Why Destiny is getting a 6 in 2014.
We need to break this down. Borderlands 1 came out in 2009, 5 years ago. Literally the two are the exact same genre and based around the same idea. Play with friends online, level up get better guns and powers. Loot and shoot rpg. Borderlands out the gate was probably somewhere between double to triple the amount of locations to explore. Destiny has about 4 planets out the gate. Destiny has a level 20 level cap before motes of light borderlands 40. Borderlands certainly had a main story with many funny side quests. Destiny, not so much. Story felt tacked on, hard to follow and going out of your way to make sense of it all makes no sense. Both had vehicles, mini bosses, bosses. Borderlands for a 5 year old game actually felt more explorable- with no return to battlefield counters. Destiny feels bland, stale and with a short6-8 hour campaign borderlands easily gives you 20 hours of campaign to play without extra missions. Borderlands at the time of 2009 recieved mostly 8-9s, reasoning? It was 2009. People expect more than Rachet and Clank style(2001) space ships. They expect No mans sky space exploration especially from a AAA Dev. They want a good story, lots of rewards and extras. Cutting content for DLC is a huge turn off for the average consumer. Bungie get your act together its 2014 not 2001 or 2009. Stop making excuses and give us the game we know you can make. Take risks you spend millions on this game and where did it go? A social game with no social features? No MM for raids? Bland pvp?

My problem is that the devs arent brave enough with the skill trees and weapon/item abilities. I loved the crazy things in borderlands when you equipped a bee shield with the volcano(?) shotgun. There was a lot of crazy stuff that put a smile on your face.

Edited by Zeph: 9/16/2014 7:32:21 PMCause everyone is happy to know we have very limited content as of now, grinding the same instances forever and willing to pay 400$ (4 games, 8 expansions planned, read the contract) for the full experience. It is limited, as the two expansions were most possibly ready at the time of vanilla release already. Please, everyone, stop defending the lacking content; I am a still playing this, still somehow enjoy it, but wont defend the points which do obviously lack... Edit: I was not that crazy about borderlands either. I am playing this game because of the features taken from MMOs - dungeons/raids, which are unique for a shooter. This is a step forward in gameplay for me.

Borderlands was boring in my opinion, story was bland and the art wasn't colorful enough. The main problem with Destiny isn't that it's boring, it's that it's story is horribly conveyed and the isn't that social. It's like the game wants you to be social on the forums.

4 RepliesMeh it's your opinion and your entitled to it. Borderlands game play and graphics havr nothing on destiny just saying. Plus the grind of border lands was terrible. I love both games though and both are good. Just to each their own.

6 Repliesman, you are right. i still like destiny but it got boring quick. borderlands definitely lasted longer than a week for me. but destiny is only a week old, just need to give it some time. but how long is the question lol...

It got a 6 because it is an incredibly Mediocre game, at least as it is now. I don't know what Bungie is adding or if it will be more significant than what we have now, but if they didn't want the mediocrity of the launch content to ruin people's expectations they should have just said the game would have Episodic content, but they didn't, and because of it reviewers Judged the rather shallow game we currently have.

Also, the only people that put any weight in reviews are the ones that can't decide for themselves what THEY like. Lol, you bumped this garbage hahaha Oh and tldr ;)

It's getting a 6 because (by design) the release was not the full game. There is going to be more to the story coming over time. There's a new story mission coming this month. I've come across many areas on the maps that are still blocked off. They are sure to be opened up. The reviews were always going to be poor, because the game is incomplete, and probably will be for many years. It never stood a chance. I don't think the standard review process is fair for something that will be constantly growing.
