Where is the rest of the Destiny's story?

I have noticed something that is probably a glitch or some sort of data flaw in my game. It seems the rest of the story is completely absent from the game. I have played the story campaign up to the part with the black garden, but after that I cant find out where to go next. Is there some hidden thing I have to do? I've tried looking in the Reef for any locations but it seems to be empty, but that does not seem right. Why can't I travel to any locations in the Reef?I'm pretty confident the makers of Halo wouldn't leave us with such an unrealistically small and weak story campaign which begs me to ask where the rest of the story is? I couldn't find it in the multi-player modes and could not play them for long due to player balance issues. Hey Bungie, could you get back to me on this and let me know whats up?

  • I think a small prologue scene where you experience the war at the gates before dying would have worked well. It would mean we actually experience the horror of watching the last cities fall with our last breath. Then have us wake up to the rusted remains. As is I feel the same way. We could have gotten more incentive being able to see the darkness killing innocents and trashing our home world. Still a great story but presented very thinly.

But the truth is that by accepting whatever a game developer does, there could be some serious backlashes. How can a sober minded consumer be OK with a company selling you a portion of the product at full price and then sell you the rest at additional cost, and at the same time say "thank you, more please!"? That's telling everybody else in the industry they can do the same. Bungie announced the first dlc one month before the game was even released and inside the box, there's an ad telling you about 2 dlcs you can purchase in a few months. That's actually pretty ridiculous, it's like going to a car dealership and look at some sedans and they all only come with the driver seat and when they tell you that its fully equipped and you would say that's more than I expected. Then the salesman tells you that oh by the way, you can buy another seat to put on your right, so you can bring a friend along and as time goes you'll be able fill the back to with seats so you can take a maximum of 5 people, and that just blows your mind because you think it's just an amazing deal and buy that car with only 1 seat for yourself. I believe that gamers as a community should not be OK with this, because things are only going to get worse. We need to call it as it is, we shouldn't be OK with contents being held back and pushed out as dlcs. But instead we're defending these cooperation's who's main goal is to make money, and tell them sure give us less for the same price and sell the rest to us later.

      • It appears bungie tore off 50%+ of this game to release later, likely as paid dlc. Quite the hack job. Repeating the same stuff since 18 with no end in sight unless you have huge amounts of free time to grind and form raid groups with zero game assistance to form groups.

        • There's a valid concern that THIS model of content release is a very bad trend for gamers and gamers wallets. Angry Joe's review represents these viewpoints very well. I can't fault people who want to fight the good fight and hold out on these companies and demand more integrity. I, however, can't get enough of this game-play, and I have been gobbling up game-play hours even while I CRINGE at the glaring., SHAMELESS mediocrity of the story and the repetitive tasks. There is ALSO a valid argument that we are jumping the gun; that new content will make Destiny feel more WHOLE and is itself WORTH THE WAIT. Critics of this argument point to the likelihood that this content is probably behind a paywall, and that the problems we are experiencing now are based on content being held-out for a cash-in later. I can't disagree. Bottom Line for me is this: It had better be worth the wait. Not for my sake, but for the sake of the VISION that Bungie tapped into here. For the sake of the 10-year adventure, for the legends that could have been. And for the sake of our hobby.

          • A story consists of a beginning, a buildup, a climax, and a resolution. Destiny only has a beginning. We are told about things in the opening. We don't know much about them, but we are now Aware of Things. By the end, we are now Aware of More Things. We still don't actually know ANYTHING about these Things. there is no resolution to this post that's it just gonna let you fill in your own story here

            • I'm the same I don't buy DLC and I don't buy games riddled with it at launch (except this one, damn you hype). I vote with my wallet and wait for a complete version to come out at a reasonable price and let the WHALES pay the silly prices. On Eurogamer if you dare mention wanting value or complain about price your harassed, they go so far as to demand less for more money it's nuts I don't get the crazy rich world that exists last I checked most people are broke or struggling. The odd thing is Games cost less than movies to make but movies cost less than games to buy, ok so more people watch movies so they have volume but then the only thing holding back games on huge volume is price. I also note that budget to make a game is less than the marketing, again this is nuts surely they could cut some costs their. PC games cost the same to make and are cheaper in fact they probably cost more as they need to support crazy hardware configs and have huge piracy risk. This whole it costs loads for the game or the servers need paid for is totally hogwash and they know it, Guildwars 2 created a post to prove cost of servers and connections are a tiny part of the budget and on top of that we PAY for the servers with the PS+/Xbox Live subs people are so dim they can't even see what's happening it's insane. Worst thing I saw was the box actually states it has a epic story on it, yeah if you wait for destiny 2 and import your character maybe. So much of this game is broken and silly decisions made for no reason like match making only for strikes and PVP WTF. Ok adding in match making won't make the game worse for these elite players who cleared it in less than a day no all it does is improve the game for the rest of us. Adding match making to normal misstions would also not lower the quality of the game it would just open up options. This game could be offline I rarely see anyone and when I do we ignore eachother because well they don't have much in the way of communication options it's insane they say it's for our own good... Erm adding randoms from a website to my friends list is no different to match making the only difference is it takes ages and then if they end up been dicks we have to close the game go back to the site and ask for 1 more member so we can do 1 mission that takes 15 minutes to complete... Anger toward Bungie Bollocks is huge almost on par with the hype.

Yeah a story is important unless you're just mindless and just want to blow things up. Almost every reviewer has given destiny a mediocre review. They all mentioned story is lacking.

              • Another thing worth noting is that the fact that bungie had not been specific about how big the game shipped on the disc really is. But it's not because bungie is modest or it's hard to quantify. They were able to show off how many people had downloaded the game, how many guardians were created and how many death and etc. after the beta was over. How come they can't just straight up and tell us the gamers exactly how big it really is by revealing how many enemy types, weapons, missions or even a map of each of the areas? Especially after so many gaming sites had pointed out that destiny isn't really as big as bungie claim it to be, saying this is the biggest game they ever created isn't saying anything it's all very vague. If it's really that huge of a game, why can't they just release a nice info graph of how big this game is just like the one they put out after the beta was over? That would really show me how stupid I am for doubting them.

              • This game could definitely benefit from a little more exposition. The grimoire cards just don't do it. Maybe have a "librarian" in The Tower who lets you peruse materials (think the card info but actually in game). Still, nobody bothers to tell the Guardian anything beyond where and what. Never why. Like when you get to Mars, it's "go break through the Cabal's exclusion zone". Well, who in the -blam!- are the Cabal and why do they have an exclusion zone? A little cursory info here and there would be nice. Sometimes having "less is more" works, lending to mystery. Yet here we're at so much less that we're just scratching our heads. Of course we're gonna shoot the aggressive aliens. We don't need to entirely understand them. But a little rundown on our key players from the Ghost would have been nice. Now on the other hand, hopefully we get the rest later. Halo:CE did that if we remember. No real explanation in the first game, just the Covenant attacks and we go from there. Zero explanation for what the Covies want, just deal with them. Granted, Cortana was always more talkative and freely shared with you the reasons for every objective. The sequels did give us info though, the Prophets' religion and so on. I'm hoping Destiny will do this in game as more content drops.

I completely agree. I waited for this game for a long time and right now I need to convince myself that it is not bad but unfortunately it is. I have nothing against doc's but if I get something in the main realise to keep me hooked. However there is nothing in this game to keep me even interested. Story is lacking depth and some more of everything, all modes are painfully repetitive and difficulty is a joke. Even multiplayer is nothing special. Only graphic and sound is exceptional. Some people said in hare that it is a mystery and we need to wait. Please do not mistake lack of information with mystery. For example shrine mission on the moon: your ghost tells you on the end that it was communicating with some god or something which means that big bad boss will come in next dlc and you will need to kill him. Of course without any context why? Now guess what I read about next dlc? If you would want a mystery first you wouldn't reveal your destination in the title of the mission. You keep it secret so player is surprise what the hell he found on the bottom of the catacombs. Then your ghost tells you that it is some sort of shrine and human technology was used to creat it (for example). Then it gives you some coordinate where you can find some more info about the source of this tech. This may be on cosmodrome where you need to find (without bloody arrow pointing at it) this location. Then there should be nice cut scene when you finally find out that the shrine was meant to be a communication device with hive god or something. It is only the example from top of my head. On top of week story every mission, strike, patrol and raid is so repetitive that after two play through you know what enemy in what sequence come out from which point and when. Combine that with dumb AI plus dead easy difficulty and you have recipe for disaster. Don't get me wrong I would love this game to succeed however to do that bunge need to make drastic changes right now or this game won't survive next few months.

                      • There is probably going to be DLC's coming later. I noticed that there is grimore cards for mercury and Saturn and Jupiter but there is no levels to unlock those grimore cards. Also more story is when you do the vault of glass. Back on Venus when you go to the archives they mention the vault of glass. Maybe that has something to do with story too.

                        • Uhm.. I'm sorry? What story are you talking about? I've played this whole game but never found one.. I'm serious. I don't know why I am killing all those poor creatures I meet on earth, moon, venus and mars. As far as I know they could be just aggressiv and attack me on sight because they fear for their lives! I mean it. I never saw these creatures to do anything wrong. They are just walking around, enjoying the weather.. and then my guardian appears and everything dies a horrible, surely painfull, death. That's my biggest issue with this game (after "Error Code: Bee"). I never got this "This is the last city on earth and we have to defend/protect it!"-feeling. I don't even know this city or it's name. All I know is the tower.. and even from the tower I've only seen it's roof. There are no NPC's telling you what's going on.. all NPC's you meet are the ones on the towers roof, that Exo-lady and those two awoken people from the rift. I totally do not know what's going on in "my" city. is it in danger? Is it 24/7 under attack by someone or something? Why are the different alien factions fighting each other? Aren't they this "darkness" that wiped almost everything humanity ever build out? How did they do that if they always fight each other? .. and why the hell looks most human technology you encounter in this game like something from 1980-2010? Cars and airplanes look like the ones we use right now. Computers look very often like the ones from the 80s. I don't even know why I destroyed that weird thing in the black garden. Honestly I don't even know how I destroyed it. I shot something else, this weird thing got depressed and decided it's time to implode? A few more cutscenes and dialoges would have been good for this games story mode. At least that's my opinion.

                          • The story was really fragmented. It normally should be told sequentially, but this was not clear from the missions that opened up. The side stories confused it by a lot. I'm not sure if there was a key but they could have differentiated it by stating that it was a side story to the main plot on the selection screen. From what I've managed to piece together here it is in very simplistic terms and I'm a bit sketchy on the details. Story Summary [SPOILERS]: After the collapse, the traveller in its weakened state created ghosts to find guardians that could wield it's "light" power to fight back the darkness. The aim of the last city is to revive the traveller. Your ghost finds you and revives you with light, finds you a ship and gets you to the tower. You go back to the spot you found your ship to get the interplanetary hyperdrive for your ship. The fallen boss has it so you kill him to get it back. You discover that the hive are on earth and that the fallen are fighting them to get access to something. You find out in the warmind that the computer shows something somewhere is suppressing the traveller's light. You locate the array to pinpoint the rough location of the source, discovering it is on the moon. You go to the moon to find clues, going to an old moon base station and tracing the last known guardian's ghost to a certain location. You discover a hive base and inform the city of the events unfolding there. A strange exo hunter appears to watch over you. You delve deeper into the base to discover that fragments of the traveller are being used by the darkness to suppress its powers. Your ghost discovers there's a bigger suppressant somewhere on Venus. You go to the old academy for clues and discover the vex. The stranger gives you a hint about how to revive the traveller. There is something in the black garden it seems, but it is not known how to find it. Your paths are different but the traveller's revival will probably help her cause too. Her ship is being attacked by vex so she has to go off, but she suggests speaking to the Queen of the Reef. You go to the Reef to ask the Queen for help on finding it. She says she knows where it is but you have to get a vex gatelord's head as it has the access codes/memory fragments. You traverse venus trying to track where a vex gatelord could be and finally pinpoint a location. On the way you discover that the vex are guarding something called the vault of glass which holds many secrets, but the gatelord is more important so you kill it and bring it back to the queen. The queen's brother reluctantly tells you that the black garden is on mars in the exclusion zone. You owe them a favour when the time is right. You go to mars and fight through the cabal to pinpoint where in the exclusion zone is the way to the black garden. You eventually find an area guarded by vex and fight through to a portal where you are transported to the black garden. You discover a giant black heart which is the main reason why the traveller is dying. You destroy it and save the traveller. There is celebration in the city for your triumph, but you choose to ignore it. The stranger suggests that your paths will cross again and gives you a gift. The story arc ends, suggesting that you will now travel further to fight back the darkness. The side stories are actually interesting too but I need to play through them again to figure out what the heck is going on. Parts of the story are told by the ghost within the mission which you barely pay attention to since you are fighting off hoardes of enemies while the ghost is dycrypting/hacking computers. Hence why everyone is confused! I'll have to play through the story mission again with other characters to fully understand it properly, but hopefully the rough sketch above helps!

                              • Bungie doesn't care about its community. They only case about statistics like the money they're making and how many play their game. Instead of fixing server disconnects they're having players teach other players how to fix the problem so they don't have to and then they're recording and displaying total hours logged by players. They don't care what's wrong with their game or about US that's the bottom line.

                              • My guess is Bungie is hopefully working on additional story and content for the Reef. The Queen mentioned in the cutscene she expects Hero Guardian to return to the Reef to help her. I think there was a rumor about a Vex reprisal force massing for another attack on Earth using the Reef as staging area.

                                • The story will be expanded upon throughout the 10 years Bungie has promised to Destiny's story. DLC will be part of it, yes, but if you haven't seen the Events Inbound update, they have a new part of the story coming next week titled "The Queen's Wrath". (It's a free update) A lot of the story will be free updates. The only thing we know the DLC will have is new areas and things to do, and their own story to accompany it. They have given us essentially only the prologue of this massive story to draw us in. The full story will take all 10 years to tell, as Bungie has said countless times. Patience is the biggest part of Destiny.

                                  • The rest of the story is going to come through weekly missions and events. They also have to make more games after this, and since the darkness is such a big threat, it will undoubtedly be the main enemy for all the games. So they can defeat it this game, but there will still be more story to come. Don't worry :)
