Update Loot System To Encourage Skill Rather Than Luck

Over the past week that I have been playing destiny, I have enjoyed every minute of it. However, I am deeply saddened by the loot system when it comes to multiplayer. MANY times I get rewarded with nothing for being the MVP of a match and the person on my team who did terrible will get loot and I won't. In order for destiny to create a system for skill, create challenges like 'win crucible matches 10 times in a row' to get a random choice of rare or higher gear. Or, introduce challenges such as: 'achieve a KDR of 10.00 or above in your next crucible match to earn a bonus 100 crucible reputation.

    • I decided to do bad on a match and went 0 and 25. I got 1 legendary engram, 2 rare armor engrams, and a rocket launcher. Like seriously loot system needs a fix

      • Despite what everyone else says, there is actually a fair amount of truth behind this. I myself am not one to complain about this very much, I don't care either way... however I do this it's a little unfair to award this kind of loot so randomly. My suggestion is simple: Increase the loot chance based on the performance of the player. [i]No negatives based on poor performance, it only adds chance[/i]. Or, add a greater chance of[u] higher quality[/u] loot based on performance. These ways, no matter how you do you'll always have a chance... just the players who come out on top will have a better chance. It doesn't take away any loot from those who might not be as skilled, but it also is a fair reward for those who do very well. Don't understand?[b] Let's say, the current rate of loot is... oh sheesh I don't know, 20% (Just picking a random number).[/b] What if each position on the [i]winning [/i]team added 2% to the chance you'll get loot. 6th - 20% 5th - 22% etc... 1st - 30% And every position on the [i]losing[/i] team added 1%. 6th - 20% 5th - 21% etc... 1st - 25% So even if you lost, but did really well for your team, you get a better chance for loot compared to the rest of your teammates, and have just as much of a chance (25%) as the 4th place person on the winning team (Whom you most likely did just as well as--although that often depends). This way it doesn't exclude players who do poorly--they receive it at the same rate everyone would right now. But it rewards players for doing better. [b]In fact knowing this, it encourages me to play better! I'd WANT to place higher on my team, and more importantly help the team win as a whole. [/b]If your team wins, everyone wins! [b]But it also doesn't forget how well you did if you lost![/b] Because we all know sometimes we just get put with a bad team, and that's understandable! This system could be used for the loot quality, instead! Just change the idea of "The percent chance of getting loot" to "The percent chance of getting high-quality loot". It could work the same! [i]"Oh but the good players will get all the good loot! That's so unfair!"[/i] Is it? They're good for more reasons than loot. In fact, a skilled player could easily take down a player who just has better equipment and no real skill. As mean as this may sound, should we just give trophies in sports to everyone even if they didn't try or didn't do well? If you can't be a winner, no one can, right? I don't believe in this at all. I believe in trying to get better, playing to improve. I'm not the best at this game, and I know a lot of people are in similar boats, but I can see both sides. It's unfair for those who are skilled to be treated exactly like those who aren't as skilled, and it's unfair for those who are unskilled to miss out on loot because it could help them get better. Though that raises a point: WILL the loot help you get better? Like I said, [quote]...A skilled player could easily take down a player who just has better equipment...[/quote] For example, in Beta I crushed everyone when I simply used a common Auto Rifle that was like... level 5. I kept it even until level 8, and constantly used it. People would face me with uncommon level 8 equipment, and I'd always come out on top during shoot outs. It's not the loot, sure it can be sometimes but often it's not, it's the player. It's how you use it. Would getting that loot make you better? I dunno', but there's nothing to say it would. I'm not saying this idea is fool-proof. I'm just offering it up as a suggestion. I feel like this could work really well for both sides if it was tweaked.

        • Im level 23 and i got only 3 legendary engrams!! The loot system is horrible. I don't even have any exotic armor yet!

        • I think the luck should still be a factor, but highest scoring players should be guarenteed at least 1 reward.

            • I don't think the people who aren't as skilled don't [i]deserve [/i]the same loots, but award 1'st 2'nd 3'rd with a higher drop rate then keep the rest completely random like it is. Reward and award but don't punish.

              • Do you guys ever think that maybe everything actually is random, but you just think that the worse players get good rewards cause that's all you remember since it pisses you off. I've gotten 2 leg in pvp one I finished 4th and the other I was 1st. And if you guys don't like your rewards use all your crucible marks and buy shit!! God.. If you don't have enough marks you obviously haven't played enough then

              • Right with you man. twice now for losing matches ive received legendary engrams only to have them all turn into uncommon and rares. or not even equipment at all. ive been stuck at 23 for a week and have yet to receive a piece of gear even though ive won so many. This along with doing heroics. I have done every daily heroic twice a day alone and have yet to get gear above green.

                      so by ur idea, the guys that kill easy get better gear n the ones struggling get nothing? so the strong get stronger n the weak have no chance as u get better n better stuff! genius idea bro! u get the crucible points to buy stuff thats legendary anyway! u greedy douche lol

                      • As i.ve read this argument/whine elsewhere, i'll regurgitate their point: if the already killer MVPs get all the good gear, then the mediocre will quit playing because they won't have a chance in hell. Matchmaking Would take longer, and the community would be broken further. This particular skinner box is not made to reward your pwning efforts. Chaos is fair to all. Praise random!

                        • The rewards are based on the activity bonuses, such as kill 1500 fallen. PvP has its own as well and once you complete one it gives you the bonus. I was upset by the same thing as most of you until I checked up on it. They just completed some challenge even though they didn't do so well in that match. The rewards are entirely random though so they could get a legendary every time or never.

                        • I'm midway. Not the best but also not the worst. I get loot and sometimes I don't. Stop whining and just enjoy the game. Random is the best way to go. Ever tried doing bad in a match to see if you get anything? Guess what did all good, bad and midway and sometimes I'd get loot sometimes I didn't.

                            • I for the most part disagree. As frustrating as it can seem when you land in the top of the ladder and don't receive loot (this happens to me a decent amount), I think their system is actually great. If there are players who never really get to the top, why would they keep playing as they are given every reason to be discouraged and stay away from PvP, there would be no real incentive to play PvP. I know I'd stop playing it. Not everyone has the skill to come close to the top even with sick gear, plus this is just a video game that's meant to be fun, it's not like they're giving away your paycheck. Now maybe there can be a some other sort of way to reward really good players, but sharing the wealth gives average players a reason for them (sometimes I hit a real bad streak too) to keep playing and not rage quitting all the time. I totally understand where you're coming from, but this is an idea I've never seen implemented before and I think it's a welcome change.

                              • You can complete bounties and level up your reputation and marks faster, if you are a good player. Therefore I don't see any reason why bad players shouldn't get some candy to keep them motivated to stay in PvP. Remember that the biggest part of the audience isn't really competetive or invested enough to participate in the forums or care about their k/d. They just want to relax for some hours after work. Although, you could just implement the engram drops in PvP. So, everytime you kill someone you have the chance to drop an engram. Therefore better players have a higher chance to obtain something good.
