My Opinion on Destiny Has Changed
I posted two days ago that my negative opinion on Destiny--based on the BETA--had changed to a positive one... this is no longer the case. After playing Destiny for the better portion of five days, I can say that with all honesty, Destiny is a shallow mess of a "game", clearly designed as an arbiter for DLC. PvP is an unbalanced, laggy mess, Patrol is shallow and boring as all hell, and the great backstory in which Joe Statan wrote is pretty much not in the game, what-so-ever.
Basically every flaw I pointed out pre-launch is a reality, reflected in poor review scores and negative feedback. Even the ones telling me that I was wrong about Destiny are opening their eyes to this mess of a game. Nothing but lies and overhype.
Bungie died after Halo. What a waste.
Edit: If you're going to reply to me with something along the lines of "Destiny is like an MMO at launch, that's why there's so little content." - just stop. It's clear that most of you have no prior experience with MMOs. GW2, FFXIVARR, WoW and TOR - all four games had mountains worth of more content than Destiny during their respective launch periods.
It seems that there is always some excuse as to why Destiny isn't lacking, be it, "It was a BETA", "It's going to be updated", "Wait for the DLC", or just simply, "You're bad at the game".
Some of the replies I have recieved are truly hilarious. I really do hope that you continue to enjoy Destiny if you already are, but these are some serious problems with the game in which Bungie needs to acknowledge.

although i dont agree ( i do enjoy the game) i see where your coming from, its a AAA game, that alone should be reason enough for there to be more depth to nearly everything, the missions do feel repetitive and there is not much difference in the content, strikes are just longer versions of missions. Bungie have a chance to change it with dlc like queens wrath but i doubt it. Pvp is fun in my opinion, i have no negative things to say about it other then getting kicked way too much. I love destiny because its fun to play with friends and when im on my own i just happen to like pvp.

The story was an absolute let down. They've never been the best when it comes to character development, or particularly long campaigns, but that was probably the most shallow story I've played since titanfall. That being said there's room to add to it in dlc, whether it's giving us more back story or simply expanding on what has already been presented. I'm interested to see what they're going to do there. Secondly there's the scale of the game, or really lack thereof. Sure the areas we play I the moon, Venus, etc seem pretty big, but the fact that I can skip across it in 2 minutes is kind of a let down. So open up the planets. What does the rest of earth look like after the fall? Show us just how big Olympus mons is on mars. Show us the vast underground network on the moon, not just a tiny portion. Perhaps they will do this in the dlc, but what I'm expecting is just add ons or different mission in old russia, sunken city, etc. Here's to hoping. Thirdly, the bosses. Either you make it so I don't waste 20 to 30 minutes shooting this thing or you give me a whole lot more loot, because it's not enjoyable to go into a match knowing you'll slave away for a good portion of an hour and get next to nothing for it. And I swear to God if I get one more legendary helmet for a class that isn't mine... Those are my biggest issues with the game thus far that can be fixed.

13 RepliesI think you're just bad at it. There's no latency in the multiplayer at all. It's a great game, even if the story is lacking context. Definitely a better cooperative play than all of the other shooters out there. Sit down

I think the game play is fine(very enjoyable, I'm still putting in hours). Endgame content is what it is for almost all MMOs, though I hope it's VERY episodic. Personally, PvP will sustain me for a bit. The story is really the only flaw. It shouldn't be mostly told via Grimoire cards, and if it is, let us read them in the -blam!-ing game!

Personally I love the game. Yes the campaign is extremely lacking but I love the lack of explanations because now there's a mystery to solve. I don't think the PVP is broken you just need to understand how the various supers and weapons work in order to counter them. The strikes so far while repetitive are tons of fun and a great challenge, I can't wait for the vault. And the promise of new (or variations on current) content every day, week, and month keeps me coming back. I'm not sure how long this will last but I'm here for the long term and I'll enjoy it while it lasts. :) I'm sorry if it wasn't what you were looking for but there are plenty of other games out there. To each their own my friend, to each their own. :)

1 ReplyI love how everyone on both sides gets so defensive. It's titled stating his opinion has changed. The keyword there is opinion. There is no need to attack the guy for stating what he is entitled to. I respect it either way. Now I enjoy this game. I didn't get into the hype of it from the start and I realize its lacking in certain areas. This game is meant to be played casually, you can't overload yourself on it or it will get repetitive. The crucible certainly needs some work, and patrol is definitely enjoyable for me ( I've always found PvE to be more enjoyable for me ). I like what this game can lead up to and I am going to find out for sure. Anyways I hope you keep the game buddy and if not I hope you find the right game for you. Good luck.

1 ReplyTo each their own. I'm enjoying it. No, it doesn't have a ton of content, but it beats the shit out of farming any more Borderlands 2 gear. I needed something to let me farm gear, this did that, so I'm good with it. I'm in an awesome clan that is really active, so I get the friendship element I'm looking for, and I really enjoy the game mechanics. My suggestion to you is, move on. Find something that works for you and leave it at that. Thanks for your opinion though. Cheers!

While I won't disagree to your post entirely, as you do have some valid points, I will point out some flaws in your comparisons. WoW, which I played since beta up until a year or two ago, was a mess. Utter white at launch. Most of the game didn't work. There was no PvP whatsoever, just roaming groups of 60s stumbling into other groups and ganking them. Nothing that grew WoW into the powerhouse it became in its heyday existed. These were ask later implementations. Much the same can be said about FF. Dozens of people standing around for hours our days waiting for one rare spawn to hopefully get a chance at one rare item. The system was flawed beyond belief. Yes, Destiny has been at let down for some and has some glaring issues (my biggest complaint being the engram system and PvP rewards doing nothing at all to encourage skilled play, as well as no ranking system). But it is a case of "to each their own". Some people will love the game for what it is, others will love it despite what it is, and still others won't be able to look past what they consider to be insurmountable flaws in design or broken promises. Again I say, "to each their own". Best of luck and happy hunting.

I do agree that the lack of content in this game is disturbing (I'm vader lol), but I guess I'm just a weirdo who, out of all the complaints and whatnot, just doesn't care. At all. I'll throw my money if there's DLC (as long as it's good).

2 Repliessorry but this is hilarious, I have never had any lag at all. Patrols for me a blast, nothing life changing just fun alternative to PVP at end game. It will be better when when get champion ranks and much higher difficulties, to present more of a challenge. As for PVP being unbalanced, that is beyond funny, we hear that for every single game that has ever been created and will be created. And most games even after launch balance remains this mythical thing people complain about. Balance is always an ongoing thing, especially to a game like this where the game we are given at launch is the final game but merely the first step. Thats like complaining about an mmo at launch, compared to what they become. The problem sounds like you want to compare this to a MMO in a conventional sense, its not, so it will always fall short to those type of games feature. Likewise it is not strictly a FPS so it fails short when comparing to those. It is its own beast where as you are judging it for what it is not, when you should be celebrating the fact it is not trying to do the same old tired thing that we get from all post WOW MMO's and yearly Call of Duty games.

1 ReplyThe patrol missions are crushingly disappointing. When I think of an open world game like Skyrim and its sidequest missions and then of Destiny and its patrol missions I notice a bit of a gap there.... Why aren't they more diverse and interesting?

18 RepliesGame hasn't even been out a week, raid gets activated tomorrow, you're not fully geared yet, aka you are not legend. I don't have any lag in crucible, and the only advantages to higher levels is having access to different abilities. Bungie has made it clear that new content will be continuously added, including two already announced expansion packs. There is no monthly sub to this game, so I'm perfectly fine with paying for DLC (read: expansion packs) every so often. Also, anyone with MMO experience should know how smooth of a launch this was with a majority of the community being able to jump on and play as soon as they could get a copy. Most MMOs crash on their face on launch day, but not Destiny. This is a great foundation for a game that itself will become legend. Your loss if you're not around for it, but the community is better off without negative nacys like yourself.
