NEW VIDEO! - Secrets of the Traveler: Savior or Necromancer?

Thanks to all of those who posted their great theories in this forum! I wanted to go over so many of them in depth, and hopefully will someday (especially when we revisit to see if anyone was right!). Don't forget to SHARE this, and other videos, with your friends. Let's pull as many in to the conversation as we can! Enjoy!

  • And then there's my thoughts on it, that it is an a fairly independent extension of some greater being/entity that acts out of both motives. By the way, what do you use to make your videos?

    • I like the theory that the traveler IS the darkness and is simply giving us false hope only to attack us

Neither. I see the Traveller as a combination of the Monolith from "2001" and the Vorlons from the TV series "Babylon 5". A "shape" (container) for a consciousness/being of pure energy that can manipulate the fundamental forces of the Universe...and goes around promoting the evolution of sentient life through promoting Order, Creation, and Cooperation. Whereas the Darkness is a similar being...but who takes an opposing approach. Going around promoting the evolution of sentient life through Chaos, Conflict and "Creative" Destruction. Like the Shadows from Babylon 5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--IMj2x_GDk This is a scene from the last episode of the 4th season of Babylon 5. It is a million years into the future, and humans have evolved (like the Vorlons before them) into beings of pure sentient energy. They are leaving the Solar system behind and are destroying it by forcing the Sun to go nova. First to keep younger races that are not ready for that level of technology from gaining access to it...and to destory an ancient race of energy beings who were servants of darkness and pain who were exiled to Earth by a previous generation of "First Ones" (Lost Tales). This is what I see when I look at the Traveller. An energy being who is caught in a struggle with the Darkness for the right to make over the galaxy in its own image.

            • My theory is that the traveller is actually a prison for the leader of the darkness and the leader was keeping the fallen and hive in check and thas why you see them fight. Plus the leader has a small hold over the speaker and is waiting for the right moment to strike. Also the reason the traveller can bring the guardians back to life is that the traveller used the technology of the darkness and combined it with light to make the ghosts.

The speaker is using the guardians to hold the traveler hostage and the vex are coming back in time to try and save it. Half life 3 confirmed

              • Frankly I hope the Traveler isn't the bad guy, reason being is because that would be cliche. It'd be a plot twist but a boring overused one (not much of a twist). As for the Traveler itself I'd look at the Ghosts. Are the Ghosts AI or are they like the Vex where they are organic and synthetic? Its possible that the Traveler, seeing as it created the Ghosts, is similar to them.

              • My brother and I speculate that it's a type of self aware drone that was sent by a "type 3" civilization with the hopes that it would spread technology and help lower forms of life evolve to a "type 1" civilization, which could be the catalyst for all the ancient stories and religions that speak of civilizations coming from the heavens and bringing technology. After the traveler came, we got off oil, used efficient forms of energy, multiplied our life span and explored other planets. Seems a bit out there, but it works.

:D thank you for the shout out, that was very kind. I just enjoy talking about it. PS: More Destiny lore videos, it's keeping us sane as we wait plus I look forward to us all looking back at what we all said & then say after we beat Destiny as a review lol - keep up the awesome videos even after Destiny release if you can Killworthy but remember to keep it fun for yourself :) That aside, I read through some things said here & around by my fellow Guardians, also your video & it has gotten me thinking with my current thought. What if The Traveler will always remain mysterious & that it is basically a God it's body is a planet form, hence why we don't see it directly communicating itself much, isn't it sometimes about believeing rather then knowing? Also we know how humans see ourselves, we kinda see ourselves as a tough, original, thoughtful race maybe The Traveler felt humanity & the other 2 races were it's best bet against The Darkness. But then again for all we know maybe it was a bit of both survival & emotion, maybe The Traveler was just sick of running & didn't want to see the human race die. The Traveler could be a being of Order & The Darkness is a being of chaos, both doing the samethings just in opposite ways which would connect to The Good God vs Evil God thought. Also Priest stated something that reminds me of Mass Effect like The Protheans sending The Crucible on to the next cycle. But it could truely be something that just did it for a political reason, but if it is emotionless & was doing it for survival that would hinder a lot of what we know so far. But then again that might just make the story all the more interesting Demon's Souls lore was very unique when it came to God. Actually WHAT IF The Traveler is The Darkness? What if it has a split persona, when asleep it's good but when it's time to wake, it becomes The Darkness so it ran away at the last sec to force itself to sleep to prevent humanity from dieing or humanity (maybe The Awoken) forced The Traveler back to sleep, but that would conflict with it running from away from The Darkness story somewhat, or maybe it truely did go off to fight/draw away The Darkness because (I would assume) a fight between a Good & Evil God would be insane....

                  • My thing about the travler made me think of many religions as the speaker spoke in the beta saying how the travler gave its life making these ghosts made me think of Life of Pi in the part about the priest. saying "All you have to know is that he loves us" and you don't question it you just accept it as face value. also in the bible god resurrects jesus to help humans see the light in belief. well I don't know about you but in the beginging of the beta my ghost ressruected me from 100's of years of death and decay to help battle against the darkness. If you look at it as a whole. the travler is like the ultimate relic in a battle of good versus evil. it can be A.I contruct like in halo some what that helps, but or it can be another theory of a ancient race who build these travlers as some sort of garden of eden. all the travler has done was travel world to world of our solar system turning planets we deemed. Uninhabitable, and this travler shows up and gives several planets life where we couldn't, I don't know seems almost to good to be true, as they say all good things can be undone, I mean maybe the travler crated the darkness, Maybe all the darkness is a collection of species trying to destroy the travler since it may have ruined there worlds. As far as we know there is only one of them maybe there were more and were destroyed by this collaboration of sorts. The travler finding them possibly obsolete for the gift that has been gifted to the humans and the other sub races of there struggles. I don't know could be a crazy theory all I know is of the many races there all after the travler and those that continue to protect it.

Hey Killworthy, the ISEEA guy from FB here. I'm starting to write the article we discussed, but I felt as though I might post this portion of it here - to add my voice to the Traveler discussion! The Chosen Ones There is undoubtedly something different about the overall feel of Destiny’s mythic science fiction setting. It is distinct from Halo’s heavily biblical and ‘hard-sci-fi’ feel, and feels much more ethereal - almost like it could have been interpreted from an ancient fairy tale. Throughout the lore of and aesthetic of Destiny, Bungie’s descriptions of events, characters and weapons dance off the page with an almost Tolkienian flavour. There is a weight and gravitas being channeled from the very same perennial, classic story elements as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings once did, with their own unique interpretations and retellings of them. At it’s core, Destiny is the story of a lost child, Humanity, stranded and alone in the Galaxy, and of the mysterious Mother-figure, The Traveler, who came out of no where to tend to us - to save us. It must have heard our cry from on high, seen how astray our species was, fighting amongst ourselves - and yet, at heart, full of potential for light and good. It’s the story of humanity being found, held close and cared for by this benevolent presence, and in the process also finding and learning to care for itself. For a peacefully long-lasting Golden Age, we began realising our potential as a species. We started seeing in ourselves what The Traveler first saw when it chose to bless us with it’s unimaginable gifts. Sadly, It’s also the story of how this child come to discover, to our great tragedy and terrible loss, that our Mother figure was, like humanity, itself astray when it found us - fleeing from an ancient Enemy, who has pursued it for countless aeons - The Darkness. And so, much like the prototypical prologue sequence involving a Mother, suddenly realising an unstoppable aggressor has come for her and her Child, who dies defending us - and with her last words, tells us to be strong, to be brave, and that it’s up to us now, to do what she’s no longer able to. Those ‘last words’ are the Ghosts - sentient pieces of the Traveler created at the moment of it’s sacrifice, who, like the real last words of a beloved departed one, have come to us in our time of need to pick us up, bring us back from our fears, and finally become what the Traveler once believed to be our Destiny - The Light, shining across the Galaxy, ever-burning through The Darkness.
