I Don't Think You Guys Get It

I don't think you guys know what the story was suppose to be Yes, it is suppose to last 1O years but let's focus on Destiny itself It's story for this single installment was nowhere near satisfactory It was very short and didn't expand on its own content Let's start at the beginning You wake up and fight through a wave of Fallen to get out I thought "ok this was a pretty good intro" but then Bungie failed to suck us into the world of Destiny There was no setup You're basically thrown into the world and told to do whatever a flying ball tells you to do Bungie had such a good chance to fill our minds with a rich and creative world but they failed to do that Missions are bland "go here and shoot that" missions which ultimately add up to a short and shallow story Even if this short story is to be continued by DLCs and later titles, the story mechanics need major work It's doesn't go in depth at all They just expect you to go along with whatever they say without questioning any loose ends or anything There are about 3O minutes worth of cutscenes which doesn't quench your thirst to know about the world of Destiny at all Your character is a mindless drone with no personality that just goes wherever he/she is told and does whatever the Ghost tells him/her to do Speaking of which, the Ghost is empty as the voice that plays him It just serves as lazy exposition with no personality or depth The reason Cortana was so successful was because she played an active role in the plot You actually cared about her whereas the Ghost is just there to tell you what to do and where to go He's only there when needed There are practically no supporting characters and what little there are, have no personality This leads to a rather empty and unfulfilling world The lack of depth really turns me off from the game Even worse is that Bungie really stressed this PvE thing over the multiplayer which led everyone to believe that this part of the game was going to be the biggest and most immersive part of the game too But it ended up being as bland as a COD story Also, tone The toony happy go lucky attitude of the game really derails from that post apocalyptic world of Destiny And they can't maintain the epic feel of it either It's very inconsistent and I have no idea what I'm suppose to be feeling half the time Grimore is a terrible way to tell the story No one wants to read the story online They want to experience it first hand in all the awe Destiny has to offer They should make smaller side missions which expands on each part of the game like side missions that have you exploring the Fallen or side missions which have you diving into the past of the Darkness The worst part is that Bungie purposely held back on this project They already had DLCs planned before the release of the game They purposely held stuff back like Resputin so that they would have content "later on" They should've given it their all and then come up with more content as they think of it And for those of you who think that DLCs are going to save the game, I laugh at you Bungie has been working on this for 5 years You really think that everything is going to be all better after they release small content that they've only been working on for a few months? Overall, if the story is suppose to be told over 1O years but each installment is as bland as this one, it won't be a good story The whole 1O year story will add up to as much content as one Fallout game Also, make the enemies different Besides their looks and names, they have have the same weapons, attack style, and overall play strategies And the locations too They're just different in looks Make one planet really obscure with traps around every corner Make another map focused on verticality with different techniques to survive Weapons too They're all bullet weapons with no different mechanics I'd like to see guns that have tracking rounds or that fires a stream Vehicles need work too I would add vehicles that have multi person slots since this is such a "social game" Or even flying ones Just more diversity in general Finally exotics When I find an exotic, I don't feel like I accomplished much It's just a gun with more damage or something It should have awesome feature like firing explosive rounds or firing black holes Same concept with armor too Now I know not everyone is disappointed but as you can see, a lot of the forum is not happy and even you know that the story needs some work I'm just disappointed that they had 5 years to work on this with the biggest promises I've seen from a game, only to blow it TL;DR The story, regardless of whether or not it's taking place over 1O years, is far too short for one installment of the game and it needs improving But besides that, the world is pretty cool and the multiplayer is fun Just my opinion on how the story could be fixed

 • I've gotta say as much as I'm enjoying the game it's mostly because I'm a loot whore. It's frustrating that I can't chat to people in my vicinity, and apparently not one person is interested in joining a fire team. I find it strange that so many people are wanting to solo through the game when you really get no emotion out of it. You can go for hours with roughly ten words of dialogue. I agree with you completely about the story and variation on the mechanics. If the expansions are just more of the same I'll be a little sad. That said I find the gameplay fun, but there's only so far that can carry it if you don't feel invested in the world.
