phogoth weekly strike strategy

a guy at work sent me this strat this morning. so for anyone who has not beaten it yet (myself included) please enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=OGpA4Y49ttg#t=626 This week we travel to the moon to take on Phogoth and the Hive. Our skull this week is "Angry" which prevents the enemies from being staggered even after taking massive damage. I found how to use this to my advantage - discussed below. My loadout: • Hand Cannon primary (lvl 20 blue) o The hand cannon is primarily for trash. With a solid weapon, I could one-shot all the trash except knights, which were two shots. Makes it very easy to clean up rooms if you can unload a single clip and take out the entire group. The skull 'angry' actually works in our favor for the handcannon, as the knights don't stagger on the first headshot so two instant shots is a kill without having to aim again • Solar Fusion Rifle (shotgun could also work, but it NEEDS to be solar) o Why solar? Wizards. Their shield is weak to solar and they pose the primary danger to you in your quest to finish the strike. It's doable with non-solar weapons, but having a solar special weapon makes it tremendously easier. Fusion rifles are also high burst damage in the first place, strong against Phogoth where you start charging, pop out from behind a pillar, and immediately shoot then hide again. No damage taken. o A strong shotgun could also be useful for taking out the melee knights seen in Phogoth's room so you can run less. • Solar Machine Gun / Rocket Launcher (both work, but they really should be solar) o Again, solar here to get rid of the wizards. They are what will kill you in here. So let's get started with the beginning three waves after you deploy your ghost. I had very little difficulty with the first two waves, just keep moving and headshotting the enemies as you can. Remember patience is key here, if you don't have a good shot or are being pursued, just run. There's a safe spot up the path you came in the room, but you have to make two full right(?) turns to be safe from the wizards. Wave two spawns one (maybe two, I only recall one) wizard, nothing special. Clean him up with a solar special weapon and he's not an issue. Wave three is the problem, there's around 4-5 wizards spawning including two Rare wizards and the Ultra boss wizard. I abused the safe spot two turns up the ramp leading into the room and took the wizards out one by one here. It was tedious, but doable. Nothing much special in here, just take your time and clean up the enemies one at a time. I found the hand cannon to be exceptionally strong because of how easy it was to clean out the enemies, but you can really use any weapon of your preference. Moving on, the next few rooms aren't anything crazy. Just take your time, pop one or two enemies, duck behind cover and reload, rinse and repeat. I breezed through the hallways until Phogoth, where it gets troublesome. If you have issues past the first three waves getting to Phogoth, let me know and I'll try to upload a video. Alright, now the fun part. Boss time. He's trivial to kill if you follow one simple rule: completely ignore the boss while adds are alive. When you open the door, try to pick off a few of the Acolytes on the raised platforms before entering the room. Beware the thralls that rush you, but they die to a single melee hit and they aren't too bad. Do not run near Phogoth or even shoot him until all of the adds are dead. There's a knight and a few acolytes on the ground to the left, run out that way and clean them out. There's a relatively safe spot in this room on both far corners, a rock formation in the far north west corner (facing into the room from the entrance) and a big pillar in the far north east corner that I used liberally to hide, reload, and heal. EDIT: Apparently if you stand behind the rock in the far north west corner, after clearing the first wave of adds, the future waves don't aggro and phogoth can't hit you. Will attempt this on higher difficulty tonight! There's five waves of adds that spawn, each with increasing difficulty. The first two are fairly trivial, just thralls, acolytes, and knights. The melee knights are your biggest problem, but if you keep moving and pop them with a shotty or hand cannon they go down in 2-3 hits (grenades help a lot too). The last three waves are a pain because of, you guessed it, the wizards. Here's where I used all of my solar machine gun ammo, although a rocket launcher would work exceptionally well too if you land a hit. At most you'll have three wizards up at once. If they spawn on top of you and start hitting you, don't turn and fight. Run from one safe spot to the other, duck behind, reload and heal, then turn and fire. I could generally kill one wizard per heal with the machine gun up. The rest of the adds aren't too bad; there's a few exploding thrall but they're slow and not very scary. If you make it this far, all that's left is Phogoth. My preferred spot for killing him is behind the pillar in the far north east of the room. Pop out one side, hit him once with a fusion rifle, then go to the other side and hit him again. Rinse and repeat, and he shouldn't ever hit you. Only problem you may have is running out of ammo (mine wouldn't regenerate when I ran out, so be careful) but as long as you sprint and double jump a lot you'll escape all of Phogoth's damage. Otherwise he's pretty trivial once it's just you and he! Let me know how this works, if you have any questions or issues feel free to post below. Here is a link to my profile and gear. This is a guide for the lvl 22 weekly heroic strike, I have yet to try it on higher difficulties. Good luck!
