Some Constructive Feedback

I just want to start off by saying I really *do* enjoy this game! The ambition behind it is palpable, trying to compensate for the "MMO" aspect across two different platforms, and two different gens of those platforms is certainly no easy task. I know you guys are going to give us lots and lots of goodies in the days to come, and I know many folks have already said their piece on a few other things- the forums are a vast sea that's a little intimidating to comb through, so forgive me if my thoughts appear reduntant! here we go; [b]BALANCING; Respawn Times, Solo Play[/b] The enemies respawn WAY TOO QUICKLY. I have a lot of fun exploring an area and blowing everyone in it up, but it feels like I barely have enough time to check my gear, or take a breath before another drop ship is inbound to drop off another wave- usually right on my head. While there is a lot of thrill to be kept on your toes, and I like a lot of bad guys to kill, having some time to appreciate your hard work would be nice, especially if you're running around solo. Speaking of playing solo, my wife has commented how she feels alienated because she would choose to lone-wolf it. I know this game is about organically meeting people and running around with your fire team, et. al, but solo players should feel fulfilled as well. She's currently a level 4 Hunter Class - we can't play together (my biggest complaint, actually, but I understand why splitscreen wasn't considered) and so clearing out baddies and leveling feels like a pain, and looks like it is for her too. Combined with how fast they respawn in the 'nest' area, it all just plain doesn't feel fun. I don't know how easy it might be for you guys on your end to possibly arrange your timing algorithms to be based on how many folks might be in the same instance at the same time? IE, the more players in an instance, the more frequent the dropships come/ the enemies respawn. Watching my wife play, I have seen her go through areas without seeing a single other player on the map, but encounter the same number of enemies. I feel as though if you cull the herd lone wolf style, you should very much enjoy your victory! Maybe you're already looking at that, but it's on the table anyway! [b]ENEMY AI; Make us fear them[/b] The enemy doesn't seem as intelligent, and yet is also hyper aware? I understand grouping enemies to areas- the maps are huge, and being able to run away is useful sometimes- you don't have to fight every fight. But when you're in the fight, they don't seem as 'smart' or 'tricky' as, say, the Elites were. Sorry to make the comparison- the games are different entities, and these are literally two different beasts. But there was something special about finally taking down that Elite captain who kept rolling away from your pistol fire, and even *laughed* at you about it. (the nerve! but I shut him up good.) As it is now though, while I can get the drop on most of them and feel accomplished, I can mostly get away with well placed shots and being out of cover most of the time while doing so. (unless I'm swarmed- which happens regularly) There very rarely is fear. That fear of our enemies and overcoming them is what's going to make us feel like legends. Or maybe even like *Gods* As far as getting the drop on the enemies, I find it harder to surprise. For sneaky players (like my wife) it is frustrating. The enemies seem hyper aware of your presence. And if the prey you're stalking doesn't see you, the group that just got re-dropped off a short distance away did and ruins the whole hunt! (see what I mean about those spawn times?) ONE MORE THING as far as getting the drop on badguys is concerned; I wonder if we might see assassinate animations in the future? I don't believe so unless we'll be patched in some new emotes in the future. But it would give just that extra amount of pleasure seeing that sweet, animated take-down! This is more a curiosity rather than a critique. [b]OTHERWISE...[/b] I don't have much else to add, actually! Many of the other subjects have been covered already (story content wise, customization options, increasing squad size, more in-game chat options, etc) and I know there is much you have yet to uncover for us! We are only a week since launch after all. And I myself am only at level 8 (at the time of this post - I just did my first Moon mission!) and I've got more story and world to cover. If I do have more suggestions, I will leave them here! (anyone else is welcome to do so as well) ALL THAT HAVING BEEN SAID: I'm having a great time in this world so far. Playing this on an Xbox 360 and it runs like a dream (compared to Skyrim, which was made specifically for that present gen - 360/ps3 - and freezes like crazy, for example) - and seeing and helping my fellow players is a wonderful opportunity (saving people makes me feel like a Space - Batman) Your team has done an excellent job so far, Bungie, And I know you're *still* working hard. I look forward to what you'll be bringing us down the road.

  • This is not a thread bump for attention, but to make an additional comment! I know the RAID is going on at the mo and that is the Big Thing™ right now, but my soon-to-be level ten Titan and I are enjoying running around and making observations. This thread is probably going to be a sort-of blog for my in-game experiences. [B]STORYLINE NAVIGATION[/b] I would have liked a more intuitive way to pursue story missions. When I first got to the Moon I was like "Ah! Awesome!" and spent some time cruising around before doing what was required. After that, the world opened up. In order to proceed to the next story mission, though, I had to go go back into orbit, select it from the map, do mission, and then repeat. I know the idea is to provide easy access to replaying missions on different modes (or for whatever reason!) which is very helpful. But if there is the idea that you want to cultivate an 'open world, come and explore' way of thinking, I feel this is counterintuitive to that end. The patrol missions are meant to be the balance point - land and see what there is to see and kill what there is to kill (and loot. don't forget loot!) but, again, if you decide to stop exploring and experience a story chapter, going to orbit to do that seems very tedious. Perhaps it'll be possible to play organically, land on the newer worlds, and see mission nodes as well as story nodes which, when played, unlock on your star map? And perhaps before then they are greyed out when viewed on your map? Again, just more thoughts! I look forward to the day when I can tackle the raid!
