I am a pilot and as much as id love for bungie to include a ship flying mechanic i believe it wouldnt be very good and somewhat of an afterthought. The best way i could think of to make ships not entirely aesthetic would be to introduce a super style orbital bombardment, with different ship classes having different attributes such as accuracy, blast radius etc. Maybe it could only be used once a day to keeps things fair.
