Getting rid of BEAVER and LEOPARD, what seemed to work for me

During beta I had a regular show of LEOPARDs in missions and the tower was nearly inaccessable with BEAVERs blocking my way 9 out of 10 times. "Oh well, it's beta" is what I thought. Come launch, the problems had decreased, but still the occasional leopard and perhaps 60-75% of the time beavers on tower access. Since no one of my friends shared this experience I concluded that the problem was perhaps on my end after all. I fiddled with all sorts of router settings (uPnP, DMZ, portforwarding, porttriggering) but nothing helped making it better, which is rather strange since especially DMZ should be completely opening up access. So, only possibility remaining is that the hardware of the router was not up to par, or the custom firmware my ISP put on their modem/router sucked (which I believe to be the most likely case). As a last resort I set the ISP's router to bridge mode (e.g. just passthrough internet, don't try doing anything "smart") and hung an Apple Airport Extreme behind it as router. I only played for one night, but I've had zero, yes zero, issues so far. No sign of leopards and the tower has been 100% accessible now (10+ tries). While it might be a bit premature to draw a real conclusion, I do believe it's fixed for me. So, if all else fails, you might want to try this for yourself if you experience the same errors. Good luck out there Guardians.

  • Hats of to you for being one of the few people who actually try things instead of being lazy and blaming Bungie for it all!

      • Darn I wish I could try this but sadly I can't due to the fact that I'm on a university network.

      • Update: It's been a few days now and I still haven't seen any single error since my network setup changes. So for me, this was indeed the solution.

        • Wow! Thanks, I'll keep that in mind (having the same issues here on PS3). First step is getting my PS3 hooked directly to my modem, and I hope this will solve my issues. I personally think it's the router, because sometimes the errors are there and sometimes they're not. So an ethernetcable will keep my connection more stable. It's not my internet itself though, I doubt Telenet fibernet won't be able to access Destiny, lol.
