Why did the original halo games, 1-3, all use bullets?

I mean, the game took place in the 26th century, how did the human race not upgrade their weaponry in that entire time span?

  •
Because for a long timespan of the universe, humanity was unified and peaceful. All weapons were basically used for police. Why expand and build a weapons stockpile when there's only one government and that said government already has all of the military power? When the Insurrection broke out, it became complicated because of the vast distances between colonies and the low military power on each planet. It was consisted of mostly militia, and most of them sided with the Insurrectionists anyway. You had large support for it, and they were willing to use terrorism and were able to overwhelm undermanned UNSC ships and take them for themselves since backup would never arrive in time. They started putting MAC cannons on them to fire and cripple ships (it was originally a cargo delivery system). It reignited the arms race that inevitably led to the SPARTAN II's. They didn't upgrade to laser-based weapons because what would be the point? The enemy had the same weaponry as the UNSC. Why waste resources funding such expensive weapons? A bullet would kill just as fast. It didn't change until the Covenant showed up with their energy weapons. Now humanity was at a technological disadvantage, which made them start working towards matching their tech through reverse engineering (overshields, Spartan laser). Basically, if it weren't for the Insurrection, humanity would have been wiped out real quickly.
• So did Halo 4. Good point but like some other guy said that's down to Alien movies.

I think the real reason is that the original halo team liked the movies, aliens, and starship troopers - it's the combination of the futuristic with more visceral modern weaponry Since that game, and maybe due to being a sign of the times, the past decade has seen military shooters quickly become extremely popular, such that it's perhaps now difficult for futuristic shooters to break away from what is now perceived as being key to a sales success

There are a couple of reasons but lets start with the main one Simple answer Power. Mankind in the story is still using fossil fuels for all land vehicles so they weren't that far ahead of us. The Master Chief was using experimental everything in his armor, All tech that was reversed engineered from the Covenant. So quiet simple the human race was still struggling with making batteries small enough and powerful enough to power lasers and plasma weapons. Look at how massive their ships are, Most of that space is for power generation Also no special tools or technology to make bullets or guns and they can be stored for a long time with out going bad VS batteries that lose their charge over time and clean rooms to make the optics and various other components in lasers.

      • Because guns with bullets are fun. Seriously, if I could find the article I remember reading this from I would. The main reason why Halo has guns that shoot bullets, even 500 years in the future, is because they add variety and fun to the game, while adding a connection to the present. In this case, gameplay trumps plot, albeit in a rather minor way.

      • Bullets are cool, and it shows distinction between human and alien technology. As for lore, humans just didn't have cheap, high energy materials like the Covenant did, so bullets were retained.

      • People focused on building ships and colonies and stuff, so people weren't that focused on making guns since the UNSC existed and nationalism for countries really kinda faded away. Also, Bungie didn't want the Human and Covenant weapons to be too similar, so in a vein towards Sci-Fi like Aliens and stuff they use bullets.

      • They also use lasers, on large scale ships, Spartan lasers, Gauss Hogs, etc. But watching bullet shells fly in the air is bad ass.
