Hello Destiniverse,
The new Iron Banner multiplayer video got me thinking - how will Bungie deal with the matchmaking for the Iron Banner? I mean, there's no way that they'd throw in a lvl 10 in a game with a lvl 20...right? If they did that, wouldn't the Iron Banner essentially just become endgame content, as playing with a character who's level is anything under 29 or 30 (or whatever max it is) will just get destroyed? Will the matchmaking be as such where you will only be matched to games with players as the same level as you? Perhaps they'll bracket your level with players +/- 2,3,5 levels of your character?
Anyone have any insight?
Thanks,
_Ohuigin

As far as I know, Iron Banner allows all advantages from gear and even levels. So it's most likely a 20s only or prepare to be wrecked.
-
I think it's level based?

It just says bring your best gear so as far as I know that's the only thing that will give anyone an advantage. If they have armor with 500 defense and yours is 300 regardless how many levels difference you are they are going to have an upper hand. Good thing there is the crucible. I'm not setting foot in the iron banner until I have some good gear.
-
Does it matter? If it's like the Beta (and I hope it is), you can get Iron Banner loot drops regardless of performance.
-
I'm more concerned about proper gear rewards for the Iron Banner.

A player of any level with any level of gear can enter. So yes, you can ave level 8s going up against level 29s (motes of light to go past 20).

I'm pretty sure someone who independently data mined information mentioned that there will be three tiers of matchmaking: 6-9, 10-14, and 15-20. I vaguely remember specific details, but there could have been a 4th tier for levels beyond level 20.

Anyone know if the Banner is 24/7 or specific times like the Beta

Edited by Fury : 8/13/2014 6:44:41 AMI considered them like raids you run everyone one of them with your clan/crew or face the consequences. I only ran one 30 min stretch in the banner with strangers and the failures were epic! I ran all the others with my clan and we won all of them except 1. We even carried some level 3 through 5 matches. It's communication as well as equipment that matters.

On XBL you will be match-made using TrueSkill. If you have a similar rating you will play together, regardless of rank.

Since the game is dependent on your gear I would assume they would only match you with similarly leveled/geared people... Otherwise it will probably be a broken playlist. I'm hoping they implement a rank system which can be used to match us.
