Anyone have some self help tips to fight depression?

I'm fûcking miserable. I hate my life. I hate getting up every morning. I hate my job and my college. I don't really enjoy anything anymore. I just feel like I'm drowning in darkness. I just feel like giving up on everything. I have no idea what I want to do with my life and feel like the world would be better off if I never existed. I'm tired of feeling this way, so I'm looking for any self help tips any of you might have. UPDATE 2 Just got back from the doctor. I have anxiety and depression. I'm starting medication soon so hopefully I'll get better.

You are going to college? Well consider this: if you keep going to college, you will be able to get a job that you actually like, something that you will enjoy waking up to go to in the morning, something that will make you happy. And also consider that it's almost certain that there is at least one person who you've interacted with at some point in your life, who would be absolutely miserable if you had never existed. Find something that you think suffering for is worthwhile. That is often some good motivation when I'm troubled.

  • I can't remember if I posted in this thread or not, but I like you a lot, so ima post anyhow. Depression is something many of us have lived with, or still experience. The way I get out of my ruts is by working out more regularly, praying on a daily basis, and focusing on the good things in life. Now, you don't need to be religious for my second thing to help, look into simple meditation. I also find that I get all wonky emotionally if I'm either constantly around other people, or stay isolated. I have a huge amount of friends IRL, but sometimes I don't even think about their existence. Other times I spend every free our with one of them, and end up socially exhausted. So just some suggestions: Go for walks. If you have too many friends, scale things back a bit and relax. If you are lonely, college is great, just swallow the awkwardness and strike up conversations with people, or join study groups. Drink camomile tea in the evenings, and coffee on the mornings. Find a goal. My goals are pretty odd, they include being able to give my future children access to expensive education and opportunities that I never experienced, and to ride dragons in the next life.

    • I break away from all social aspects of life, besides gaming, deleted all social media. You don't need everyone else's problems when you have your own. I spend a lot of time at work. I don't love my job, but it keeps me busy and can keep my mind off things for a little while. But I really just step back from everything and take some time to just figure myself out. What I like and what I want and I start building from there. Pick back up on all the little things you use to enjoy that you may not focus on or forgot about awhile ago. I'm currently going through a state now. I work from 5pm - 5am. Go home and game for a few hours. Catch some sleep. Game some more or other things I wanna do. Then I'm back in at work. I keep myself busy and do what I want to do and what I have to. But every day it is slowly making progress and getting better. Progress is slow, but eventually it will work itself out and you feel better. May not work for all, but hope it helps. Feel free if you need someone to talk to. RagingGinger121 Xbox one.

Take some time out of your day to just take a, quite literal, "walk in the park". Take a walk and don't worry about anything but the nature around u Just a suggestion, u don't have to do this if u don't want

Remember that the entire world are idiots and you are the only one who is sane. It makes you have a purpose. If that doesn't work then watch funny Youtube videos and Red vs Blue episodes.

      • Self help? Umm being one who struggles with depression and never been to therapy find a couple of people really close to you who can always have an ear open or are similar. I use anime and YouTube funny videos to keep my mind off the world when I'm not out. Remind myself that I never wanna see those I care about in pain because of me making the choice. Music helps I listen to we came as Romans and the amity affliction and the fray a lot. Also video games not cod more like rpg kinda games where I can be a character I want to be and not myself and just imagining and creating a life for that character. Some people will disagree with my methods but Idc this all saved my life :)

      • Having struggled with severe depressive disorder and schizophrenia, i know we're you're coming from. But dude, let me tell you something. We are all here for you man. Don't hesitate to contact me or anyone here you trust for help. Alright now for some tips :) 1) find out the source of your misery Once you understand why you feel this way, you can work towards making changes in your life that will empower you and make life a lot more enjoyable. For example, I felt really alone. I didn't really have anyone for me. Once I understood that I felt that way I was able to take action and try and create friendships with people that I could trust. Your situation might be different. But the message is, understand your melancholy. If you can't understand why you are down then see a doctor. You depression could be caused by chemical imbalance in the brain. 2) find help If you don't already have a person to speak to (eg: close friend, doctor, psychologist, psychiatrist) then get one as soon as possible. I know it might be hard at first, to open up to people about how you feel. But it is ridiculously important. Make sure people understand how you are feeling. This will make them aware that you need a helping hand and they will help you out. But yea, make sure you speak to a doctor. They can sort things out for you. Including medication if the need arises. 3) start pursuing fitness Something that really helped me rough my depression was physical activity. Now don't cringe haha I know it might not be your thing. If it is, that's awesome! Get into regular training, particularly cardiovascular training that improves the overall health of the body. If physical activity isn't your thing, then that's ok haha :). Remember, you don't have to be superman or anything. But going out for walks, doing push ups, cycling and other activity will greatly improve your mode. And if you can do it with friends that even better! Finding a training partner if you want and tackle it together. It will greatly improve your mode physically and mentally. 4) make positive changes in your life A major factor that contributed to my change to a positive lifestyle was also changing some of my habitual thought patterns. Basically, changing the way I thought and acted in my life. A great author and motivational speaker who can teach you this is Anthony Robbins. His books and audio lectures helped me change my life on so many different levels. If you going to do anything on this list LOOK HIM UP!! He's half the reason I'm better today. 5) get talking to more people I'm not sure if your a very social person, but if you are not, I highly recommend getting out and making more friends and getting to know them a bit better. Not only will this create more friendships but it will also help keep your mind off of your suffering. Basically, you'll be distracted from your depression when your with friends. This will make you stronger :) 6) listen to music that makes you happy This could be anything really, but for me specifically it's music. I'm a musician and I love all kinds of music. I found that whenever I listened to a song that made me happy my depression would float away and I would feel a lot better. Word of warning though, please don't listen to aggressive or sad songs because they won't help get you out of depression. They often make me feel angrier (duh) and even worse them before I listened to them. So steer clear haha. Just do things that make you feel happy when your down. It could be games, music, sport. Anything haha. 7) most importantly, believe in yourself and don't let anything that gets in your way stop you. This is the number one rule! Don't let anything or anyone make you feel shit. If they do, disregard them. They probably are not worth your time anyway. I found people how stressed me out always made me depressed. They always made me feel small and weak. The truth is mate, those people are the weakest of us. And they only strive to shut us down for their own amusement. Ironically, it's hose people that drive me to be a better person. To become stronger and more mentally capable then them. We are limitless, not limited. Don't let anyone slow you down in becoming the best person you can be! If you need help, we are all here for you. Stand tall man.

Dude I've been there and I want to help you out. Depression is commonly because of biological reasons, and there are steps you can take to help you out. -Get a water bottle and drink it all at least twice a day -Workout every other night. This can include just pushups, planks, crunches, chin-ups if you have a chin-up bar that you can prop on your door frame, curls with dumb bells (exercising increases endorphins and confidence) -Eat fruit for breakfast/lunch cut out junk food and eat more protein and healthy carbs. Fats and sugars cause depression. -Get 7 hours of sleep a night. Don't stay up past 1-2 at the latest -This will sound silly, but jack off less. Every other day or waiting a few days lets testosterone build up and raises confidence and social skills -Realize it's all worth it. Your job and college are providing you with credentials to have a good career -Talk to a close friend. Message someone that you can carry a comfortable conversation with and ask them about their day and they can ask about yours. Talking to someone every day or every so often keeps a healthy mind -Wake up early and start the day off doing something productive like taking a walk, doing laundry, some chores, enjoying nature. -Live simply. This one was biggest for me. Don't overthink and over-worry about everything. Enjoy the small blessings in life that you overlook. -Remember you are not alone, and have courage. There are many people going through the same thing as you, and there are people who love you and care for you and are thinking of you. You should talk to them. Ask your parents for guidance with your major or path you want to take in life. -Don't ever give up. It's not worth it, you're a significant individual and the only person holding yourself back from happiness is you. Wake up in the morning and have a positive mindset. Blast your favorite cheerful song after getting out of bed and start off the day strong. Every day is a fresh page.

                • Drink hot coco and try to talk to another person while doing it. The key is to feel warm and distracted so that you won't deep think a feel depressed. Also listen to happy & energetic music.
It works for me man and I feel fantastic.
• Talk to someone, a councillor. Sometimes it's good to talk to someone that you do not know, that will not judge you and help put things in perspective. Good luck, do not give up.

Make a change. Do something different. Maybe a little more variety in your daily routine would help?

                    • Try to eliminate the people or things that make you feel this way, live for yourself and no one else, I know it hurts and it will hurt a lot but I promise if you push through it gets a whole lot better. Surround yourself with the people who make you happy and honestly, just cry, just let it out because it makes you feel a lot calmer after. Idk if this will help at all but I hope it does :) if you wanna talk im here :)
