can be tedious). But I guess the sniper isn't to good if you're level 30 or whatever. The plus side to this is maybe me and you can finally year ourselves away from the game for a bit :p I need to get back to concentrating on work/school, for me when I stopped binge playing right after the release I didn't run out of activities as quick. Just my thoughts, idk if it'll help you though.
