Why are teammates so terrible in the Crucible?

Since launch, the majority of my time spent playing the Crucible without a fireteam has been terrible. Here are some examples why... 1. Control - Usually when I play this game mode, I get teammates who completely ignore it's concept. All you need to do is capture two of the three flags, defend them, and get kills while doing so. It is very simple. However, the people I get teamed up with will only capture the first flag at the start of the game, and then run off to focus on kills up until the end of the game. The second and third flags are completely ignored. This lets the other team get the majority of the flags and eventually win the match. Why search for a game of Control when you could just play Clash!? 2. Teammates - Issues with teammates in general include: - People who are not playing. - Those who run away from situations where we would have the advantage. Such as 2 on 1 situations. - Players that hide in corners and don't produce for the team. I could go on, but I'm sure my point has been made. It could boil down to the possibility that my teammates are usually focused on their kill/death ratios rather than helping out to get wins. Or, my luck could just be bad....who knows. I'd like to know if others are having the same experiences that I am, or even different ones. Please comment and let me know. Thanks for reading!

  • ugh all day today! 4 hrs clash trying out new weapons. Just trying to get better at pvp. my k/d always comes out positive but lost like 30 games straight. i think bungie black listed me or something. and why do noobs(everyone in my team) spread away from each other rather than trying to gang up on enemies together? and 1 last thing why are people able to push you? like im absolute and team mates around a corner drag me out of -blam!-ing cover

  • I am an average Crucible player, but when I have teammates that go 1 kill and 20 deaths I just can't win. Why even play Crucible if you can't at least go even? Work on your aim in pve then jump back into pvp.

    • Destiny PvP is my first experience with that game mode. I enjoy it, but am terrible atm! (you've probably had the misfortune of being saddled with me on the team if you're on Xbox360 lol) However, I understand the principle of Control mode and am learning more and more with each match in the other modes...I can see the day when I'll be quite adequate, and no match gets less than my best effort (albeit subpar at the moment) hopefuly I'm not the only "n00b PvP" player out there really trying to improve and the overall random playerbase will improve as Destiny's lifespan continues!

        • Please, for the love of any deity you worship, do not play skirmish on your own. There are people who continuously sprint towards the entire enemy team by themselves with the delusion that they will come out alive. Not only that, there are people who will run into a 2v1 situation and get killed rather than reviving their teammates and making the fight an even one.

          • The crucible is just so bad there's no major reason to play and not screw around. If some guy tries shooting at me, you're damn right I'm going to stand there and do the robot. There's just no incentive unless you have to complete an exotic bounty or get an achievement.

              • I think it's the luck of the draw mate. I usually queue solo and have run into the situations as you. Losing is annoying but I usually tend to enjoy myself. If it gets too frustrating I take a break and do something else. Here's to hoping it improves and all the best

I'm only going to engage when I have no choice or feel like I personally have the advantage, mainly because I'm likely the one who is going to die in that 2v1 encounter whereas my team mate will emerge with my kill.

                • Depends on your attitude. I'm only rank one still, so of course I want to win so I can rank up faster. But I also just want to have fun. I don't care about the loot, although it's nice to get it. Why can't we be friends (and have fun)?

Sounds to me like you don't understand how points are scored in Control. "Control is both Team Deathmatch and Domination at the same time. You may score points upon the initial capture, but you will NOT collect points for simply holding an objective. For each task you complete that is worth a point, your score accumulated will include how many flags your team owns at that moment as part of your scoring total. A kill is typically worth 100 points. If I own two flags, my kill will be worth 100 for the kill and 100 points more, 100 for each flag I held at the time of the kill. You will pick up more points as a team for two people baring down on one kill, as the second player would pick up 50 points for your team on the assist as well. A head shot will grab another few points.""Working a match in Control does not mean that you have to capture the flag if your team doesn’t die. That’s the most important aspect of Control when it comes down to it – not dying." from some website. K/D is all that matters. KILL=OFFENSE DYING=DEFENSE. If you kill and don't die all you do is score, but if you DIE YOU GIVE THEM POINTS.

                  • The bounties and random loot lure all the pve nerds into crucible. Remove both things and average skill level will skyrocket. BTW you realize that control is not domination right? It's entirely about k/d ratio and the capture points are irrelevant.

                    • Crucible should be 5 minute matches. I get bored after 3 minutes and just spin around in circles firing. Usually ended up with a strange coin for my troubles.

                    • To be fair, this happens in pretty much every single multiplayer game that I know of. Some random people are exceptionally good, most are not.

                      • I hear ya. Control is my go to game mode just because of my skill level. I'm not an efficient gunner and tend to miss the first few shots. But with Control, I can help immensely by making sure we hold at least two areas. Then my teammates can focus on killing. The problem with control is that you absolutely do not need to control any areas to win. There are examples all over YouTube. Everyone just wants to kill and if you're good at it, the actual objective becomes irrelevant. Bungie even recognized this by having an "Objectively Correct" medal for capturing the most points, hoping it would encourage players to do so. But the even bigger problem is, of course, the reward system. It literally, and yes I mean literally, does not matter what you do in the game. You have just as good of a chance of getting good rewards as the guy with a 4.0 K/D. Needs fixing.
