"You may never finish Destiny."

quoted from deej himself. is he threatening my life or something? if not, can we please dispense with all the dopey pr stuff? it's great they have ambition, but there's no way this game will deliver on half this nonsense. it's becoming less of a tangible and more of a "feeling" passing into the ether. the only way this game has any chance to live up to this kind of hype is if it turns into jesus christ himself. "Here at Bungie, you don't finish our games. Our games finish you."
"Here at Bungie, you don't finish our games. Our games finish you."
Oh, really? We'll see how that goes. I like it when developers try to kick our asses. It makes beating their games so much more satisfying.

Whenever you get close to the end of the all the current content, Destiny sends a signal to Bungie with your location so that their hit team can break into your house while you sleep and chop you hands off, ensuring no one ever completes all the content.

That's very true. If No Man's Sky lives up to the hype I don't think I'll be finishing Destiny much longer after NMS releases.

          • Yeah and you could see that in the beta. Its the random generated side quests you get. Like in skyrim.

            • maybe not finishing, but many games got a point where people are getting tired of it and the added stuff will become repetetive. we'll see how bungie manages this game. the potential is great

Maybe this was taken out of context, you never know, or it was meant as a joke. His prose including "Christmas Noobs" leads me to think so. Deej's not 12, lol. Would have been OK to simply say PvP game play is awesome and it will always feel fresh. I'm not the PR person so, whatever.

              • It is his (dejee's) job to publicize and get a customer base hyped to spread the word about the game. That said, it is fun to get excited for a new release, but never hurts to be a little skeptic. Also it can be dangerous to a games reputation if it over sensationalize itself.

              • You can never "finish" a game that has infinite gear progression and will most likely have events and content patches down the road

              • I'm looking forward to it very much but I imagine it will be like diablo, it will be great at first, after 2 weeks it will get repetitive and you'll find it hard to upgrade gear.

                  • Hes just referring to the open ended gameplay! Most people will finish the missions and gather the rare loot! I reckon i will finish the story missions within a few weeks

                  • If it's true that they are supporting it for 10 years then yeah, somme people probably won't finish the game.

                    • Yeah that was indeed a PR statement. This game is not going to be that long in terms of the story and what missions etc are available at release. So whilst technically that statement may be correct, as others said due to players attention spans etc. Anyone that enjoys all aspects of the game will easily finish everything eventually. What annoys me with that statement is that the context is this: Gamer to Bungie - "I've completed the game! Give me more!" Bungie to gamer - "Oh, what about the HARD difficulty?" Gamer to Bungie - "Ahh, no. Not yet." Bungie - "So you haven't completed everything. There's so much more to do!" In reality... Gamer - "Of course I've done everything on the hard difficulty. I only played on the harder difficulties the entire game. Who do you think I am? Some kid?"

                    • The truth is, many people never finish the campaigns of games that last longer than a few hours. Less than 60% of players finished ME2. That was a relatively high % compared to DA:O, DA II, ME and ME3. He's probably right quite honestly. There are probably a number of people here (and even more people that aren't on the forums) that will never finish the game.

                      • I can sort of see what Deej meant by never being able to beat the game, but there will be a point when people decide to stop playing. There will be an end to the replay value, there will be an end to the consistency of delivering new content, there will be people saying "there's nothing to do". In a game like TESIV: Skyrim, there's what's called dynamic content. Sure you've done all the quests, but there's always one that will respawn and give you something to do, or there's someone who attacks you on the roads. That might not sound fun, but that's my point; the game may not end but the fun certainly can. I think the way a lot of people read the article is that the game is going to consistently deliver content, but if there's one thing I've noticed from the persistent online world game it's that's very rarely the case. Sure for a few months Destiny might bring patches and expansions, but then what? What will happen months down the line? Just because the content can't be completed, doesn't mean it should be strained for every bit of its worth when there's fresher games coming out that will be more appealing as I become more bored. What Destiny needs, as much as we all hate it, is some form of grinding to keep you occupied. Doing PvP will be fun especially when it's limitless, as will PvE content.... but there's no point where the game says "that's enough" and gives a satisfying ending. You'll just play until you get bored, and that might lead you to disappointment when playing in future and bitterness. I've seen this so much with MMOs and other 'online persistent world games' and I fear Destiny will be no different. Hopefully the reputations can keep people occupied enough before the new ones are added. I sure hope that Deej and his team can deliver on what they've said. The Destiny community has a fiery passion I've noticed, and woe betide Bungie should people be let down. I'm as excited for what Destiny will offer as the next person is, but I'm not niave enough to believe that there will be an end to the enjoyment to be had.
