New player...quick question...multiplayer
Alrighty, so I posted this last night and it magically disappeared for some reason so I never got my answers.
Anywhoo, so I just picked this jaunt up and it seems pretty great so far, only had a few hours into it last night, Im roughly level 4, due to re rolling the classes to see what felt good.
However, here is my big thing, where the hell are all the other players? Im really lost on how it all works in Destiny apparently so I need someone to explain it in idiot terms.
For example, I notice in the tower, I go to "roster" and only ever see like 2 maybe 3 guys, who are all way above my level, which IMO makes them useless to party with me when Im working on story mode. I mean where are the guys my level who would want to party up and slay some bodies?
So I figure, what the hell, Ill just go do it myself, I start my story, next thing I know, I see like 2 other random level 20+ guys just blazing through all the enemies Im trying to kill working on my story mode.
How the hell does all this work? I dont think Im understanding how the multiplayer/open world/whatever you wanna call it works.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the responses. Now if you dont mind, I also noticed something else I didnt know what was going on last night. In one of those "public areas" I guess, there were 3 guys running around and it said something about some sort of event happening, and then it popped up talking about help everyone defeat 3 waves within a time limit. What is all this? It didnt seem like I had to be in a fireteam with these other guys, as we were all just running around killing the waves of enemies.

Welcome to the game! I'm not sure how the Tower is designed, but there's a shared area of each planet where you will do missions while seeing others most likely. The shared areas are broken into hidden servers where only a few people (maybe 5-15?) are sent, and when you get into the actual objective of your story, you are typically removed from the shared area and entered into your own zone with your fireteam, if you are playing with others. PvP and Strikes (with the exception of the more difficult ones requiring more teamwork and communication) place you in matchmaking where you are evaluated and placed with others. Just FYI, you'll be at a disadvantage to some degree just because of your subclass progress and weapons, but your damage and health are brought up to par when you enter pvp. As a level 3, I managed a mid-range score against a team of 20+ Happy hunting!

I'm pretty sure each 'zone' can have up to 16 people occupy it. There may be 1000s of people in the tower but you will only see 16 maximum. As for story, there is a 'public' bubble and 'private' bubble. While in the public section, you will encounter other players. But when the story/strike takes you into a darkness area, you move to the private bubble. So even if there were guardians in that section you wouldn't see them unless they were in your fireteam. People have smashed this game out since day 1. This is why everyone is so much higher level. Progress to 20 is pretty easy to accomplish solo. Then the fun begins... Happy trails!

3 RepliesI'm not sure about how the tower works but the rest of the game works in zones which will group you with up to 12 random people. If you're level four all the level twenties you're seeing in the story are probable farming the loot cave there (if you don't know what that is yet you'll find out soon, there's about 1,000 post on it). But as far as the people you find it's all luck like the rest of the game. If you really wanted a new group of randoms all you have to do is leave and then re enter the zone. I'm not sure where the boundaries are though. Hope this helps!
