Bungie Please (PvE Crossplatform?)
I remember reading a while back that the reason Destiny doesnt have cross platform gaming is because of a "perception among gamers that better hardware means you have an advantage". I've thought about it a lot and I wont disagree with it, because some people do feel that way (though the "advantage" isnt much and TV's themselves can actually affect differences in display as well), but even so I think there should be cross platform gaming, even if it's just PvE and not PvP cross platform.
I have a group of friends that I have been playing PS3 games with for awhile now, and with the release of next gen, some have moved onto PS4 (occasionally we still play some PS3 games together). It would be a lot more convenient for me and my friends to be able to play between new and last gen consoles, so that I wont have to buy a new gen just to be able to play with them, or they have to buy another copy of Destiny just to play with me (unless this was the idea, a marketing strategy to get more game copies sold; then -sigh-).
Also with the announcements of "no matchmaking for raids", I feel that having PvE cross platform would be beneficial. The whole idea behind the no matchmaking was so then there would be better communication and "chemistry" between the fireteam. I can agree with that, but being able to play with actual friends and not random guild members/friends added for the purpose of raids would make this much easier and enjoyable.
Finally, a big selling point of Destiny for me was its focus on multiplayer, and having no cross platform (even for just PvE) makes me a bit disappointed. But with the inclusion of PvE cross platform I feel that the game would be much more enjoyable and accessible to play with friends. Im sure in a game like Destiny, including cross platform (even if just between PS3/PS4 and 360/One) wouldnt be too much extra effort and not having cross platform just because not wanting to deal with whiny people is lame.

I would love to be able to play with previous gen consoles. I understand that Sony-MS isn't possible but given that it all translates to net code, PS4 - PS3 should be doable in some form, unless they actually restrict the number of objects on PS3 compared to PS4. Given that, I can see why they haven't, and personally I think it's to do with money. More people would stick with older gen (less consoles sold for Sony), less copies sold if people want to play with both gen, PS3 players don't have to pay to play but PS4 do. That resolution advantage excuse is fluff as far as I'm concerned.

I hope they do include this at some point. They used the excuse of resolution as to why they didn't include it. Meaning PS4 will have more pixels and therefore an advantage but if it was optional and people were aware of this, with a notification before entering cross platform mode for example, then it shouldn't be a big deal.

Playing on ps4 doesn't seem different at all, or majorly to playing at my brothers on his xbone. Its probably something to do with Sony and whatever deal Activision has with them with the exclusive content for the ps4. Edit1: after looking into this I realise the intention was for same-company cross platform, I revoke what I said, as dumb and not researched enough. PvE cross platform would seem sound, but I trust bungie did research and enough playtesting to make this decision of theirs a good one, even if we can't see it, I trust they saw the issues for us.

I personally would love this! I have destiny on Xbox one and ps4. 2 groups of friends, would be nice to share loot and such and not have to have 2 separate accounts. The reason they said no before was pvp but in pve there is no advantage given.

I would absolutely die of happy if Bungie made pve able to be cross platform between ps3 and ps4. Literally all of my friends have moved to ps4, but I simply can't afford a ps4 and am stuck on ps3. I love destiny to death, but it's all about getting together with friends. Without that kind of interaction, I don't know how much longer I'll really want to play destiny. And it's really just because I'm lonely. I don't really want to play with strangers. I don't want to talk to random people. I want to raid with my friends. I want to chat with people I know.

I'm in the same boat. I've got about 6 friends playing but we are evenly split across platforms. None of us are interested in PvP or care about potential disparities based on system performance. We would all like cross-platform play for PvE.

Anyone that's voting, it would be nice if you commented and/or like the post, especially if you think that there should be cross platform. This way this thread wont get piled over by others and that there will be a chance Bungie can see this, even if it's just to say you agree. If you dont agree I would also like to know why because I cant think of anything negative and dont see any serious harm in cross platform.
