I feel like crafting might be an idea?... When I had an overstock of weapons I kept feeling the need to dismantle them... But I also started feeling like I should be able to use the parts to craft my own weapons... Not just use the spare parts for upgrades. Crafting would add a second level of difficulty in finding good armor and weapons because then you not only need a layout of the item, but the parts to make it... Which may or may not be hard to get, especially when it's a super rare drop and the a few required items are just as rare to find! Also, a trade system could be cool... If someone has an item that'll help you out, or they just don't want it, they could put it to good use and give it to you. Or, if you have a rare sniper, but suck at sniping, and have a friend who is AMAZING at sniping, while they have a rare hand gun, but lack the experience with hand guns that you have, you can trade the item! Idk... Just thoughts...
