What's up with Warlocks?

Is it just me?

Or is this actually an issue?

Soooo, can someone tell me why the Warlock class is by far the worst class to play as in PvP? In anything other than PvP, Warlocks are pretty cool and are fun to play as, but as soon as you go to the Crucible, you get demolished by the other two classes. Not the fastest or the strongest I always seem to be at a disadvantage to the agility of the Hunters, or the brute strength of the Titans. No matter how much I tinker with my class or my playstyle the other classes' abilities just seem waaaay better than mine. Yeah, the Nova Bomb is cool, but it could still miss even with the tracker on (I've seen and experienced it happen plenty of times), and unless you run into some poor, unfortunate soul who doesn't know how to stay away from or walk out of the Vortex effect you're more likely to get, maybe, 1-3 kills. Hell, the AI in the story knows not to walk through it so what makes you think a human will? Radiance seems like a waste because you can only throw slightly more powerful grenades and can almost continuously use Scorch. That theoretically sounds really cool, but it actuality it sucks. Even though the melee is ranged, you still have to be relatively close to hit someone with it (and if it's not Scorch or a Energy Drain melee, it's going to take two hits) and no one just stands there and lets you hit them so you're taking massive damage (even with Radiant Skin) and will eventually die very quickly unless you get someone with bad reaction time or has their back turned. You could possibly get a kill with the grenade, but unless that unfortunate soul walks into it or you get a stick, Warlock grenades don't kill. People just walk away from so many of my grenades (even with burn damage) I'm surprised when one of them actually gets a kill. I've died a lot while trying to use either of my supers, but it's so damn difficult to kill a Titan or Hunter while they use theirs. I don't know exactly if they do or don't get a shield when they use their supers but it sure feels like it and I know that I don't when I use mine. The Titans are supposed to be strong, but to survive a rocket blast while doing a super? Or one hit melee me at full health? The Hunters are supposed to be agile, but to be taking headshots from a distance away from me to instantly killing me up close by teleporting with a blink strike? Or surviving a special melee and two shotgun blasts in Bladedancer and still killing me and other teammates? Or taking basically no damage and will definitely kill at least 3 enemies with the no-chance-in-hell-you're-getting-away-from-this, insta-kill pistol (I've seen 2 people miss one shot each, and they were both very low level. I bet they've never missed again). Oh, and I almost forgot the should be patented " hide in the corner or by a door while cloaked and not show up on the radar until after someone runs by me and I pwn them with my vast arsenal of abilities, or a shotgun" technique. What do the Warlocks specialize in though? Recovery? Well, you can really recover if you couldn't take enough damage in the first place, or be quick enough to get out of gunfights sooo... yeah. It's almost like Warlocks only have a fair chance against other Warlocks. Before I even started typing this I thought maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm just not good enough at the game or at using this character. Then I remembered that I'm not the only one complaining about it, and there is no way that we all suck. A vast majority of my friends and randoms that I meet during raids, strikes, and other missions have the same grievances. I don't want to say that the other classes are overpowered, but the Warlock is definitely yields to the other classes. I'm not asking for Warlocks to get a super-buff and be crazy OP like the Hunters are right now, all I'm asking for is a balance between all of the classes so that no one class can easily prevail over another. I know the game is only in it's second week and everything takes time, but I know a lot of people who can't stand the Crucible because of the class balancing. But even with all of my complaints I still play it because this game is fun and is only going to get better, especially if Bungie listens to community feedback (plus I gotta get these bounties done).

  • I play a lock and my biggest issue right bnow is that the super can clip a piece of the environment even if the VERY edge of the noval bomb touches. you can have a clear line to a target but if part of your body is behind a corner or pillar or something, the bomb will just hit it and BOOM wasted super. If my arm reaches around the corner, the bomb should not be affected. pisses me off.

    • LOL. Warlock is PERFECTLY fine as a class in PvP, if you don't have skill you will be bad with it as it does have the lowest armor. But the #1 FFA player in the world is a warlock and got on like a 160 winsteak and still going there is no problem with the class. It's just you.

    • Sunsinger and that perk that gives you an over shield >_> can tell you how many licks have bested me with that just when I thought they were going to die. Check you stat allocations for armor recovery and agility. High recovery is awesome in pvp.

      • I think Voidwalkers are a little weak in PVP, Sunsingers are legit though. Probably because the Voidwalker grenades are weaker (can't 1 hit kill like sunsinger and hunters) and their melee simply increases reload speed or heals ONLY if the melee charge is off cooldown and the hit is a kill. Sunsingers get overshields for simply tapping someone, and their grenades are great. Voidwalker special is cool, but they don't get a shield bonus like Strikers or Bladedancers, making them easier to stop. Also, the attack is no better really that strikers, blade dancers, or gunslingers.

        • I use sunsinger for pvp, my r1 gives me a shield and my shotgun does the rest, the sun bomb grenade is incredibly op also the self res gives you a second chance for revenge

        • Most of the successful Warlocks use Sunsinger, but voidwalker is still good. I play hunter so this is just my observations from crucible. From what i can tell the best way to take advantage of your enhanced recovery skills it to become a midrange fighter, use scout and assault rifles from medium range near cover. When you take damage and were unsuccessful in killing the other guy bob/weave near cover (corner, piller, etc) for 1-2 secs come back at at full strength and finish off the hunters/titans. I get killed like this all the time on hunter since our recovery is shit.

            • I run warlock and dominate a good amount of the time. I try to stick to rumble or skirmish as the larger maps tend to have me getting killed every spawn. As a matter of fact in skirmish I usually play with two other warlocks and as long as we communicate we win 90%of our matches. They're great for locking down enemy ghosts for responding and shutting down entrances and exits to any room.

            • Guys, I'm not a scrub. I know how to play the game. A lot of your input has been helpful, and there was some things I was doing that got in the way of my own success. But, to everyone else who don't have shit else to do with their day but get on forums, complain just as much or even more than I did, then sling around derogatory terms to myself or anyone else in the comments: calm the -blam!- down, shut the -blam!- up, and go back to playing your game. The grass always looks greener on the other side. I haven't played as a Titan or a Hunter yet so I wouldn't know what it feels like to play against a Warlock as one of those classes. I do know how it feels to be a Warlock and go against the other classes though and the post listed everything I've personally been through, stuff my friends told me, and what I've seen from my teammates & my opponents in PvP. Why the hell would I come on a forum and subjugate myself to bullshit by lying? All I wanted to know is if the things that are happening to me happen for other people as well.

            • -first grenade, use it to lock down areas and force ppl to go where you want them to -use increased boost to have a good getaway glide, do not stay in glide use it as a double jump and press X/A in the air to cancel (or if you can master blink use that) -regular nova bomb works best -melee restores health -nova tracks enemies -focus all training in toughness -have nova bomb and grenade last longer Do not rush, play areas smart and use grenades to your advantage. Learning to slide efficiently helps with close quarters. Back up other team members and always use your super to wipe control points or large grouped enemies/vehicles and do not use it as a normal kill.

Everyone has got there own opinions. Some like magic, some like going full out blazing with guns and some like staying back and shooting heads off. Everyone has there favourite and lest favourite class. By the way you are complaining, YOU ARE DEFINITELY NOT THE MAGIC TYPE! It seems maybe you are a Hunter kinda person.

            • In all honesty I feel like the warlock is the most balanced class it doesn't really excel at anything but if used properly can get pretty OP I mean you guys can self revive I don't kno the specifics or the cool down but that in itself is pretty sweet not to mention the fact that your grenades are by far the strongest PvP or PvE. I guess the only downside of the warlock would be the class item arm bands are pretty lame but that's jus my opinion everything else when used properly adds up to trouble for titans hunters and the fallen.

            • It's just you. Let's start with void. I world actually call this the best spec, assuming you're really good and I'm not talking about capping flags, not even head shots. A death by not only your melee, but your grenades and super can grant you full health. Assuming you spec for it. But for the average bad@$% or even Joe, Sunsinger can by far compete with any hunter spec and give a shield titan a run for his flag control. The super of the SS lock reduces the cooldown and effectiveness of your melee, which is a dot (damage over time), and your grenades. Now let me explain why this is pretty OP. You can throw a grenade every 2 seconds, for up to 6-10 seconds. Now you can't spam this, but you might as well shoot your target while he's dotted and throw a grenade to the 2nd target (assuming there are multiple) to control the area. You can take down entire teams with this. Each melee kill offers a shield. Every grenade leaves a dot. If you wanna push it, increase your speed. Gt Lazergreen. Hmu

              • I have had sunsingers wreck me before and I'm a Blade dancing hunter! Its about timing and a gun/ability ratio. Even if your abilities might not be the best you still have 3 functioning weapons to shoot (providing you have ammo for them all)

I'm far from an expert at shooting games, I've played a lot of them but not for a long time. When in PVP I've been playing as a warlock with the hand cannon and my k/d is still >1. I don't see there being any specific advantage to any of the classes. A good player will play well in any class and a poor player will get owned in any class. I fall between the two and am still holding my own.

              • I mean, I do great as a voidwalker, but that has nothing to do with exclusive abilities. I feel like Sunsingers are pretty good all around, but Voidwalkers have nothing but a weaker version of the Titan's "striker" special. Other than that, they are generally the weakest of the classes in terms of PVP, maybe onyl comparible to Defenders in non-objective gametypes. But, I may just be biased as I play a voidwalker myself. Still, I feel hunters are certaintly the strongest in PVP, and it seems like Titans with their instant kill melee's and super shield specials follow in second.

                • I already said it could be me. I'm not the best at any PvP game and I know that. My stats may or may not show it, but for the majority of the time I feel like I do just fine in PvP. It could be that I sometimes overplay the objective to win because some assholes, like some of you in the comment section, are more worried about your -blam!-ing K/D than winning. Normally, when I fall back, I do better, but that can be true for any class. I don't know what type of lobbies you all get into but damn near every game I play there's probably on 2 may 3 warlocks there including myself. The other team usually consists of at least 2 Titans and the rest are Hunters. And for those complaining about Nova shit, unless you get hit by it directly YOU CAN OBVIOUSLY SEE THE SHIT ON THE DAMN MAP AND AVOID IT DUMBASS. If it's not the super, you still might have a chance to jump out of that grenade, I've done it enough times to know.
