Cryptarch Level & End Game Content

The Cryptarch - What is the purpose of his level? I've heard lots of rumours like, the higher is level the better chance you have at him decoding Engrams into better stuff, but i have him at level 18, and still he robs me blind., out of about 8 legendary Engram's today, he's actually converted one to a Legendary Rocket launcher, which I don't need (i already have an exotic and another legendary rocket launcher). I wouldn't mind so much with getting Dupe or Off Class legendary items, because i can dismantle them for Ascendant Shards/Energy to upgrade my other stuff, but the guy is still straight up robbing me, giving me Rare and Uncommon items 95% of the time, even at such a high level. Spent the last 4 days just grinding away trying to get Engrams, turned in hundreds, and nothing of use. There's zero purpose to me doing strikes as every single drop is the same low level armour or weapons, engrams always convert into the same low level junk, and in he rare case i do get a legendary, 9 times out of 10 it is converted to the same low level junk. Vanguard Marks 100 Cap is obtainable in a couple of hours, there's no matchmaking on the harder dailies or weeklys, and with the lack of Voice Comm's finding people to play them with is a long and boring process (seriously, add matchmaking to these things). Right now all I need is a Legendary helmet to complete my set, as they are 120 vanguard marks and the cap is set to 100, it's going to take me 2 weeks to buy one, so that gives me a couple of hours a week where I have something to aim for (getting the marks) I'm not interested in the crucible, i played alot of the Beta and some of the launch crucible and it just doesn't interest me, for the most part you run around and you and the enemy shotgun each other or somebody is killed with a special. that got boring real quick. I'm genuinely stuck and have no idea what to do, farming is boring, it's no fun and the pay off, well, there basically isn't one. other than the occasional legendary item for hours of mindlessly emptying thousands of rounds of ammo into a cave. World Events, I fail to see the point in these, often i get 25 glimmer for completing them, and never anything lower than a "Gold Tier", if i want 25 glimmer I can go kill one of the many low level "Ultra" enemies scattered around. Occasionally i will get an ascendant shard/energy. Great, but other than that there is basically no reward for taking part in these? this brings me on to... Glimmer. Capped at 25,000. There is literally no point in this currency at all come end game, other than the odd 250, 750, 950 upgrades to armour and weapons. Vendors become obsolete, in fact, I didn't even buy anything off them at low level during the story mode because everything they sell is also dropped in abundance by trash mobs. The recently released Raid was a great addition and I'm certainly looking forward to more of these events (not so much the crucible events). I've had one attempt at the raid with a friend and 4 random's, we did pretty well, cleared the first boss, got myself some nice raid gauntlets, then didn't bother to go any further, the raid is obviously created for hard core clans to enjoy, and, well, I have a job and can't spend 6 hours beating the thing so hopefully more content is coming for the "regular" players, and I'm sure it is. This however leads me back to my dilemma of having nothing to do. 20% of my current gameplay involves me dancing with random's in the Tower, and it's fun. It's fun, but it's not a game. The only other "MMO" type game I've ever played in the past was 'Star Wars: The Old Republic' and the planets and content for that game was unbelievably huge, so maybe this skews my expectations a bit from Destiny, but right now there is zero variance in any of the armour drops, same thing every time, all armour is basically the same (at a certain level) with different "special upgrades" and the same applies to weapons. There are no maps of the planets you are on, so exploration is harder than it should be and levelling up past 24 is based on nothing but pure luck. All that negativity aside, I think Destiny is a beautiful game and it's done an amazing job at building these stunning environments to play in, the controls are brilliant, and when you actually have something to aim for, it's a ton of fun. Don't think I'm hating on the game, far from it, I want a reason to keep playing and i just haven't found it yet. So, what is everybody else doing End Game? have you found something other than Engram Farming? Found ways to spend your Glimmer?

  • I definitely can see what you're saying, and I agree with pretty much everything. Glimmer is pretty much useless, so it makes more sense to go for marks, but the weekly cap on marks means that once you hit the cap, there isn't really much reason to play the game for the rest of the week unless you play Crucible or do raids. Alas, the only friend of mine that has the game on the same console as me is never online, so I'll never get to experience the hardcore goodness that I hear raids are (for the time being, at least). Crucible isn't bad, but I can only take so much turning a corner and getting shotgunned before I start to get a bit frustrated. Ironically, legendary engrams usually give me rares, and both of my legendary armour pieces came from rare engrams. That said, I really love Destiny and think it is fun, but I bet it's even better when you don't play literally every non-matchmaking aspect of the game solo.
