It seems I'm having a very different experience with the game than most...

I'm a software developer in my 30s. I work all day, come home, hit the gym or go for a bike ride, make dinner, and take care of the dog. After dinner, I boot up the PS4, create a party with 4 to 6 of my friends... work friends, childhood friends, friends I've just met... We hop in a PS4 party, then we all load up the game. We battle through all of the game's missions together. We take on the strikes. We take on the queens wrath missions. We're working on building up our light levels. We do patrols and bounties, and we all enter the Crucible together. I am having an absolute blast playing Destiny with my friends. Maybe the difference is that I have a dedicated set of friends whom I can play the game with that make it so much fun, but reading through this board is very interesting to me. It seems that many of the people writing here are having a very different experience than I am having. Is it simply because I'm playing with my friends that I find what the developers at Bungie have given us so entertaining?

  • I have a similar background to you. Software architect in my 30s. Work from home all day, don't hit the gym that often, make dinner, and take care of the three dogs. I'll boot up the PS4 after the night has calmed down, or starting about 4a on the weekends - as I don't sleep much in my "old age". But, our stories diverge at that point. I tend to play solo, now doing bounties, patrol missions, and strikes. However, I enjoy the game immensely, still. Am probably going to start a new character soon, and will enjoy every minute of that, too. Am not big into the PvP aspects of the game - just never has been my preference. Yes, I suck at it - and am not ashamed of that. Logically speaking, I find little enjoyment in real people randomly jumping up and down in place half the time. No intent on insulting anyone; if that is what you like, good on you. What I find great about Destiny is the upside that tends to get glossed over by people - namely, the controls are phenomenal, and it plays like a dream. Sure the story is thin, and I am sure that it will improve with time. Don't particular care that I will have to purchase DLC, either. At the end of the day, it comes down to if I feel I've gotten my money's worth in entertainment value, and that answer is that I certainly have. That is not a negative reflection on me, or on those who feel contrary to that. As a software industry professional, I am guessing that you may look at it the same way I do. And that is how Destiny is an awesome framework and platform. I see very little in the game that cannot be addressed by updates, expansions, and downloadable content. In my eyes, I see it as something that will end up in the console frequently, for a long time to come. Doesn't get said enough - but kudos to Bungie. There is no way that they will ever make everyone happy. Sales figures are enough to keep this game going for a while, I assume. And, on top of that, if they do monitor the feedback of the community, it will only help to improve the game in its current iterations, and subsequent versions. I tend to lurk on here since I've gotten the game, more than anything else. No problem with people voicing concern - to each his/her own. Guess that us older "fogies" just do not want to get caught up in the hostility.
