An Idea for Destiny: Space Combat

I think I'm not alone when I say that I wish we could use our ships for something other than looking pretty in this game's equivalent of loading screens. There is a lot of space in between Earth, Venus, and Mars. Enemy ships are probably moving around to and fro all the time, like the Winter Kell's Ketch. What I'd like to see is the space in between planets filled with an option to "Patrol Space", wherein you can pilot your ship and engage Fallen ships in low Earth orbit, mine resources for the City from space debris, or chart out certain sectors of space. You could also probably put some Strike missions in there. Form up a squadron and perform a strike against a Fallen Ketch, or some sort of space-borne Vex menace. I'm sure some of us remember looking forward to space combat right before Halo: Reach came out. That was a disappointment. But, I really think it could work well in a game like this. Seeing games like Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen only strengthen my desire to have a little more freedom, in a game about space. My Regulus looks like a proper star-fighter anyhow, and I'd love to send some fallen ships burning up on re-entry, as a nice little light-show to everyone back at the Tower. Additionally, that would add some more functionality to the Shipwright. If the ships are weaponized, you would need an individual interface for your ship, as you have with your Guardian, wherein you equip armors, equipment, and ship weapons, which could likewise be modified and upgraded. I imagine certain ships would be better at performing certain roles as well. I am a Hunter, so my Regulus would likely be a highly agile dogfighter with some long-range weaponry, good at going gun-to-gun with small fast-attack craft. My friend is a Titan. His ship, the "Rope to Heaven", reflects the Guardian that pilots it, in appearance. That being said, his ship would probably be more of a brawler. Heavy weaponry meant to hit and neutralize key modules of larger enemy ships. Multi-target missile salvos for crowd control, that sort of thing. The idea almost seems so fitting that it makes me wonder if they plan to do this after all. It makes perfect sense that this would be implemented at some point. Now, it seems like a simple concept, but implementing something like this would be a really massive undertaking. And while I'm not saying I expect it, or demand it, I am saying that something like that would be very, very nice. There are a lot of arguments going on about how the game is incomplete, and it has flaws and "we were lied to", and it was overhyped, but these things can be said about nearly every other game out there right now, I reckon. And I think it's because of these games that such discussions are taking place. Bungie made Halo. And Halo is one of the greatest things ever. But, that is a debate for another time. What I'm saying is, I think that it is far too soon to be judging Destiny. It hasn't even been out for a month, yet. And it's still got a long way to go. Bungie have delivered countless hours of video game enjoyment to me over the past decade, and my enjoyment continues with Destiny. I have faith in them that they won't muck this up. This isn't Rockstar or EA we're talking about, here.
