the story finally clicked and here it is.

There is a story and the truth is, you are only a helper. A do boy, if you will. The reviewers only half got it. There is a reason you are not given a back story. You really don't matter. The central character of this story is your ghost. He is overly curious but needs some muscle to protect him while he goes off scanning this or interfacing with that. That is where you come in. He resurrects you to be that muscle Sure he claims to be your ghost, but your his. He got upset with you for calling him "little light" and making a deal with the awoken in reef without discussing with him first. He was also very excited when you take him to the moon. It also explains why the speaker couldn't really be bothered telling you about the battle that fatally damaged the traveler. Because in the grand scheme of things, you are just a minor actor. There to protect your ghost, as he gathers intelligence on his enemies and reclaims the old technology of a bygone era. *** EDIT *** ( Thanks to Chadogtha) We are called a guardian by our ghost, but not of the last city. We are guardians because that is our role: to guard the spawn of the traveler. When you go to the moon, your ghost was like "oh well. He dead! WHERE IS HIS GHOST!"

(Theory/Rant Ahead) Maybe it's just me but has anyone here ever read Plato's Republic. Because I noticed a huge parallel in the city described with in it and the Last City/Tower. Plato's Republic is a classic piece of Athenian philosophy. In it Socrates speaks of the nature of what is just and unjust. In doing so he speaks of what would be the best society. The city he describes is a triciarch with 3 classes. Working classes, police force, and Guardians. He uses that word "Guardians to describe the intelligent warrior class that protect the city. (See the Parrellel yet?). Well, the Guardians aren't just warriors. They are chosen both by society and through being blesses by gods to become Guardians. They literally are so virtuous they are godly just like WE are touched by the Traveler. The Guardians here in the book are a select few born to serve and lead through strength and wit. Among them is a Philosopher King whom leads the whole city... The Speaker is quite wise, leader of the guardians, literally born of the Traveler . (Interested yet?). Well here's one more for you. Spartans in Halo are based around a Warrior race and war culture with little democracy. Athenian culture is similar to Sparta's in customs the the 2, while existing around together at one point the 2 were very different in political and social views. So then, If Halo is based on real Spartan culture and Destiny on Athenian Philosophy, this making one based around reality and the other a sort of fantasy on what could be, then what does that say about Bungie's new IP? To me it says that they stayed close to their roots but are branching out to a new realm of gameing and ideas at the same time.
