The Playstation network was offline yesterday (Sunday 24th) due to a cyber attack. Xbox Live and some other gaming networks were also hit
With destiny's release only 2 weeks away, I hope any possible future hacks or cyber attacks against the console servers won't also force the bungie/activision servers offline - I imagine that destiny is exactly the kind of big online game that the hacking group would likely want to target
-
Plot twist: The hacker group is also addicted to Destiny and by forcing the Bungie/Activision servers offline they would only be hurting themselves. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

It was a attack via DDos. Not a hack. Stop spreading unnecessary propaganda that may potentially attract fanboyism.

Day 1 of release on PSN: Server crash, major down time. Day 9+: Hacks, crashes, more hacks. Day 1 on XBL: Small chance of crash, short down time. Day 9+: .1% of PSN's issues have a chance of happening. Moral: PSN's security is a POS. they spend too much on the exclusivity of Destiny (and far too low memship costs) to even pay to upgrade their defense. XBL may have higher costs, but it has been hacked (to my knowledge) once and was down 1-2 days (as to PSN's like month?). Plus we (XBL) who wish to continue where Bungie left Halo will be chillin with less populated servers and worlds, which as a PvEr, I enjoy. Less people=less server strain=less potential problems.
As to the Halo bit, it just means a waste of $ to get another console for 1 game when Halo continues on X1.
Edited by JasonLeeJames: 8/30/2014 2:24:23 PMThe lizard dudes are threatening to catch bungie with a ddos so it would affect us all. (Idk if they will or won't)

Wait, they DONT have secure networks...hmmm...maybe instead of investing the money for exclusive dlc maybe they should use it to improve the system...hmmmmmmmmmmm.....captain heinsight should be here. He'd help us!

Not a hack. NOT a hack. NOT. A. HACK. DDOS : Distributed Denial of Service. Look it up. This is categorically NOT a hack. Every other, EVERY OTHER, network is susceptible to a DDOS attack. DDOS also can not access user data. In the same way that if a person screams at you it keeps you from hearing other people but your wallet is still safe.

Edited by Wikidsik: 8/29/2014 5:02:18 PMAnd they wouldn't target destiny. They targeted sony to prove a -blam!-ing childish point. Kind of shit idiots do.. just my 2p worth hehe
-
Xbox wasn't really hit at all, and if they were, no effects were felt
-
Why is this in feedback... #justsayin'

No service is invincible or unbreachable

Edited by Kardain: 8/26/2014 6:33:29 AMThe title is incorrect. It was a ddos, not a hack. If you want to know what was a hack, go see what happened in 2011. Edit: title has been corrected it seems... Disregard this post.

No it was a DDoS spam, meaning that the system was overloaded with commands.
