MM Debate

Okay, I'm going to chime in here on the whole matchmaking debate for raids. I'm thinking there's a knowledge gap here due to the fact that many gamers that are into shooters aren't necessarily the same gamers that enjoy MMOs. End game progressional raids are not something that gets done with PUGs. Ever. Period. They are designed to be tackled over and over again, one challenge at a time. The enemies are too high level and too numerous to be half-arsed through. There are puzzles involved. You need to be able to communicate at all times to succeed. If there was random Matchmaking, if even a single person didn't have a mic you would be guaranteed to fail. If your gear loadout/class build isn't properly coordinated with the rest of the group, you will be guaranteed to fail. While Bungie could add a Matchmaking system to raids, no one would use it because you would never succeed at the raid if you used it. Raids are not for the casual gaming crowd. If you can't get together with 5 of your friends and spend 4 hours raiding, then you shouldn't consider raiding. If you don't have enough friends playing Destiny, and you don't plan on joining a clan in order to be able to set up a time to attempt raiding, then don't consider raiding. If one person gets frustrated and leaves, raid is over. If one person goes 'AFK' randomly, raid is probably over. It's not a ploy to stretch the 'gameplay' of Destiny. It's not to keep people from playing the raid. Raids are meant to be tackled by serious Guardians, coordinating their efforts. It's hardcore. I don't know how else to explain a raid to someone that's never raided before. They are not for the faint of heart or those fickle in their conviction. Serious business.

I might be repeating myself, but seriously, the amount of people who are so god damn hung up on the name of the -blam!-ing activity is beyond ridiculous. Yes, they are called raids. Yes, Bungie says they we're aiming to capture a similar experience that MMO raids have within a shooter. No, that does not mean you can make a single -blam!-ing comparison to fuel your opinions on why X about raids should be Y instead. It's just a god damn name they gave the activity. Also: any kind of communication options in the game > having a group finding feature in the game > having matchmaking in the game. It's at the bottom of my list and it's only there in the first place because Destiny is not looking very promising in the field of communication / group finding (which, of course, can be done through the communication if it is there), but if nothing else is done, then it's the least they should do.
