I was bored so I wrote my characters backstory.

So this is the only fanfic I've ever written. I'm writing my own stuff but I was bored, I want to play Destiny and I love theorizing. So here's my Exo hunters first person account of the end of the golden age.
We were living, truly living. Nothing we'd experienced before compared. Not the first lungfuls of air, triumph over fire, not even the moment we realized we were. It was all just a preamble to this. Every errant gene, gone. All trace of illness, hatred, boundaries, pollution and poverty. The traveler helped us eradicate it all. What came before barely qualified as civilization. And yet... death. Long lived we had become, but not eternal. We'd pushed our bodies to their limits. Centuries spent nearly ageless, but still that unavoidable collapse. Then we unraveled the secret of what made us... us. The ineffable electronic impulses we had long called the soul. Before we learned to cultivate new natural bodies and migrate our spark into them we were able to imprint onto artificial ones. The Exo. We rejoiced anew. Though these bodies were only the first part of our journey towards immortality, the accomplishment was a herald of our next great triumph, vanquishing the reaper. Nothing comes without cost however, most of all eternal life. We hardly noticed at first. It was vague, like the spots in someone's eyes when they stare into a clear sky. Each of the Exo felt it eventually. Some simply left. They awoke as if from a dream and walked heedlessly into the sea. Others became increasingly withdrawn, speaking rarely, even to those closest to them. We all felt it, we existed, but we weren't truly living. Then the darkness came. I welcomed it near the end, most Exo did. Many marched right into fallen encampments unarmed once it was clear we had lost the fight. At least in death we could find relief from the gnawing void. We, I, could rest. Untold the ghost found me. For the briefest moment I thought I'd transcended to some realm we assumed was only myth, but no, the ache was still there reminding me I only played at being alive. The ghost told me of the end of the golden era as if I hadn't seen it myself, how he'd searched for me for ages. He said we had a second chance. If we'd had enough time we'd have found a way to cast off these shells we inhabit, but the darkness stole that from us. We'll probably lose this fight but as long as this damned husk I inhabit functions I will hunt down the servants of darkness. I will find an end to this emptiness, either by destroying the darkness or by diving headlong into it.
