Lets talk Endgame Builds - Titans

So like most of you I'm grinding/farming my face off and praising the RNG gods when a Purple or lvl 20 Blue with +Light on it actually drops. What I haven't been able to do though is to put a specific min/max emphasis on my build because I'm taking what I can get. HOWEVER, you best believe before I fork out Faction Marks I want to have a plan. So that being said...a few questions: - Is it possible to cap 2 stats at 100% once you evolve gear? (I know light level gear gains additional light when you upgrade it) - What stats are people shooting for with Titans? I see the benefit of all three honestly as I want BOTH sub classes to be viable. (Ex. Striker Titans have access to Flashbang which is one of, if not the only , hard stun AoE powers in the game so with them Discipline makes sense. With Defender Titans though, Strength makes more sense since keeping up Barrier shield with punches is key to face tanking enemy threat). - What Purple / Exotic weapons do you guys recommend? I'm leaning towards Auto Rifle / Fusion Rifle atm. Thanks for any and all feedback. PS. Lets have more threads like this, actually discussing aspects of the game, instead of going all emo about farming, failed expectations, etc. TL;DR - Titan questions: Build choices? Gear choices? Weapon choices? Stop the hate, start the overanalytical min/max nerd talk. Discuss.

As a Defender working his way up to end game gear I have determined that my build "Ironclad" would really benefit most of all from the Strength and Intellect Stats provided by my chosen faction "New Monarchy" gear. Basically would focus on making the Defender as unkillable as possible. Magnetic Grenade// Spike Grenade Increased Height// Catapult Blessing of Light Unbreakable Titan Codex I Bastion Titan Codex IV Illuminated Basically the deal is to create a build that focuses on reaping the benefits of the Disintegrate and the Force Barrier as well as recharging my Ward of Dawn as rapidly as possible. While active all benefits for myself and my party should be focused on extending the endurance of the guardian maximising armour and recharge values, coupling those with the Unbreakable recharging Force Barrier, and an Illuminated Ward. Basically I should be the damage control unit of the team. I cannot be a medic in proper but what I can do is provide a Bastion position where all players can recharge their base shields as well as be buffed by another level of shielding. On a weapons Focus I will always stick with my Scout//Auto Rifle - Solid Range on the Scout Rifle with nice RoF, manageable recoil, fair damage per shot Shotgun - ....... do I really need to say anything? Missile Launcher - Cause Rocketry is for the pro's... I mean.... S'plosions.

  • You can look at my gear on my profile. I'm mostly always running defender and I grabbed the str/disc gear, gear that speeds up melee refresh when you grenade kill and speeds up grenade refresh when you melee kill. I have increased melee speed and my chest piece gives me 2 grenades. I spec into creating orbs of light when I melee kill, heavy weapon kill, and when ward of dawn takes damage(teammates will love you for this) and both str and disc are above 85% I think, without all my gear being I'll maxed out so I imagine you could get them both at 100%. I didn't grab any intellect gear because my super recharges fast enough, based off me creating orbs of light for teammates, them supering and creating orbs immediately after, and that recharges me. Most of the time in pve I actually have a full charge when my other bubble is still active.

  • Take it from a pro Titan: Helm of innermost light = best striker helmet Fusion rifles = da bomb Pulse rifle =PvE Auto rifle/shotgun= pvp Striker= flashbang, catapult, shockwave, amplify, transfusion, codex 1 + 5, shoulder charge. The helm grants two bonus abilities to your special. It's unreal. As for defender I'm currently in the work.

    • Your exotic armor should definitly be the helmet there is a striker specific and a defender specific that make them both awesome as -blam!- The helm of inmost light as the strikers helm gives you death from above and the perk that makes you harder to kill while supering put aftermath as your fist of havok modifier and you can superman slam across the map which is great for pvp control point clearing and if your in a tight spot in pve you can just fly away super fast with a damage resistance buff Also the bad-assery that could be you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSaKJD8p9Jw as for the helm of saint-14 it blinds enemys that enter your ward of dawn which has its obvious benefits in pve for those people who like to come into your personal space bubble and violate your face with a shotgun essentially you can use any of the armor modifiers for the ward of dawn weapons of light wouldnt be all that great since they can still blindly melee (again its personal space so blind melee is easy) and for pve put it outside of a spawn cave during one of those defense parts of a strike and welcome to fight club only your mike tyson in mike tysons punch out and they are mr magoo

    • I am a striker titan that focuses on that gorgeous discipline stat Grenade the flashbang grenade is the most powerful grenade a striker titan has to offer, people may say it is lightning grenade that does more damage but this isn't true unless you play it in the perfect situation as enemies are not dumb and move out of the AoE thus the full benefit doesn't get put into play. The flash bang does a solid amount of damage plus disorientates enemies for a moderate amount of time. Just such a beast grenade when used tactically Jump I use increased height as I always seek the higher ground, and this allows me to do just that. Shockwave I have the helm that grants death from above and aftermath isn't a viable option in my eyes unless you want to shut off an area. Amplify Moar suppaarr! Transfusion When I do solo play in hard areas I always keep 1-2 enemies at low health for when I need quick healing I will seek these guys out and punch 'em right in the face giving me that nice quick healing, ahhhh yeaahhhh (this skill is absolutely amazing, just practice using it and try keeping an enemy low on health in hectic areas to gain it's full benefit) Also works very well with shoulder charge Shoulder Charge Beast ability, when you have your SF up you can dish out some serious damage to one enemy, just charge them with this then smack them with SF. Use tactically to gain those Transfusions Codex Codex 1 Codex V Gimme that regen ahhhh yeahhh

      • I am a titan defender my skill choices are as follows: Magnetic grenade or suppressor Grenade Lift with increased control Ward of dawn with Blessing of light Disintegrate with unbreakable Titan Codex 1 Bastion Titan codex 5 Illuminated I feel these skills maximize my use tn the stirkes and raids i have been in. The stats i aim for are intellect and strength. Reason for these 2 are: Intellect reduces the cooldown time of ward of dawn, of course making it able to use more often. strength which reduces the cooldown time for disintegrate. Therefore your survivablity for you and you team is increased. Now i really am a sucker for auto rifles, Fushion or shotgun, I love my Heavy machine gun.

        • I go with new monarchy gear which has strength and intellect for my defender. I have little discipline but I don't find myself needing a grenade and not having one. The flash bang is a good feature but I run defender always so I have me sights on getting the Helm of saint-14 which blinds enemies that enter the ward of dawn.

          • So much good info in this thread. Really appreciate it guys, thanks. Another question though. Xur's Exotic this week is the Chest piece Crest of Aplha Lupi? Is it worth picking up or should I save my coins? It doesn't seem to have a special perk or anything.

I would like to know what is the advantage of specking into any combination involving disc, as a Defender? Really the grenades that we have dont serve a purpose in conjuction with our class abilites. I mean really does anyone even know what the Defender's "suppression" grenade does?

              • Honestly, I don't really use my super for either subclass all that much. I like to save them for when I really need them. I mostly play PvE, so there's always cannon fodder to charge it, but my vanguard gear almost maxes out Discipline and Strength, meaning I can use those repeatedly. Force shield is really nice for surviving melee engagements, but having all three balanced would allow you more freedom. It's all up to your play-style.

I am a defender titan and so far I thought going Int. Str. would be best. However when doing the raid it became apparent that melee wasnt an option. So im a bit confused on what to do at this point. For the most part my actual build is primarly a orb generating one.

Orb Generator Build. Intel/Strength build. Helmet - Vanguard Chest - Vanguard Gauntlets - No Back Up Plans Boots - New Monarchy (based off the stats that I can see at the vendors) Special Weapon - Pocket Infinity Orb generator playstyle involves a focus on close combat and this loadout I feel has great overall synergy with what I am trying to achieve. The build favours more towards strength which is good for the FB cooldown and orb generation. The exotic guantlets provide a free perk to increase FB duration and also increase special weapon reload speeds. The fusion rifle is basically an auto rifle (when perk unlocked) and has the bonus of find more ammo for this weapon. It ties in with the close/mid range of the playstyle and when the FB barrier depletes hold down the trigger and watch enemies burn away under sustained fusion rifles shots. By the time you need to reload the guantlets do it quickly and the melee is ready to get your FB up again to punch away at anything still standing. Also make sure that you drop shields in locations of direct fire so that it generates extra orbs, also drop shields when you see a teamate use a super. Those two extra orbs for them are greatly appreaciated, because four enemy punches later and you've just gotten their super back.

                    • Well I'm lvl 25 Striker, I want to be all about speed recovery and jumping around everywhere dropping fists of havoc everywhere so I wanted to maximize intelligence and discipline or intelligence and strength at the worse but of course only the crucible does that and I'm not that good at PvP. The few items the Vanguard have in Intelligence+Strength have upgrades to give extra ammo for the Scout Rifle (excuse me ?) and the Sniper Rifle (is this for real ? I'm a striker gimme ammo for a hand cannon and a shotgun !!). On another thread I was actually questioning the power of full speed which I always like playing in every game, but I don't know to what extent it's efficient in here. I mean, past a certain level, the enemies don't seem to miss whether you're fast or not. I also use the catapult jump to quickly change direction which doesn't seem to change much either. I might be the only one to use Headstrong because it gives a boost to Agility (extra-fast, remember ?) and also because I like to run, jump, double-jump, triple-jump, and watch everybody die. I use Shockwave cause generally, the enemies are aligned, you still have the circle area of effect anyway so it just basically makes it bigger. I use Storm Fist to "significantly" reduce the Fist of Havoc cooldown but I'd like to punch Bungie in the face for the term "significantly". It's seriously not that much. I use the Juggernaut ability too which is my way to not die, basically. I never saw the running melee attack to be as "devastating" as it is described to be. Thank you Bungie for the nice descriptions of the attacks. I used to play with a Hand Cannon (in PvE) but I looted the Doctor Nope (legendary Auto Rifle) so I use that, and a shotgun (PvP) or a Fusion Rifle (PvE). I also have an exotic Machine Gun (Good Advice) which sort of sucks but does a bunch of damage compared to the rest of my stuff (if you land the bullets on something that lives).

                      • So, discipline becomes less useful when you get perks that melee hits restore grenade energy. Or you can get the converse that grenade kills restore melee. I prefer the former since I melee a lot. Intellect is the one I try to keep up the highest. Even our skills only reduce Striker's FoH when storm fist kills something; which is not just melee, so it's harder to get FoH timer to speed up than the others.

When I used my Titan Defender (focusing on Hunter Bladedancer now), I usually rolled with an Auto Rifle / Pulse Rifle, Shotgun and Rocket Launcher, with my skills focusing on armor and creating orbs of light.

                        • I'm liking how the Vanguard gear is working for me. That said, my new "Helm of the Inmost Light" buffs Striker, which isn't my preferred subclass, so the build that best fits your play-style is what will be most effective.

                        • I prefer intellect and discipline. Although i see the use of melee it just isnt viable in raids or high level strikes to melee most enemies as youll just die going toe to toe where i prefer the large damage the magnetic grenade causes when stuck to an enemy which is good for sticking to bosses. My plan is to get the chest that has 130 discipline and have intellect/discipline for the rest so hopefully 80% super and 100% grenade

                        • Intellect and strength with a helmet which has the "melee hits restore grenade energy" modifier. My defend titan is a melee beast, but the special is kinda weak at the point I'm at, because I mostly play pve alone and even when I do team up no one really uses the bubble so I really only use it to restore team mates who are surrounded. Auto rifle is a beast on strikes and a good fusion rifle makes short work of shielded enemies.

                        • I'm pretty much gonna be setting up a general build for PvP and PvE that will be based around one of two exotic helmets. I already have the helm of inmost light for my striker subclass (PvP), but I want to get the helm of saint 14 for my defender subclass (PvE) that will blind any enemies that enter (as this will be useful when using the 'weapons of light' damage buff rather than resist/overshield). I'm currently using the exotic gauntlets "no backup plans", which are good for buffing the 'disintegrate' ability for PvE, but this becomes way to risky to use that often on higher level missions. For objective-based PvP matches I will probably switch between my general striker subclass and a defender subclass (that grants overshield for anyone on my team who enters my defensive void bubble). Apart from that, I will stick to my trusty suros regime as primary weapon because it is just ridiculous, and switch up between shotgun or sniper depending on the mission/map. My heavy weapons suck at the moment (I have gjallarhorn but would rather use suros regime), but I will most likely use a legendary rocket launcher for clearing objectives in PvP and a legendary machine gun (with high stability) for PvE. Striker nades will be flashbangs as they are OP, and the magnetic grenades will remain for defender (beastly for void damage on shielded vex in VoG). Up to level 20 I liked to have some strength stats, but now I'd stick to pure intellect and discipline for both PvE and PvP.

                              • True strength in pvp is pointless but it's not as useless in pve considering most mobs rush heavy so you often need to hit and the regeneration kills definitely help the quick deaths but with higher lvl enemies you often don't want to tangle since they can one shot punch you but then it depends on where your are who your teammates are and what role your going for. And the shotgun punch combo if your not close enough to get the one hit kill helps since your probably close to dead so getting the heal even if it's small is helpful. And it works great with the defender to for the shield so the strength even in pvp is helpful depending on how you play.
